  1. I hope that this isn't answered already and I'm just not able to find the thread... Anyway; I've downloaded the updater from Pioneer and followed their instructions to the T. FOUR times followed their instructions. Meaning, I've burned a CD fourt different times using everything from Windows 7 default settings to three different burners (Roxio, Imgburn, and B's Gold). Using two different computers. All that happens when I put the disk in the AVIC is that it says CD inserted. Then it just sits there and looks stupid at me. For up to an hour I left it just sitting there. Nada.
  2. Silverdj: I don't want to persuade you or taut you off the iPod adaptor. But, I wanted you to know that the adaptor you seek is a simple user interface for the head unit's screen. That is to say, there is only two benefits that I realized when I installed it in my N3; heads up display (I don't have to fumble with the iPod while driving), and it charges the battery on the iPod while in use. That said, the menus displayed are somewhat frustrating because it doesn't do a good job at navigating your way around the iPod. So, you may consider the alternate method of getting a RCA audio (red a
  3. Does the display return to normal if you use a hair dryer on it? To warm it to 'normal' operating temperture? This will tell us if it's the head unit, or the controller that is the source of the problem.
  4. Thanks WastedTime2525 That was EXACTLY what was wrong. Posting follow up here in case future searches will solve your problem also. Symptoms: Map moved like it was tracking, but not in correct actual location. Checking hardware settings>connection reveals "GPS antenna faulty, check with service". I was lucky enough to have a car stereo store nearby that happened to have Pioneer antenna in the spare parts bin and after plugging it in and the displayed worked as it should, paid for the antenna and finished the install. 5. Thank you for that. I was hoping. The antenna wire runs in between the soft rubber and the door, and most likely the door opened and closed one to many times. I'll try the new antenna before I get out the pry bars. 'c'
  6. I parked in an underground parking yesterday. Of course, the GPS signal was lost. Got outside of the parking and the map was moving, but soon after the little arrow was no longer on a street. Before long, it's way off from my actual location, but still trying to do something like dead reckoning. Checking the hardware setup, it says the antenna is disconnected. So, before I start pulling everything apart only to find that it needed a reboot... have any of you seen this before? Thanks 'c'
  7. I installed a Z3 in July in a brand new car. The dealer tells me that the natural parasitic drain on this car is appx 10-12mA. However, after sitting for only four days, the battery didn't have enough CCA to turn over the engine. The dealer claims my Avic is pulling over 80 mA's and therefore is the problem. Q. My eight year old Jeep can hold a charge for over a week and start the engine which has the N3 installed. What is the mA current draw from the Z3? The specs don't show it, threads don't show it, and searches don't' reveal it. Or, can it be installed using the incorre
  8. I asked this question about four months ago and didn't get a single idea. So... maybe there are some fresh minds out here that might be able to help with my problem. AVIC-Z3 installed in new car equiped with OnStar in July, anytime I use the OnStar service, including the OnStar mobile phone, the AVIC completely powers off. As soon as the OnStar is done, the AVIC powers on automatically. Not a terrible thing, but very annoying if I'm trying to use the navigation while talking on/with OnStar. Any thoughts? thanks 'c'
  9. This may or may not help, but thought it at least worth a look. Today, XM sent email to me that has an attached link: http://www.xmradio.com/onxm/lineup.xmc where you can view the "All New Channel Lineup". I don't wander too much around the XM channels, perhaps this new feed did something to your settings? Just a guess
  10. Right on. In case anyone else has this issue, or is installing in a GM vehicle, this the color code direct from the professional manual: Pin 5 0.35 BN/WH Park Lamp Switch ON signal Pin 15 0.35 WH Headlamp Switch Headlamps ON signal I'm going to share this info with my installer and he said he will fix at no charge. Thanks garrettoomey, appreciate the excellent advice. 'c'
  11. If you havn't had the time to check the illum connection, you might want to try this first. Change the setting from 'automatic' to 'day'. Then, turn on your headlights. If the unit does not dim, then check the dim level. If the dim level is set to low with the headlights 'on' and the unit still does not dim - there is an open circuit to the illum connection. 'c'
  12. I searched, and couldn't find my problem here, so maybe it's unique? Z3 installed new by professionals in July in 2008 Pontiac Solstice. Everything works great, including adequate volume level for BT phone connection. For the first time since installed, I did some night driving over the weekend. Turning headlights on (AVIC in "Day" mode) and the screen performs the expected dimming to accommodate the darken cabin. However, come to a dark place on the road and turn on the headlight high beams, the AVIC screen returns to full daytime brightness. Acts just as if I turned 'off' the head
  13. I searched and can't seem to find the method. If there already is a thread, or sticky please push in that direction New to the Z3, but very old with AVIC (started with N1). I didn't get the iPod connection with the Z3 because I understood that we can load our music direct to the HDD. What I didn't know was that the only way I can find to do this is to play each CD -real time- and it records to the library. Yawn... is there a way to either BT connect, or direct connect iPod, or other means to upload about 20 Megs of MP3 music? Or, should I simply get the iPod adaptor? Thanks
  14. Thanks for the fast reply. Unfortunately, I don't have a clue. This was a professional install. He did a really great job (including the hack) but I can't speak to the interface. I directly asked him about why it shuts off when pressing OnStar and he said "that's because it's an OnStar issue". I can't think that to be true, but then again... this tech-no world anything is possible. 'c'
