1. Yeah, I updated the CDDB before burning anything. :? I had the problem again. This time I was trying to rip the soundtrack to Les Miserables. The error message was something along the lines of "Unable to determine the correct track due to multiple entries in the database." That's not the exact verbage, but pretty much what the error message said. Grr.
 2. I ripped about 5 CDs yesterday and then put my "Soundgarden - Superunknown" CD into the Z1 and saw a quick (less than 3 seconds) error message containing the words "duplicate album" or something to that effect. At that point, I only had 5 CDs in, and none were Soundgarden. It started ripping, but titled the album/tracks as date/time rather than what should be there. Has anyone had this problem? How can I fix it? What about deleting the song(s) or albums from the library? Can that be done too? Thanks.
 3. This post kind of died. I'm interested in faking something. I liked the ABS slab with post-it notes. Where can I buy plain old ABS slabs like that?
 4. So far, I like what I see. The navi system tried to take me the long way from my home to the interstate, but it's still learning, and my house is built in an uber-new section of town, so according to the map, I'm about 1/2 mile off the nearest road. The sound dynamics are awesome. I have an '06 Ford Expedition with the Audiophile sound system. Other than an amplified OEM HU with in-dash CD changer and powered subwoofer, I'm not sure what that means exactly (upgraded speakers? doubtful.)... but the new EQ settings on the Z1 and power sent to my speakers sounds like night and day compa
 5.
This sounds to me like a programming issue. The damned thing is confusing! IIRC, you need to actually do something in the programming to skip an operation and get to the one you want. You can't just program your buttons arbitrarily. I know this sounds confusing...and you may be doing it correctly, but I had similar issues with mine until I realized I was doing it wrong and not bypassing the features I didn't want to use.
Yeah, when I had the dash apart during the install, I programmed, tested, re-programmed, and tested the remote unit. I realized after
 6. ursijam: I haven't yet tried the rear seat entertainment center. From what another poster said, it gets its power from the OEM HU, which leads me to believe that it won't work. I'm on the road right now, with no DVDs, but I'll give it a shot on Friday when I get back in town and give you a heads up. 03Aviator: I programmed the MEM button to do what it did with the OEM unit. But your suggestion (mute) sounds good. I'm still having the same (intermittent) issue with only my "source" button working and the MEM, VOL UP, and VOL DN buttons not working. I'm not sure what's
 7. Here they are. Nothing too fancy. The mounting bracket from Crutchfield fit perfectly. There is a Bluetooth unit velcroed under the dashboard, a XM Radio/NavTraffic unit (temporarily) in the glovebox, and the SWI-PS (is that the right name?) adapter stuffed in the dash also. First picture is "before," second picture is "during," and third picture is "after." In retrospect, I think I'll pay someone to do this for me next time... or pick a cooler month in which to perform the install. I can't thank DucatiBoy and the other members of this site enough for support and help.
 8. Well, it took a little longer than I expected (about 6 hours) due to unforseen technical problems. Everything's in, although not where it's going to be permanently. I still need to find a permanent place for the XM Radio/NavTraffic unit (currently residing in the small and heretofore useless glove box), but all pieces appear to be working fine. I haven't tried pairing my phone (Nokia 6682) with the unit yet, but we'll see tonight. My knuckles are a bit busted, and my fingertips are a little raw from all the wire twisting and the plugging and unplugging of the units, so this thing better be
 9.
I'm guessing on #1, but based on what I've read in the past you don't hook it up to anything. As for the reverse signal, if you don't have a camera and have no intention of getting one, then don't bother hooking it up.
That's what I thought. I don't have intentions of getting one. The manual (of course) said to connect it all of the time because the GPS unit would not be able to tell if I am moving backwards when I'm in reverse if I don't connect it. But I travel such short distances in reverse, I figure that the GPS will correct itself once I'm going
 10. I'm a little slow, and so is the install progress ;) Questions: 1) I'm installing DucatiBoy's flasher circuit, so I will not connect the parking brake wire to anything. Correct? 2) If I'm not going to use a reverse camera, do I still need to connect the "reverse gear signal input"? Thanks. I must have ridden the short bus!
 11.
Yes to make it like your oem, the music note would be programmed to "source" and the MEM button would be preset up. This will work with AM/FM and sat radio. Personally, I have the name buttons on my Lincoln Aviator, I programmed the "Media" button (my version of your music note) to track up/seek up. I don't switch sources too often and track up is much more used in my vehicle.
Thanks DucatiBoy. So the "source" toggle would be between FM1, FM2, AM, CD, and Nav (or in whatever order they cycle through)? I wasn't sure if the HUs were essentially the sam
 12. I received the AVIC-Z1, SWI-PS, GEX-P10XMT, ND-BT1, and DucatiBoy's Z1-FC as of this afternoon. This evening, I removed the dashboard and OEM unit and will begin bright and early tomorrow morning (in Houston, in an un-air-conditioned garage!) with the install. I hope to be done by 2 or 3pm, but that may be too optimistic. We'll see. I'm taking pictures along the way. When I'm done, I'll post them here if possible. I have a question that is Ford/Z1-specific, and hopefully someone out there can help me. Since I bought the SWI-PS, I'm going to have to program and/or skip buttons on my
 13.
I can be a little technology challanged compared to others, but this is the way I look at this: What you call an mp3 is a data file. Period. Just like a Word document. The fact that the program you use to "open" it creates music is meaningless...it's still a data file. The Z1 hard drive will not accept these file extensions and even if you could, the software program to process these files is incapable of reading them from the hard drive....at this time. Work is in progress. Now, when you convert the mp3 data file to a music (audio) file, it no longer has the
 14.
The Z1 will play mp3 cd's in the cd drive but will NOT transfer the MP3's to the hard drive. The Z1 will play audio cd's (wether you buy them or you make them at home by transfering your MP3's into an audio CD (generally 74 minutes of music...music, not data) and will rip them to the hard drive automatically. The Z1 will NOT take your MP3 (data) CD's and transfer them to the hard drive. So, basically, the iTunes library and MP3 archive of thousands of hours of music is useless to the Z1 until you make those MP3's and AAC's into music and make audio CD's out o
 15. AudioVideo Dimension (http://www.audiovideodimension.com) has them for about $95. Shipping isn't free. The company is in Austin, TX, but ships from a NY warehouse. I had mine sent 2d day air (free upgrade due to communication error with customer service), so it should arrive tomorrow. I'll let you know if it shows up, and in what condition it's in (the customer service guy was friendly and apologetic). I tend to be a trusty fellow. We'll see how these guys treat me. :!:
 16.
I've always felt there was a way to do this. It might involve the use of some creative thinking when it comes to wiring...and you need to ensure you are using the correct voltages to control the rear unit...but I think it can be done. I have a friend who bought a factory rear dvd unit out of a wrecked Aviator and installed it in his Aviator with an aftermarket head unit. It worked perfect. But he said he had to think about it to get it to work right...and he's very good with this sort of stuff. Also, the 03 Aviator should be CAN. I would be surprised if the 03 Exp
 17.
Well, kinda sorta, but you're a little fuzzy around the edges. If I understand you correctly what you're calling a "music mp3" is not an mp3, it is an uncompressed PCM file which has 2 channels (stereo) and is recorded at 44hz (a sample is taken 44 times a second) at a 16-bit depth (each sample can represent 65,536 different values). That kind of CD is the kind you buy in a store or burned from as an "audio" cd. It can be put in any CD player and it will work (some players do have problems with
I just chatted with Crutchfield, and a second time, was assured that the OEM DVD functionality would not be lost (and that I didn't need to perform extra wiring) when I install the Z1. We'll see what happens. I'm not counting on it, because I'm sure Crutchfield will say whatever to make the sale, but we'll see what happens.
Like I mentioned before...my 2003 Explorer rear DVD works with the headphones and I'm, able to watch a separate DVD on the Avic-z1 with sound through the speakers. I don't know what they did to do that, but my works the way I want and I

