New heads units were announced at CES. For the life of me I can't tell you what's different about them besides the model number. All specs seem to be the same, they don't support appradio 1, the non 8x00 units still use resistive displays. Yeah. I got no clue.

Link for the lazy.

OHHH I found something! The new NEX radios no longer support MirrorLink. How's that for an upgrade guys? Great stuff.

Maybe hardware that supports BT CarPlay & Android Auto?

Honestly if the headunits could do that they would put that front and center. A feature that great would be a huge deal. No one else has done it yet. I was expecting to see someone announce it at CES but neither the OEMs or the aftermarket makers have announced anything.

Hmm... What exactly is new in these models?  I'm still using the 8000-NEX and I don't see almost anything new?  (except for FLAC music playback?)

Posted Jan 06, 2016 · 15:46 UTC#7

Wow... so still no wireless carplay?

Posted Jan 06, 2016 · 15:53 UTC#8

Wireless Carplay was definitely my #1 request ... :(

FLAC is Present since the first NEX models.

No Mirrorlink and Most of the units are resistive as opposed to the the capacitive screens from the previous year.

The JBL unit looks very interesting.

There was no change to which units used what. The 8x00 has always been the only capacitive unit. There is also the Appradio 4 which will never get android auto because google requires a larger screen for it supposedly. If they made a new generation appradio with a 7 inch screen again it would probably get android auto. Regardless I've seen all the new radios from CES and my money is going to JBL. They made a real winner.

Looks like Aha Radio feature has been dropped on the X200 series NEXs.  So looks like they dropped a few features off these new units.

You can actually perform a side by side comparison on the http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/NEX web site, here is the link: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/portal/site/PUSA/template.PRODUCT_COMPARISON/?vgnextoid=62e2cd472a224410VgnVCM1000003367a8c0RCRD

Ironically nothing has changed except that AVIC-8200NEX has dropped support for MirroLink and Aha Radio App.

Still waiting for Pioneer to bring back the loudness, BBE and Compression/BMX Processing Effect.  Sure did love my old Pioneer DEH-P9800BT head unit

Seriously.  WTF?!

Something is going on behind the scenes on wireless carplay.

Apparently the protocol is there and built into iOS9, and is "available for for partners to use it".

But when Volkswagon planned to demo it at CES... Apple asked them not to.

Check it out...

huh, any chance I can remove Aha app from my dropdown sources? have no interest in another streaming service as I already have Pandora, though I am not willing to buy a new HU just to get it removed.

Yea, I'm looking to replace my AVIC-5000NEX with some other brand.

Not happy with Pioneer's laziness/aloofness, they don't get any more of my money.

Finally got an answer through a YouTube video. The big changes with this year are auto switching between android auto and CarPlay and more powerful idatalink support. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bGUeUL3-xKA

That's it? That's a year's work for Pioneer?

Hey they were drinking the sweet sweet money of no real competition for a year. I'm sure they thought no one was going to ever try.

As more and more factory radios incorporate Andriod Auto & CarPlay in their offering, that competiton will be stiffer. They need to stay 10-steps ahead of the factory curve for their flagship aftermarket units.

Looks like it also has the Gauge Support that most users have wanted too. Hopefully if the internals are the same we can get the cross firmware upgrade working on older units.

the additional idatalink features are actually huge for those of us that have the ability to use them, I was running a Kenwood dnx890hd in my 2011 Mustang with the Maestro rr module, and their MUS1 dash panel with integrated climate controls and OBDII data which was amazing, I just didnt like the Kenwood, so I stepped up to the 8100nex, but I lost the climate controls and OBDII data, which now the 8200 has, Im kinda pissed now! but I couldnt be happier with the 8100nex over the Kenwood, I just dont get all the bitching some members do, the Pioneer is far and away better than any Kenwood offerings imo
