  1. I tried the steps outlined by Biker90. After step 7 the unit would not restart. It would go to the "Pioneer Screen" and just sit there. After a very long time, I tried hitting the menu or map button. It would go to the initial screen (the one with destination, etc) and stop there. Tried each type of reset but no joy. I tried to get into Windows CE via test mode and it would go to the Windows CE blue screen then immediately go black and the whole unit would shut down. I have done all manner of trial and error I can think of but nothing is working. Anybody have any ideas?

  2. I did the "unofficial" upgrade to 3.0 as I did not want to pay for the upgrade until I was sure it worked. I have had the reboot, lock up problems many others have had. I have since gone back to 2.06. My system is the f90. I have gone through every post in the forum and tried the solutions I found such as deleting files and folders. I have done a clean 2.0 install from the files on the forum, done the 2.06 upgrade then the 3.0 upgrade. I still have the same lockup and reboot problems. Has anyone been able to resolve these problems with the official upgrade. I don't mind paying for the upgrade, I just want to make sure it is going to work before I do. For me, so far, it doesn't look like it will.

  3. I am having similar problems but they are bizarre. I get lock-ups and the reboot loop. It only happens on freeways, not surface streets and in similar locations on the freeways I travel regularly. I can't help but think that it has something to do with what is being written to the screen. I have tried the various deleting of files that is recommended in the forum. Here is what I plan on doing on my next day off...If anyone has any other ideas I should consider, please let me know:

Reinstall 2.0 using the clean files available on the forum

    Do the 2.06 upgrade

    Do the 3.0 upgrade

Install Diaftia's mod (Besides being a great mod, it is the only way I have found to disable the highway signs. My initial observation was that it locked when these signs appeared)

    Any ideas for anything else?

  4. I've noticed a few things in 3.0 that I never saw before. One road had flashing yellow lines parallel to it on both sides with small yellow circles with the number 30 in it. This road is not under construction and the speed limit is 45. I see this at all times of the day including 5:30 am when there is no traffic. Also, on freeways I see a bunch of green dots. They don't seem to correspond to anything except maybe off ramp starting and ending points.

I was wondering if there is a pdf or file somewhere that has all the changes 3.0 delivered. I searched the forums and there wasn't anything that I could find.

  5. I just got a little lost...I've seen in posts that several people with f90bt have done the 3.01 upgrade. am I misunderstanding? Should I apply this 3.01 upgrade you included the link for to a f90 if I already have the 3.0 upgrade? Sorry, don't mean to be dense...but probably, I am

  6. Hi, I have done the 3.0 upgrade and have seen references to a 3.1 or 3.01 update. I cannot find any reference to this update on Pioneer's site. The only references I can find to it on this site don't mention where to get it or the links referred to are broken. I have the F90bt. The 3.0 upgrade went great, thanks to all here for there help. Is the 3.01 update for my unit? Do I need it? Where can I get it? Thanks in advance folks. Don

  7. I have not been on this site in a long time and was surprised to see the information about the 3.0 Upgrade. I have a F90BT. When I went to 6th Ave as some of you have recommended, the only Pioneer upgrade I can find is described as "Pioneer CNSD-150FM Map Upgrade for AVIC-F500BT Navigation System". Is this the one I want for the F90BT or is there another one I have not yet found. Thanks in advance, Don

  8. For my part:

    Boot improved like everyone else

Bluetooth with Blackberry Pearl flawless now - didn't work before at all

    IPOD doesn't lose connection

Problem 1: VR does not work when it did before. Will not recognize a call command, will not read all IPOD commands past initial few words: IE: Play the Artist Chicago becomes playing all artists.

Problem 2: Volume button functions are inconsistent: (May be tied to #1 above). Does not mute, does not always bring up the VR menu, erratic when zooming in map, sometimes doesn't, sometimes zooms the wrong way, sometimes zooms too much. Volume works fine, next and previous track works fine. (This was not a problem before 2.0 update

Problem 3: Darn gas station icons (MSN) are still there

  9. I am having problems with voice recognition since the update. The phone works great so I know the mic is in a good place and is connected right. When I say "Play the playlist don's songs" I get "showing all playlists". Same thing with artists, albums songs, It only hears the key word and lists the whole database. When asking it to call someone, it goes back to whatever song was playing. (I have not edited my telephone lists yet so this may be the problem there).

Anyone had anything similar and been able to find a fix?