By making a safety measure, no matter how easily bypassed (thanks, DucatiBoy!), Pioneer has thus covered its ass.
Well yah, but what about my ass? I want to cover it as well. I'm happy to help all you guys out with this little circuit and all but I want to cover my ass as well. I'm hoping the disclaimer I ship with each one is enough.
Well, DucatiBoy, like any potentially dangerous product (and that term is used broadly, as most people wouldn't consider a navigation sys

Essentially, when I make a CD (CD-R) with data, I can fit up to about 200 data files (MP3s
 21. In NJ, it is illegal to have motion video playing on a screen in view of the driver. I had a small monitor that was no longer hooked up in my last truck and I couldnt even pass inspection until I removed the screen. They gave me a red rejected sticker and a month or two grace period to remove it. I dont think, however, that it is illegal to have the navigation features unlocked; it's just a liability issue that no one wants to take responsibility for. Thank the lawyers and the greedy jackasses that take no responsibility for their own actions.
Don't blame the lawyers, dude

I don't remember what it was exactly that is required to do. I'll check at work tomorrow and see if I still have it laying around in my box.
That's good news. I would really appreciate the information, if you still have it. I'm planning on starting the install process Friday evening and completing it Saturday morning/afternoon. Thanks for your offer to help. If you can't find it, but you might know where I c
 25. Maybe I am misunderstanding your post, brachoza, but it sounds like you're telling me that I cannot use a factory DVD player without the OEM radio, but niteone seemed to contradict that. I'll keep my fingers crossed when I install mine. I guess as a last resort, after I install it myself, I could have a professional installer finish the wiring for me.
