For a quote to fix it. That's all I recommended.I wouldn't take it to bb or cc its already messed up enough
I think I got screwed on my install....
OrangeElement yea I know, if I was working when he brought it over i'd probably say 800 to redo everything. Most bb wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole. Just asking for a damage claim
I wouldn't tell them that, I'd ask them as if I expected them to re-install.OrangeElement yea I know, if I was working when he brought it over i'd probably say 800 to redo everything. Most bb wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole. Just asking for a damage claim
Anyway, I wasn't endorsing CC or BB at all. I know there are better places for installation and repair. I guess by what you are saying, however, is that they may have trouble finding someone willing to re-do the installation? Is that a worry, perhaps? I hadn't thought of that angle.
Thanks again for the imput.
Yea I think, redo installs are the hardest. God only knowshow badly he its messed up behind the dash. It'd be the same if someone had messed your dash up trying to rip something out of it. At our bb store we won't touch anything like that or that volvo for a type of redo fix. Some other of my friends that own their own shops might turn that away too just because of how damaged it is, but then again they might not. It really just depends on how frisky the installer is feeling. ![]()
I would go talk to the guy who messed it up and see how he intends to fix your car, if he isnt willing to fix it...I would suggest taking the d3 out, and having a dealership put it all back together and fix everything. Then talk to a different installer at a different shop before hand, make sure he is qualified, then have it put it again. Bring the receipt from the dealership and the other audio shop and tell him that he is going to pay for all of it or else you will see him in court.
But yea what orangeElement said though as well!
This kinda stuff makes my blood boil!
I am SURE that if you showed these photos to a judge in small claims court and told them what he charged, you would not only get your money back but damages for what I would call "destruction" of not only the D3, but your vehicle as well. You are entitled to damages in this one. If you can look like a victim who trusted the word of a an expert who screwed you, you're set.
Try these steps in order. You have to be furious to go after him. I would!
1. Get an estimate from a regular installer such as a sound shop or even CC or BB for your car. Get them to include the replacement of anything he damaged in the wiring of this brutal install.
2. Take the car to a body shop (find a dealer to make it expensive) and let them write you an estimate for the repair of the damage to your vehicle.
3. Find your receipts for the D3, and keep the original and copies with the above two estimates.
4. Contact the BBB (which does nothing but act as a mediator -always a step one before suing).
5. Contact the city he works in and find out if you can file a complaint with the business license commission. There's a chance that if he's this incompetent in the installation of a D3 that he may be stupid enough to be working without a license.
6. Check your receipt to see if he's charged you tax. If he has, report him to local city government. If he is collecting tax and is not a legit business with a tax id number, he's majorly boned!
7. File a small-claims court suit against him for not only everything material that you lost, but the number of hours you spent getting these estimates. Don't forget to also include the amount he charged for the install.
I'm thinking he's going to want to fix this before facing losing in court AND his business.
Wouldn't it be great to see him get shut down for being such a scumbag? Good luck, and let us know how this develops.
Well said, installthis06.
That really sucks, from what I can see you're looking at needing to replace the dash where the d3 is installed, along with the other pieces that are broken. That car, like I said before should have been a cake job using the correct parts . You woud have wound up with a nicely oem looking nav system.
I thought it would have been an easy job, what parts do I need?
Do I let him attempt to repair it, to be honest I'm afraid he's going to make it worse. When I dropped off the car I left detailed instructions along with a Chilton manual (so he could find the VSS wire) and it's like he ignored it all. He keeps brining up that there is a gyro in the D3 that prevents video from driving and I told him he needed to ground the mute wire, he acted surprised and I was like I told you that, it wasn't like other AVICs.
I'd take the car back. Make sure he repairs/replaces the damaged parts. Once that's done the mounting bracket you need is this one.

The harness to do the amp bypass is a 70-1120 i beleive. Would have to see the back of the stock radio to say for sure.
Pulled out the receipts to see what the part was that he ordered it was a VOVL-AL-1 possibly by Metra, I can't read his writing for $75. Receipt also says No Cash Refunds Store Credit Only, No Refunds on Labor.
Sorry to see what happened. I am in WV about 2 hours from Pittsburgh. I have installed 3 of these in Fords and Toyotas, along with a similar one in a Honda. I am not a shop. Do you need a replacement dash piece (the one that he glued the trim ring on)? Do you know if he cut the car plug off or if he used the adapter harnesses that most of us use from either Metra or Schoche? If he didnt hack into the wiring, and you get the double din kit and the wiring harnesses we need I and you dont mind the drive, I could help you do it. In general, they are pretty easy. You need to know how to get to the radio, make a patch wire with the Pioneer and Metra harnesses, find the VSS wire, reverse wire and use the fit kit and your done.
Jay
Yea or you could just go to the amp right there too..wire that up in 5minutes
I don't mean to sound all sentimental, but I think it's really great how many people have jumped into this thread and helped save the day.
I just had to say that. You guys make me proud! (wipes tear away)
they install these at circuit city. i had a friend have one done there they did a really nice jobFirst of all, I really feel bad for you. Nobody deserves an install that looks like that.
I'm also in Pittsburgh and installed the D3 myself in my Sorento. But I'm not good enough or know enough about your ride to fix you up.
However, you could call Quintex at 2311 Babcock Blvd Pittsburgh, PA 15237 412-939-3301. I was originally going to have them do my install before I decided to tackle it myself.
They've been in this kind of business for a long time and I would have easily trusted them. Let us know how it works out.

I hear you man! I love it when people get together for a cause to put things right.
What do you say, lets form a mob to go and lynch that a$$hole that did the install!!!
Now that you mention it, why DON'T we ban together and contact this schmo?I don't mean to sound all sentimental, but I think it's really great how many people have jumped into this thread and helped save the day.

Haha
"the words" Why don't you forward him the link to this thread and let him see for himself what support you have.
you got raped!
take his ass for court for damage to your property and neglect and try and have him buy you a new car for his stupidity and failure to preform as promised. Thing with court is since hes a business he HAS to get an attorney so its going to cost him a boat load, and you wont need a lawyer but you probably could get one and have the installer pay your court fees after you win. might take some time though.
i paid $100 to have mine installed and it looks flawless. good luck man
I know that not all Best Buy or Circuit City installers are the same, but I can say that the Circuit City that installed my Z2 did a good job. I mean, my Z2 looks like a factory-installed unit in my van. I need to post pics at some point.
A different Circuit City installed my husband's D2 in his F150, and his install is also seamless and clean.
You give too much credit to the original poster's installer when you say he should be working at Circuit City.
I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'.

I was thinking about printing out these pages and brining them to him to see that he didn't do a good job.
Yea that would make him feel like shit and want to fix it no charge hopefully!
I think that's a great idea!
On a side note, I might have a double din cage at work that might work for the d3. I'll check on it tomorrow and let ya know.
Batman to the rescue AGAIN for avic411.com!
Ha, I think I might have to have a toolbox sale, so I can dump some of the spare parts I have.
