Online Search is available as an option when searching for a destination. It appears as a new option to the right of "Address" and "Places", and allows you to search the internet for a POI not in the Nav's onboard database. And gas prices and something called "online search" which I'm not sure what it is or how to access it.
Also, it includes a navigation app for your phone with a very similar interface to the NEX. You can sync info between the phone and head unit, and it remembers where you parked your car. The thing is that it includes the entire nav database which bloats the app to 2-3 GB. If you have a phone with limited space this is a problem.
I suppose there are times when having a standalone nav app for you phone without having to download map info could be handy. But the consensus seems to be that this offers very little over Android Auto or Apple Car Play.

Interesting. I notice I have two gas price sources as well. The interface leaves little to be desired. I'm disappointed.

Is anyone having trouble downloading the 8100 firmware today (12/20/15)? I click on the link for the download and nothing happens.

You have to right click the link to download
I downloaded the Avic Sync app to my iPhone 6 running 9.2. I have also downloaded the 1.05 to a thumb drive, but haven't loaded it to the 8100 yet.
When I try to cruise around on the app on my phone, sitting in the house, the Yes/No information collecting prompt won't accept a yes or no and I can only see the bottom part of the paragraph explaining about the data collection.
Anyone else have an error there?
Hi all.
Can anyone advise. I have the avicsync app up and running on my phone. It's the Europe version. When I go to the Shop I have 'Map of Europe - Factory Package' and 'Map of Europe Latest Map Guarantee'. Now I've only installed the latter and the app seems to work OK. Only thing is the Latest Map says 'Licence Expired' and has a 'Renew' option. Press renew and I get error 101. Anyone know what that is all about - is it just a bug? Also, do we need to have both map packages installed on the phone? Both are quite large and eat a lot pf phone storage up? I'm currently downloading the Factory Package onto the phone so suppose I'll see what happens.

Same here, it's one of the many bugs in this long awaited app.
Another being an app crash when phone contact selected for destination.
All in all, the app is crap.
Nevermind, the app store states the display has to be standard and doesn't work with zoom at this time.

Oh, not just me then. After all the delays you'd think it would be a little better?
I subscribed to the HD traffic. It seems to work ok. Now I've got used to pioneers navigation it's not working too bad. Having android auto I've the option of Google maps too. There is a rumour that WAZE may become compatible with AA. Maybe others such as Tomtom Go or Route 66 may follow.
I am at a loss as well over the value of avicsync...[snip]...
I just want my iOS contacts to sync to AVICSYNC. I can live without the other stuff.
Do you need to open the AvicSync app on the iPhone every time to get into the car? That seems like a bit of an inconvenience.
If so, can you just leave it disconnected and only open the app when you want to sync a contact or transfer a router from the phone to the car?
Has anyone using the android avicsync app available in the US play store been able to connect to an 8100 using a Galaxy Note 5? I haven't been able to get it to work with either a Note Edge or the Note 5. I upgraded both the firmware and the Bluetooth but the avicsync doesn't see the phone,

If you leave the app open on your phone, then it will sync automatically to the head unit once you go into the Nav.

I wish it did sync automagically, well, I wish it would sync my contacts, so I can pick one and have NEX take me to the address.
But AVICSYNC completely #fails, saying "No valid address found". Complete garbage.

Yeah the address sync is a whole other issue. I like the search and faster HD traffic updates. Other than that, I won't be paying for a renewal once the free periods expire. I will update my maps to 2016 versions when those come available. I'm running 2013 Q2 right now.
Got it for my S6 edge today. Updated the firmware on my 8000NEX and also updated the bluetooth firmware. Re-paired my phone to the radio, changed the smartphone settings inside of Input/Output settings to "Others" and connection type "Wireless via BT". AVICSYNC just won't talk to the phone. I go to associate the phone, and it just brings me to the instruction screen for either associating via USB or Bluetooth. I fired the app up on my phone while paired/linked via bluetooth, and it just won't associate. What am I doing wrong here?
Try pushing on the car with the arrows on the bottom corner of the nav screen once your phone is paired with the units normal BT.
Out of nowhere it decided to work for me, not a clue what I did, maybe resetting the radio is all I needed to do. Haven't really tested it out though, especially since seeing that Pioneer put a price on their services (again) put a sour taste in my mouth
