1. Yep the mic is working now and Ducatiboy, I can now confirm that Navi-Heidi actually does understand Canadian. "Destination eh" works just as good as "Destination". .....That's a relieve, at least now I don't have to learn myself US. Offended?? Never!! :D
2.

My guess the mic isn't actually plugged in. I don't think the Z1 has any logic to detect the mic being plugged in as to whether it shows you the voice command icon or not, as far as I can tell it's always there.
Actually it does, if there is no mic, there is no icon on the screen. And maybe since "passat 05" is from Toronto the Z1 can't understand the commands with "eh?" tacked on to the end of each one. :)
Aaaahhh, you mean I shouldn't say "Destination eh"? :? Actually it turned out to be a bum Mic. I plugg
3. Installed my Z1 and everything is working great except for the voice command. The mic must be plugged in correctly because it gives me the Voice command icon. Touching it brings up the initial message but no matter which voice command I try it brings up the X-icon and then askes me to touch the voice command button (again). I've talked lauder, slower, closer to the mic.....nothing. Any ideas anyone?
Just added!!!!!this weekend on a 2006 Chrysler 300C
How is it working for you? What are the specs and where did you get it? I don't know where to physically put one without attracting too much attention and this one looks nice and small.
5. I'm surprised that apparently noone else believes that Pioneer should do much more to make these things less attractive for Skunks. If it was known that the Avic can NOT be put back in service without a pin number then that would go a long way. Sure we can put a dummy face plate over it and upgrade the alarm system (done all that) and perhaps even make the screen removable. BUT it is PIONEER who should be more protective of their customers. Steel a factory navi out of a VW or Audi and you're out of luck without a pin #. Making dummy faceplates for sale brings up one concern:
6.
Just take the hard-drive out. That'll stop 'em!
'Hope they never steal yours but I bet you'd take this issue a little more serious if they did. Total damage to the car was over $2,500 plus the navi. Insurance will go way up to Avic owners once more of these get stolen. The word needs to get back to Pioneer that more has to be done to discourage theft :!:
7. My Avic D1 was stolen and I've been doing all kinds of upgrades to my car to provide a major surprise to the next skunk breaking into it. Looking at the new Z1 however I realize why Pioneer is not interested in keeping a list of stolen sets: The serial numbers are on paper stickers that are very easy to peel off! These things are expensive and Pioneer could do a lot more to discourage theft. In addition to a permanent Serial number, each unit should have a unique pin # whithout which it would be impossible to activate it after an initial installation or after a reconnectio
8. I've been reading in a lot of threads here about reverse cameras used with the Z1. It would appear that there is a high frequency of cameras not working or not lasting. The Pioneer camera is named several times as not being reliable and other cameras crapp out as well. Price doesn't appear to be the determining factor. Question: :?: Is anyone having success with their camera installation? Can anyone recommend a camera? Has Pioneer come up with any answers?
9. Hmmm, I too had the MFD and later the MFD2 in this car. My memory is a little vague as to where I got the S-contact at that time though. At this point I just wanted to make sure there isn't a good reason wy the Z1 can't be installed in the 5.5. Once I get under the dash I'm sure things will fall into place. Just checked my installation manual from the D1 (stolen) and see that it too says that it can not be installed into a car without the ACC position on the Ignition lock. The D1 certainly worked well in my car and it looks like the Z1 will just be wired up the same way.
10. Thanks!! Looks like my S-contact is on the power plug going into the HU connector. I'll try that one. img courtesy of 'pencilneck'.
11. On page 5 of the Z1 Installation manual it says, quote: "This navigation system cannot be installed in a vehicle that does not have an ACC (accessory) position on the ingnition switch." My Passat Diesel doesn't have an 'ACC' position but I don't see why that should prevent the Z1 from being installed. Anyone know what that's all about? :?
12. You should provide more details. Which unit are you talking about? What did they do to it 7 month ago?
13. When I started the above thread I was logged in. After doing a preview and before I submitted it I was logged out and became a Guest once again. :?:
14. My D1 was stolen. Security is a big issue with these units since all one has to do is rip it out and install it in the next car or sell it on fleabay. My Blaupunkt nav needed a code to be entered after removing the connections to it. If lost, this code could only be re-aquired from VW Germany. Dongle sounds good but I fear that the scum will only do more damage taking the car apart looking for it. A flashing red LED between the buttons showing that it is alarmed would go a long way ...... if Pioneer were good enough to arm it through it's connections. I thin
15.
.......and to maybe consider using the following: http://www.usace.com/products.htm ........
Good idea, but my guess is that it's not clear enough for the windshield and if you only put it on the doors the scumbags will just try the windshield next. I've contacted Ace to see what they say.

D1 vs Z1 ?

Well if I put in a Z1 I will bolt it down so tight they'll need a chainsaw to pull it out. :D But first they'll have to get by the new alarm system that's going in. Anyone know how to install an automatic stun gun :?: :?:
17. My D1 had died after only one week. Pioneer, Canada would not honor the Warranty because it was purchased on ebay (brand new!!) even though, according to the manufacturing date, it was only 4 month's since manufacture. They took about 2 weeks to give an estimate and another couple of weeks to get it ready for pickup. Total charge would have been close to $500 but an appeal to the top got it reduced to $380. At first they refused to provide me with the replaced part but after going to the top again and pointing out that I'm the legal owner of that part, since I paid for the replace
18. We now have a category for listing stolen Navs. Hopefully not too many of you get to post there. :!: Thanks Jason.
19. Car was broken into in Toronto, Canada. Avic D1, Serial #EEMH016167UC was ripped out of my Passat dash. Nothing else was stolen. Total damage just under $4,000.

D1 vs Z1 ?

Having had 2 Blaupunkt VWnavis installed prior to the D1, there were two things that bothered me about the D1: 1. The total lag of theft protection. 2. The screen almost washed out totally in direct sunlight. The Blaupunt would be tied in to the alarm system AND was of no use to anyone without the code number, which was required to be entered when re-installing it. The Screen on the Blaupunkt had a far better, polarized coating for glare protection. Question: Has Pioneer done anything with the Z1 that would provide theft deterrent :?: Has the screen coati
