  1. I am happy to kick a few bucks your way for the bandwidth. PM me a paypal address.
  2. The night view mode through the menu just changes the background display on the Map from brown (day) to black. It doesn't cause the unit to dim. (though that can be done through the touch screen menu) Try actually turning on your headlights, and see if the unit dims. If not, then the installer didn't hook up the illumination wire properly. If it does, then the issue is simply that by design, the auto-on headlights don't power the illumination wire. So to get the dimming effect, you'll need to manually flip the headlight switch. And yes, the low AM/FM volume issue seems to be common. It
  3. There is no way to do it right. One option - if you want to spend the time - would be to generate video on your computer using the MP3 files in question, store them on DVD or ipod, then play them back as video files. It's a lot of work though.
  4. I have the 55 remote. I really don't see any point to it if you have the steering wheel control adapter. It doesn't do anything with the D3 beyond that. I guess if it was your only other-than-the-screen option, then maybe.....but still kinda pointless. Play, stop, source, mute, and volume work. If you are on a screen that allows for direct number entry, they work. But the enter button doesn't, so you still have to touch the screen when you are done inputing numbers. If you really want it, I'll ship you mine for $10. Someone posted elsewhere that the CD-SR1 remote works with the D3,
  5. Good to know. Have you tested to see if the bluetooth buttons work for answering and hanging up calls?
  6. That is correct. The D3 never fully shuts off if the ACC wire has power. The "Off" option just sets it to no source input, and the screen off just turns off the screen. The buttons stay lit, and the remote signal wire stays hot.
  7. Every other car stereo on the market can be turned off, without the need for a 3rd party inline power switch. So for them, the remote lead serves a purpose. But since you can't turn the D3 off, the "remote on" lead is pointless, you might as well wire the amp's remote lead straight to the ACC.
  8. What? Do you actually know what a remote wire is? Remote wire - sends a signal to the amp that the deck is off, thus turning the amp off. But the D3 can't be shut off, and when in screen off or "off" mode, the remote wire is still hot.
  9. Posting just to follow this thread. I can't figure out why they bothered to put the "remote" wire lead on it, since you can't actually turn the deck off. (and thus the remote wire is useless)
  10. Thats about all that works on the 55 remote. The majority of the buttons are useless, it's more like a universal Pioneer remote. I found that the only thing it could do that my steering wheel controls didn't, was enter numbers. But then the enter button doesn't work, so you still have to touch the screen to continue.
  11. I have one in my 3000GT. All of the buttons work fine.
  12. I picked up the CDR55, its a no go. Pretty useless as a remote in fact, it doesn't do anything my steering wheel controls don't already do. (volume, input, mute, track+/-, that is it)
  13. As discussed many times, thieves aren't fooled by that. If anything the "oh look something important enough to cover up" is MORE tempting than seeing the unit itself. In my case I don't care so much about the stereo. I'm more concerned with the damage they'd do breaking into the car and ripping it out. Getting a piece of replacement trim for my car took 6 weeks to order from Japan, I can't imagine having to make major repairs.
  14. Here is mine. I gutted the factory head unit after it shorted out. Had to redrill the mounts to drop the D3 a little further in, then this dummy cover slides in. I put a small pull tab on the left for easy removal. The biggest advantage to this setup is that the important info shows through the factory faceplate, as you can see from the pictures. And since I have the steering wheel controls, the only thing I really need to open it up for (aside from videos) is to answer/hang up phone calls. Still trying to find a work around for that.
  15. I have the D3, and the steering wheel controller. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ARIP2zlyPy ... i=127SWIPS I've also created a false cover for it, which looks like a factory stereo. And since I can control the ipod through the steering wheel controls, there isn't much of a problem just leaving the cover on all the time. (playlist info shines through the fake cover) The problem I'm running into is how to take/hang up phone calls. I haven't found any way to program the steering wheel unit to the Acept/HangUp buttons. I'd be willing to go so far as buying the official wired remote for it, but the
  16. Well I went looking this morning, but their site doesn't have a map display to check. Perhaps their current maps are displayed somewhere else? Mapquest has the new road, Yahoo and Google do not. I'm not holding out much hope on tele-atlas. But even if it just marked some of the roads that were removed when construction began, it would be helpful.
  17. Then I guess the next question is, are the maps on the N4 disc newer than the stock D3 disc?
  18. Has there been any kind of formula for releasing updated map discs? I know the D3 is still fairly new, but the maps (atleast for Austin) seem to have been created atleast 18 months ago. I know there is going to be a lag on the map contents as far as new material, but does anyone know how long it is? Example.....a road that was completed in May 2007 would show up on.....maybe the 08 discs? And is there a standard release time on the new discs, perhaps a certain month of the year they release them? I assume there is no way to add new roads to the existing disc. My frustration comes from
  19. The D3 has great maps (though it's time for an updated map disc, too many new roads here in Austin that aren't in it) BUT....you have to have the DVD Map disc in the unit to get the close up detail. I think 1mile is the furthest you can zoom in without it, but with it you can go down to .1 mile.
  20. Does anyone know the name of the file (assuming its even loaded off the DVD) for the default cell phone ring? My phone doesn't support push, so I can't send it my own ring tone. And I hate the default ringer. I'd like to replace the default on a custom map DVD, if possible.
  21. I got rid of my Ocean before I bought the D3, but anytime I've had trouble connecting a phone, the cure has been to initiate the bluetooth search from the Pioneer, rather than the phone. That said, my Ocean didn't support Object Push, so even when you get the handsfree working, you won't be able to push contacts (or caller ID) to the unit. Unless they've enabled the feature since I sent mine back anyway.
  22. The mistake most people make is trying to copy the files from the DVD, then building a new ISO. It won't work. You have to actually rip the disk to ISO, then edit the iso itself, rather than building a new one. I used DVD Decrypter and Magic ISO to create mine, which worked just fine.
  23. I had the exact same problem when I first installed mine, and this was the cause. I matched up the colors on the cable and the back of the unit, (blue cable tip, blue jack) which is not correct. Make sure the cable is in the OUT jack, and I bet it will fix the problem.
  24. I would have been satisfied with FM quality, I don't even think it touches that.
