  1. I agree! duplicate info! at least they could show the Playlist name or type (Genre, Artists...) is the Now Playing window! I dont understand why they did not do it: the info is available from the IPOD, so why not. Hopefully the S/W update will take care of that. I'm dreaming of the having the actual Artwork of the songs showing in the "Now Playing" window, that would be perfect. But that might be too much to ask as even the IPOD docking station for home stereo/TV dont display the artwork...
  2. Slick 6MT, Thanks for the explanation... My mistake, only 27 Genres (A-Z and #) as you said... If you never use the "real" Genre, then I guess it makes sens... But you still have to go thru Genres, then select lest's say "G" and then browse thru the artist names starting with G... The more artists you have the more sens it makes... I'd say with 100 or so different Artists, it's not worth it and one might has well use the existing "Artists" section. With 200+ artists like you have, then yes, this method is the best. Thanks! -Matt
  3. plus this means the actual genre of the song (Rock, Alternative , Metal, Classical...) is overwritten by the Artist name...so u basically lose the Genre information... Am I missing sthg here? thx
  4. i guess using the Genres method works but it means creating as many Genres as Artists...that kind of screw up you IPOD...sorting by genre on the ITUNES or IPOD itself will shows tons of Genres which are not Genre but Artists...
  5. it seems that the only way to list the Artist name instead of Songs while browsing is to use the "Artists" section of the BROWSE fucntion. whatever playlist you create on ur IPOD, its content will always be displayed by Song names on the AVIC... Using the "Artists" section is not that bad: I noticed that when at the top of the list, if you hit the upper arrow it will take you to the very bottom of the list: that way you dont have to scroll all the way down if u r looking for Artisits starting with Z for instance...it makes it a little more useable...
  6. u mean the entire Dynamic Display is not available or just some of the dynamics? on mine, when i select Slope for instance, it says "function not available now" but this is b/c my VSS wire is not connected. Other dynamics are OK
  7. Thanks...I understand how to make smart playlists with the IPOD... my problem is that, when I navigate on the AVIC thru, let's playlist "Artists B", the content is listed with Song names, not Artists name which make it impossible to actually select the wanted artist...
  8. Besides the well known echo problem (which can be partly addressed by lowering the volume, but then it makes it hard to hear the person...), i find the voice quality pretty bad. People on the other side of the line often complains about it too... I guess it's just the bluetooth link that's not very good...weird since my phone bluetooth earpiece has much better sound. Has anyone been able to get bluetooth working well??? thx
  9. I created Artists Playlists, like "Artists A-D", "Artists E-H",...so that I would have to browse thru all Artists to find one specific. Hoever, when I select on of those plalists, the contents is displayed by Sond Title and no Artists name, which make it useless... Has anyone found a better solution? thx
  10. When I get into my car, my cell automatically re-connect to the Z1 via Bluetooth. When a call comes in or when i dial out, the voice goes thru the AVIC, fine...however i cant figure out how to take over the call with the phone handset to get the sound from the handset only... I'm using a Motorol V195 with T-Mobile. BTW, the Phone Book transfer does not seem to work (every time i try the phone gets disconnected from the AVIC). thx
  11. what about pictures from your IPOD? do they show OK on the AVIC screen? with black bars on each side? do you have any photo by any chance to show us? thanks!
  12. are u sure u had the IPOD set to output video signal (PAL or NTSC)? it's under Video Settings on the IPOD... did u use the docking connector or the headset jack?
  13. thanks. has anyone tried before?
  14. I'm currently using the CD-IB100II iPod ADAPTOR and it works quite well (besides the quite slow scrolling/browsing, but with smart playlists, it is quite decent). I was thinkin about adding the A/V connection from either the docking connector or the headset connector on the IPOD to the RCA AUX input in the back of the Z1 (cable will run into the glove compartment). Has anyone used it? I was wondering how the pictures would show on the screen: does it fill up the screen? is the display adjustable like a DVD (full, zoom,...). Thanks!
  15. The different reset levels are explained in the manual (at the end). it also explains what is/is not whiped out after the reset. Even though I get the parking brake alarm (and I think my brake wire is grounded), the maunal flashing does seem to work sometimes... But as per Ducatiboy, i will have the brake wire disconnected and will probably get one of his circuit too.
  16. just posted a similar one... The reason i think is that you parking brake wire is grounded, so when vehicle is moving the systems sees the barking brake on while vehicle is in motion which does not make sens so it sends the Warning. Same for me, when I reset the unit, Warning goes away but eventually comes back... You have to leave the parking brake wire disconnected (just tape it off). BTW, i think the manual light flashing and/or the DB circuit will not work if the parking brake wire is permanently grounded. I have to go back to my shop to ask them to disconnect it from the grou
  17. Thanks for the quick reply. I had read read your bypass document and most of your posts too but was a little confused too. I thought that the reset would clear the alarm for good... So the manual light flash wont work right? Parking wire has to be left unconnected of connected to the parking brake wire (and the parking break not set of course) for the bypass to work, correct? My install guy told me about the manual flash bypass (he did not want to install the TR7) but I guess he did not know that the brake wire was to be left no connected: he should have spent more time on avic411
  18. I think the parking brake wire has been grounded (have to check with the install guy) and I get the Warning every so often: i did a reset of the unit and that seemed to clear the alarm but after some time it came back. Any idea?
  19. oups...sorry about that...yes, the AVIC Z1...
  20. I guess it might be that my brake wire has actually been grounded (I thought this install shop did not connect it at all, but maybe i'm wrong...). If that's the case, I just need to reset the unit once I get the Parking Brake warning and then do the manual flashing every time I start the car (or get Ducatiboy circuit), is that correct?
  21. I had my unit installed in my 03 ML350: looks and runs great! I am still a little confused about the motion bypass hack... Brake wire is not connected, ILL is connected (screen dims when I turn on the lights). Whenever I start the car, it seems that as long as I dont drive, I can access all features (POI, DVD...) even w/o flashing the lights upon bootup. When I start driving, I get the Warning message and those features are disabled. Whenever I stop at a stop sign/traffic light, they become available again...So it looks like the motion detector of the AVIC does its job... My quest
