#1 reason? Slow to navigate through Artists, Albums, etc. The integration just isn't quick. I've dealt with it for over a year now though.. #2? I have this 40GB available Library space on my Z1, why not invest a few blank CD-R's and see if it works any better. I anticipate the listing of Albums and Artists to go many times faster than the iPod, but I haven't put enough time in. This is kind of a proof of concept for me. It may be that the iPod is my only real choice.

So I upgraded from the Z1 to Z2 and went to a 60GB (40GB music). I have about 30GB of music in iTunes. I went in to my "My Music" folder, found an artist, then an album. I went in to Nero to create a new music CD. I dragged all the songs in and Nero read the ID3 tags. I can see Artist and Song Name. So I burn the CD and put it in my Z1. My question is this: Is this really the best approach? The album didn't populate in the library info. So do I have to go back and modify each song and tweak the album? This really is a pain. I thought I'd use my Library instead of my iPod, but

I want to change the bezel i have in my Z1. I need the plastic piece from Pioneer ADT-VA133 unit. I dont need the whole mounting kit as i already have the unit mounted. Can I somehow get that plastic little bezel piece which makes it expand out to fit inside of the Metra 99-9102?

It is a completely separate partition.

I was able to update from Z1 to Z2 using the 9GB ISO I downloaded from the newsgroups perfectly on my first try. I did however use a brand new 60GB Toshiba drive that was listed on here as no resetting. I grew the music partition to near 40GB.

I am at work right now so I don't have access to my uncompressed image at home... Still I ran QuickPar using the .PAR files included with the Z2 Update file. If it comes back 100% perfect, then you got it. I would strongly recommend you run the check against the .RAR files before you uncompress and use that file.

There are ways around the artist/album thing, if you want to tweak things. Like you could start combining stuff together, etc. Honestly I am just too damn lazy and want it to be easy. The 60GB with about 50GB free space should give you more than you need to fill up those artist/album limitations. Maybe someday Pioneer or someone else will know how to bypass that and increase them. Then at that point I think we'd look to a bigger drive. IF the bigger drive worked without the restarts AND was faster then I would say that is the way to go, but if it has the same specs, I personally woul

IMHO chances are good that drive will work. Still, your limitations of the Z1/Z2 will hold you back with the what... 400 artists, 1000 albums? I forget... So with 110GB extra, what will you do with it? Also the possibility you'll drop the $70 bucks and find out it won't work. Good luck.

PATA and SATA are completely different You would probably need to a) find another computer that is older and supports PATA possibly buy a PATA controller card, install it in your new computer. I honestly don't know how well this would work, but it just might... Good luck.

Anyone concerned about going to all the effort for only 10GB why don't you go form 30GB to 60GB with the Toshiba MK6034GAX

The other bypass is so easy. just do it.

WHEW! FINALLY! It was near the very end of the headers. 11.6 - 12.7 days old it says. I am grabbing all the files now... It is posted as "Pioneer AVIC Z2 Bypassed HDD Image" for all your FYI.
-
In the last few minutes, the "Z2BypassUpdate.part[x]" just appeared. That stuff is 17.2 days old. Still waiting to finish... hopefully it shows up.

Hrmmm.. giganews is the worlds largest usenet provider and provides 200+ days of retention. I am still getting the headers for alt.binaries.test for a few hours. 19.7 million headers I searched for "avic" and "z2"

At this point, I believe any Toshiba drive will work. There's definately a HDD type check in the firmware to ensure only Toshiba drives are used. Some of you guys have access to test all these drives, I don't. So if I saw there was a 5400 80GB toshiba with exactly the same specs as the others, I wouldn't want to take the risk in purchasing it. I really rely on you guys testing them, and I *do* appreciate it. I think I am going to go the route of getting a new drive, restoring the Z2 image to it, rather then unlocking my 30gb and then restoring the Z2... Now I just need to find

As posted above, the MK6034GAX looks to have had success too....

Just saw this post stryk3r. Thanks for the help! I have a Giganews account and went and checked on alt.binaries.avic.fileshare and there were no files there. No headers even actually... alt.binaries.test has millions of headers so I let them download for what seemed like a few hours. I searched for "avic" and "z1" and "z2" and couldnt find a thing. help?

I've honestly never burned a RW disc in my life. I always have bought CD-R and just throw them away. I didn't know the process included having to 'erase' them. "F" that. I agree with the spindle. I suppose one issue I have is that all my music is in iTunes. While I can browse the folder structure (../Artist/Album/Song.mp3) I don't have the original CD's. So this might not work perfectly then, because GraceNote won't know about my songs/artists/etc. , right? Hrmmm

I currently don't use ANY of my music partition. However, I have in the past put a CD on it and seen how much more responsive it is over the iPod interface. So maybe with more space I might invest in some CD-RW and just burn a ton of music. With that said, the other reasons I would consider upgrading are... 1. I want to do the Z1 -> Z2 image update. It would be nice to keep the original Z1 hard-disk. I am not sure if it is even possible to put it back in the Z1 after it becomes a Z2 though. 2. Speed! The stock drive is 4200rpm right? So I would love to see faster response on the

Today my Z1 would power on, it would show the Pioneer logo, i had XM sound, but it wouldnt get out of that screen and go to the nav. I drove for 20 minutes until my car was cool inside. (indicated 101 when i got IN the car, then 30 seconds later 91 outside temp). As I was driving down the street (nobody around) killed the car for about 5 seconds, turned it on and kept driving. Nav powered up fine. Temperature?

How do you go about making sure nobody steals your license plate frame? I guess you just have to hope nobody does. Maybe some special screws might deter the novice.

I never liked how the double-din kits for B6 A4's had to have that inside bezel. It's like 2 seperate pieces. Hrmm

$ always plays a big part. I'm not living in LA but I can say that for San Diego you can find 1 beds for like $650 to $3000 depending on where you're looking... sucks.
