the additional idatalink features are actually huge for those of us that have the ability to use them, I was running a Kenwood dnx890hd in my 2011 Mustang with the Maestro rr module, and their MUS1 dash panel with integrated climate controls and OBDII data which was amazing, I just didnt like the Kenwood, so I stepped up to the 8100nex, but I lost the climate controls and OBDII data, which now the 8200 has, Im kinda pissed now! but I couldnt be happier with the 8100nex over the Kenwood, I just dont get all the bitching some members do, the Pioneer is far and away better than any Kenwood offerings imo

I watched the CES demos of the original nex units. The 4000-8000. They were supposed to have these features from the start. Hell. The demos were nearly identical. This is not guaranteed until they launch and honestly there are better radios from Kenwood for that money that are where people's money should go if they want those features. Me? I don't give a damn about that. My car doesn't have that. I'm buying the JBL radio. 400 bucks for capacitive is nice for me.

Anybody know if the JBL has time alignment and decent EQ and all that?

We infuriatingly know very little about the JBL's OS. No one really filmed the thing in action at CES. Carplay radios did not get much coverage honestly.

Found a gold mine. FCC released all the info on the JBL unit months ago including a crude first draft of the manual. https://fccid.io/HFS-XE5

The big upgrade for Pioneers this year is full Maestro support, it's a very cool system and more and more vehicles are being added to support it via iData.   I played with the JBL unit quite a bit at CES, and it is nice. It is aimed at the entry consumer market with a basic audio feature set (as shown at the show at least).  Dual pre-outs, no SXM or HD Radio support.  It is a nice clean GUI and fast for what it is.  One feature dual phone families with like is it allows you to hot swap between Carplay and Android Auto - no need to toggle it in a menu.  Pioneer has better support for that this year, but still requires a manual change, so better but not perfect :)

The JBL is as small a screen as you can go and still use AA as it's been explained to me.  6.5" is the cutoff, that is why you don't see it on more 6" models from Pioneer, Kenwood etc - those are usually 6.1 or 6.2" sizes.

The Pioneers are still a way more advanced unit audio wise, interface wise etc.  And Kenwood is looking much much better this year too with their new GUI and screens.

Loosing mirror link is not a big deal in my market, support by phones was very poor and generally was more of a pain than a feature.. More the phone makers problem than Pioneer or anyone else IMO.

It's great to see more brands getting into the Carplay and interface market as that helps drive innovation and new features etc.

As for the capacitive touch screen - it's by far the coolest looking screen type IMO, but doesn't work with gloves well... I was very happy with the Pioneer Cap/Res screens we saw on the 4100-7100 last year and as far as I know they are the same this year for the NEX-X200 models.

Firmware update 1.11 for the AVIC-5000NEX fixed the screen responsiveness (or lack thereof) issue. :)

Honestly I downloaded the new 9.3 beta on my iPhone and the improvements to carplay leave me pretty happy with my old NEX-4000 radio. I would love to have a capacitive screen so I would have the better version of carplay, but it is nice that I can plug in both my phone and my girlfriend's iPhone at the same time and use my phone to navigate while her phone plays music. Pioneer keeps providing bug fixes and the radio definitely performs better than the day I got it. I don't know, I really like the JBL, but I don't know if I like it enough to go through the work of swapping radios.

Why can't you play music and navigate with one phone? When I use Carplsy, I use both Maps and Music at the same time. Not sure why you need a second phone.

I don't need it, but my girlfriend has her music and her playlists that she likes to listen to and she can change tracks on her phone without disturbing my maps.

This post is one reason I didn't hesitate to replace my AVIC-5000NEX with a new AVIC-6100NEX. No compelling reason to wait for the AVIC-6200NEX. And always a good reason to save a few hundred dollars. :)

Thanks for the info!

Firmware update completed, very, very pleased.

Does 9.3 beta solve CarPlay issue?

Does 9.3 beta solve CarPlay issue?

Which issues are you having?

Which issues are you having?

Many issue like no sound with music, crash ringtones, continuity crash after using carplay, but with iOS 9.2.1 i have solved many issues.

Finally got an answer through a YouTube video. The big changes with this year are auto switching between android auto and CarPlay and more powerful idatalink support. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bGUeUL3-xKA

Not sure if this was posted yet, but I just found this video that actually focuses on the new features on the 8200 specifically, and from what I can tell, this is all firmware/OS features. That means the 8100s should be able to updated to 8200 firmware! Whether that will happen or not remains to be seen.

If the hardware didn't change much between the 8100 and 8200, then I would imagine you could update to the features of the 8200

Unfortunatly I don't have a car that can use the iDatalink , but eventually I will... 8)

I really hope we can update to use the idatalink features, I had a Kenwood that offered this and loved the features, it was to be able to read CEL codes and clear them from the headunit, the real time tire pressure readings were nice too

I'd be happy just to be able to "power off" the unit.

The vehicle trouble codes would be worth upgrading for sure. Didn't know these headunits could do that.

Maybe it'll finally let you stream bluetooth audio without disconnecting iPods.

Im sorry but you guys are fools to think Pioneer will update the radio. I can tell by your post count you're new. They wont update the 8100 to have the 8200 features. Look at the 4000, its the exact same unit as the 4100 but pioneer wont update the 4000 to support Android Auto. Its an absolute joke. I dont feel bad for people who keep buying these for $700 or $1000. The company has obviously not made any advancements in the last few year and are just re-releasing products that are the same as the previous year. Open your eyes people

I had the Kenwood 990HD before this, and I"d say that half of the things it was supposed to do never worked or worked very poorly, so I"m used to manufacturers BS

Oddly enough Kenwood did come out with an update about 1 year after their last one to 'fix bugs'  although I didn't see much difference other than they took away one small feature and made a nice update for the volume control...

just as a side note... I've posted more here than you have...  8)
