  1. They should offer a fake "POS stereo" dummy that can be kept in the glove box and snapped in place when you leave your car. Much nicer than having to carry around your screen. (Who does this?!)
  2. A standard response, certainly. Note that the person or persons responsible for managing a particular product or service's Facebook page or twitter feed, official or not, is usually one of the last to actually know anything. Their job is to "make noise."
  3. I think that once CarPlay has gone through its teething phase, they'll start qualifying more 3rd-party apps like Waze, Pandora, rdio, etcetera -- pretty much anything that's currently available for iOS could be qualified, assuming it makes sense within the context of CarPlay...that it meets with CarPlay's objectives (maximized in-car efficiency and safety).
  4. CarPlay is an Apple technology, for iPhones only.
  5. I like the idea of both CarPlay and Android Auto for the reason that they essentially turn the head units into dumb terminals, which, quite frankly, makes the most sense, since what you want is a solid computing platform that can run the apps you need and manage their interoperability, making for a smooth(ish?) user experience. That next gen units like pioneer's nex have strong feature sets outside of CarPlay and Android Auto is just a nice bonus.
  6. Just do some googleing on mirrorlink and the names of your phones. Also call pioneer and samsung and htc. I've seen the info floating about but have no references on hand.
  7. I don't have an Android phone, so I won't be of much help; however, both of your phones -- yours and your wife's -- are listed as MirrorLink compatible, so it's just a matter of connecting them to the stereo with the right USB cable (call Pioneer or Samsung and HTC?) and downloading the MirrorLink app from the Google Play store for each phone. Beyond this, it should just be a matter of starting the MirrorLink app on the phones while they're connected, and selecting MirrorLink on your Pioneer unit. YouTube has a few videos showing off the MirrorLink functionality. Check them out.
  8. Ahhh... Well, there you go, mnsweeps. If I had a MirrorLink compatible Android phone, I'd certainly go that route. I wouldn't have a bunch of "apps," but at least I'd get some useful functionality out of new stereo.
  9. Hmmm... I wonder how it supports MirrorLink...
  10. I would assume because the 4000 has no navigation built in.
  11. According to Pioneer's website, the 5000NEX will work with MirrorLink, with is presumably compatible with both of your phones.
  12. Based on the little I've used it, I hate it too. Giving credit to Pioneer, though, they've been trying to make two different worlds work together, with (likely) no support from Apple (until now) or Google (until recently). I'm glad both companies have gotten involved. Both look like VERY good first-stab solutions. It should only get better from here.
  13. You're quite welcome, Sir! Rock and roll! \m/
  14. I did. Had it out of my system a long time ago. I was just joking around with the over-the-top "WHAAAAHHH..." post. (Thought that would have been obvious.) And I don't work for Best Buy. LOL I work as a product/program manager for a company who designs and markets electronic goods for the consumer market. I used to work very closely with companies like Intel, AMD, NVIDIA, Samsung, etc. -- it was my job to set product requirements, manage cross-functional teams, mitigate risk, manage schedules, and integrate the aforementioned products into finished goods (PCs, in a past life). We catered
  15. WHAAAAAHHH... I WANT! GIMME! LOL
  16. Just the obnoxious, entitled ones. I'll stop. LOL We should all try to get along on here, anyway. Kumbaya, brother!
  17. Exactly. You WANT. Because you feel like you're entitled to it (information). Guess what? You're not. I know. It hurts. But hey...you bought an iPhone. Go tell Apple that you demand a release date for iOS...because you WANT it. Please...
  18. I agree that I was out of place regarding the features that Pioneer DID announce with the NEX units and did NOT deliver on. Do customers have the right to at least know that these shortfalls have been acknowledged? Yes. Does Pioneer need to commit to fixing broken features or releasing announced features? Absolutely. Regarding CarPlay, however, which is what the original whining was all about...Neither Pioneer nor Apple owes anyone anything in terms of product development. This kind of information is largely held by most companies -- car companies, consumer electronics companies, pick-an-i
  19. "I knew full well that the update would be released early summer. And since then, no other information has been forthcoming, even though it is early summer. Wanting an update of that basic information is hardly a feeling of entitlement." Do you have a "right" to be informed about the progress of, say, the fix for a "broken" feature or the release date of a promised feature that was never released? Absolutely. We're all very excited about and chomping at the bit for CarPlay, but Pioneer owes you nothing. Zero. Nada. Zilch. Just about EVERY "big boy" company has a policy of not divulging int
  20. Fair point about the other features. I feel my point about CarPlay still stands, though: While I can understand people's frustrations about Pioneer's marketing tactics, for people to get all holier than thou and demanding about CarPlay dates -- as if either Pioneer or Apple owes them something -- is ridiculous and, yes, "entitled." Does Pioneer need to fix/release features promised at launch? Absolutely. Is their marketing obnoxious? Sure... Did they announce or launch NEX units with CarPlay as a feature? No. Have they missed their launch window? No. (The first day of summer was June 21st
  21. Wow... I work as a product manager for a CE company, and I feel like telling consumers like you to have a little respect for the hard-working people at companies like Pioneer and Apple (people just like me...and perhaps you), and stop acting like such an entitled @ss. If you bought a NEX HU in anticipation of CarPlay, then you knew it would be released "early summer." If you didn't, then you should have done a little more basic research. The NEX receivers were never launched with CarPlay as a feature -- not even as a future feature. CarPlay was announced in partnership with Apple
  22. Or they could just be working the social marketing machine...building hype to a fever pitch prior to release. Personally, I don't really see anything back-handish about their tweet. If you wanted to read into it -- which you probably are because, like me and everyone else, you're thinking, "C'MOOOON, Apple!!!" -- I can see how one might perceive it that way.
  23. Agreed. The saving grace to me is that Apple like to have SUPER tight controls on their technology and over companies who partner with them on branded technology they've developed in-house. Some companies just know how to deliver a great user experience much better than others.