    Don

  10. I am also using MSN in the Phx Metro Area. When it works, it:

    1. Puts an icon on the map showing congestion or accident

    2. Colors the road red when congestion tied to the same entry showing the icon appears.

    3. Shows different icons for congestion or accident

    4. On the MSN screen provides a list of incidents, accidents, congestion and road closures that is easy to read and navigate.

Sometimes these notifications are quick (I am on the 101 and see the icon before the incident), sometimes they are not (I am on the 101 crawling along and then see the icon further along on the map) and sometimes they are not there at all. All in all, I have found it to be fairly accurate and helpful. The listing has helped me keep track of freeway closures on the weekends pretty well.

However, it does not always work. And if you are not in the solid green area on their coverage map on the web site, it is not very good.

  11. I have tons of gas station icons all over my map I suspect this is from MSN rather than the unit's POIs as they are different colors which I think represents their prices. Anyway, I have checked manual and all POI settings I can find and they are all turned off. I seem to remember a post in the past about this. Has anyone found a way to get them off the map?

    Tks, Don

  12. I too have had a 90 for about three weeks. I sometimes debate exchanging it for a kenwood unit but there are too many things I like. Your concerns:

Boot time: Well, it's not instant on. ON the other hand, the Tom-Tom I used to use took a little while to get itself going. It is about 15 seconds to music, 30 seconds to full use, maybe a minute at the longest for me.

Nav Orientated North: Previous answer says it all.

    Sirrius: Don't use it

Bluetooth: I also have a blackberry although a different model. When it works, it works great but it drops and reconnects all the time. Like so many others, I am hoping for a fix to this on the next update. This is a deal breaker for me.

IPod: Drops connection too frequently for my taste. Usually once per use but I find it really annoying.

Other Stuff: For me the main features over the Kenwood were the ability to control the unit by voice. I was also very intrigued by the MSN capability and it has already saved me time by alerting me to freeway closures. The price was a consideration for me as the Pioneer is somewhat less expensive than the kenwood units. Lastly, I believe this unit is incredibly customizable. I have not done too many of the adjustments yet because I do not want to do all the work to have the new update trash it all. However, I think after the next update, the ability to customize this unit will really come to life

Final Thought: If you can delay your purchase a week or two, the rumors are that the next update may be out by then. If they fix the main issues, IE: Bluetooth, IPOD disconnecting, and to a lesser degree boot time, I will be pretty happy and think you will find it to be a great unit for the price.

    Don

  13. When I start my f90 the IPOD cataloging starts and will not stop. When this is going I have only limited control over the IPOD and no voice control at all. If I turn cataloging off, I get control back. But, turning it off doesn't really work for me. I listen to a lot of podcasts and update my IPOD all the time. Does anyone have any idea what the fix for this might be?

    Thanks, Don

  14. Thanks everyone. One question that came up is the mounting bracket and wiring harness for my car. Both Crutchfield and SonicElectronix advertise that they include the harness and bracket for my car at no extra charge. Other companies do not mention this. If it get it from al-ed's, or an amazon site for example, do I have to purchase the wiring harness and bracket somewhere else? If so where?

    Thanks, Don

  15. I will probably be ordering a F900 today or tomorrow. I was thinking about Cruthcfield or Sonic. Sonic is less expensive but Crutchfield support seems a little more detailed. They both offer wiring harness and mounting brackets etc for my 08 Nissan Altima. Does anyone have any thoughts about these dealers or any others?

    Thanks, Don

  16. Well after some research, trying to decompile the executables (which I cannot fully accomplish since they are ARM Windows CE (though surprisingly I have found a linux tool which will work) it looks like Pioneer farmed out much of the script and actual code work to China. Also trying to follow the script flow I am seeing some really bad programming practices. Its real spaghetti code, even for a script. There are multiple copies of the same files in different directories for crying out loud!

Anothe problem I am having, I am trying (using Winzip 11.2) to uncompress/modify/recompress the data.zip to make life easier. Also i wanted to mess with the compression settings (using none and very compressed) to see the impact on boot time.

I did replace the chimes with a nice bump type sound. Its a smaller wav so it plays faster (to me at least) and its less grating. Still the NAV uses different sound files, as do the main menu hard buttons.

I am pretty close to getting the Windows CE device emulator to work on my desktop. i hope to at least run MainMenu.exe - granted there is no hardware emulators so I dont know how much it will test.

But, I am still thinking its just not worth the effort. I just wanted a nice NAV system that worked, not one I had to work for.

I wonder if the inefficient code writing is contributing to the boot time?

    Don
