1. You will need a mounting kit to get a perfect fit & it will appear factory. No mods are necessaary, I just did one and it looks perfect. I cannot remember the VSS wire info, but it can be found on www.the12volt.com. Nothing unusual because it is a diesel. The reverse wire is easy too, just go back to the backup lights and splice into the wire that goes to 12 volts when put in reverse. Good luck. Jeff
2. I usually install them outside the vehicles. Have never had a problem. However I just installed the latest one inside the car (convertible) in the dash. I put it just under the plastic dash, with no metal above it and all is well. In another convertible I installed it on the deck lid just infront of the 3rd brake light. Had plenty of cable. Outside is best for reception, but it works just fine inside so long as you avoid putting it under metal (although I've seen that done and it seems to work even then, but try to avoid it).
3. Can someone please post the background that people are using here. I would like to use it but cannot find it on the web.
4. Exact same thing happened to me. I bought from a power seller too(hifiaudioonline). I just sent the unit back to them for an exchange. It was a refurbished unit. Might be something to look out for.
5. I really do have this problem I just bought a D1 installed it and it tells me to insert the correct disc. I installed it in the lower DVD slot, tried east and west discs. I have version 1.2. I did the reset. Any suggestions?
