  1. ok, nevermind. I got it to play videos. I dont know what I did. It just miraculously started playing all my videos, thank goodness.
  2. Glad to hear yours worked Wyatt! Hopefully newbees with the avic 500bt will read our success and be able to bypass through the software since the hardware mod is non-existant in this unit. We really have to be greatful for such an informative forum with excellent hackers!!
  3. Ah, the ground wire is in the cigarette adapter. They don't honestly expect people to plug that thing in to their 12v power port, right? Surely you're going to hardwire it to make the install as clean as possible? Actually they do, but you can make it looks as clean as possible by using a female cig adapter. Just splice it into the car cig adapter. Thats what I did and I place it inside the center console to hide it. Worked out great!
  4. Yeah, it was a pretty gratifying moment. But rest assured and dont worry it does work. Its so convenient to be able to access the settings, like screen brightness, etc.. I didnt really do it for the videos. Maybe the ground for the 500BT is connect to the ground of the cig/car holder.
  5. Hey skicrave, Do you happen to know which ipods are compatible? I have an ipod video and it has the most recent update. I have videos on mine and it didnt play any. I just got my unit bypassed too as your well aware.
  6. Guys and Gals, To get the AVIC-F500BT bypassed you need to do the software mod then properly ground the parking brake wire. If you do this, it will work!!! ps: make sure your wire is grounded properly, I made the mistake of not doing this and could never get it to work.
  7. IT WORKS!!!!!! Stephanie was right, I wasnt grounding it properly. I first connected it to my negative terminal on my battery to be sure and it worked. Then I found another bolt nearby and it worked too!! I am so happy.!I am such an idot, I should have checked to make sure it was receiving a proper ground, bolts can be decieving. I need to re-edit some of my posts. Bypass for thie AVIC 500BT involves software mod and properly grounding the parking brake.
  8. Alright, I am going to try and connect it to the negative terminal of my battery, seems this is the most reliable option. Hopefully that will work. I'll post my results when I am done.
  9. The avic 500bt does not have a ground wire. Uhhh...I dont know what a continuity tester or DMM is. I do have a volt meter? Skicrave do you mean to disconnect the parking brake wire from the car or disconnect the parking brake wire from the unit and ground that? Just want to clarify.
  10. Okay, lots of q's to answer here... What was your process to edit the zip files? I went to Vorians data.zip opened up the project_config folder and changed this, [pioneer] parking_break_speed=16.0 hide_logos=1 to this [pioneer] parking_break_speed=216.0 hide_logos=1 then I saved it onto my desktop and transfered the file to the folder where I had changed it intially "project_config". It asked me it would replace the same file and I clicked "yes", and voila! it successfully changed it. You didnt do any sort of uncompressing and recompressing did you? I
  11. Gee wiz, you were right HiFiSi, I didnt have my parking brake wire properly grounded!
  12. I just got done adding the software bypass on Vorians DATA.zip. I installed it on my unit (AVIC-F500BT) and grounded the parking brake...guess what... it does NOT WORK!!
  13. I hope your guess is correct. Do you mind emailing me Vorians zip file with the software bypass? Email it to SSaul27 at gmail dot com. I have easy access to the parking brake wire and can confirm if it does indeed work, saves you the hassle of ripping your dash apart. I know the software bypass alone will not work, I have to lightly depress the brake to activate the grayed out areas.
  14. I have been given the wrong directions twice now on this unit. Not very happy. Pioneer needs to fix thier shit. I have added an address and used the poi and its taken me to a dead end street too. I expected better navigation features even though this is my first nav. unit.
  15. Hey Vorian, You think you can add the software bypass to your DATA.zip? I want to try it on my 500bt but this time with the parking brake grounded. If you are too busy, I will give it a shot. Thanks.
  16. Oh, crap, I still have that problem. I forgot to post that. Its not really a big deal to me because when I'm in the car I crank it all the way because I am driving it. However, this is an annoying feature. I might call my stereo shop and ask them what they would do. Vorians mod is the using his Data.zip file. It gets rid of the blue boxes, gives you a bigger clock, provide mph and altitude, etc. More info can be found in this thread. http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 0&start=15
  17. yeah, I dont have an IP bus port on the unit but I do have an extra auxillary port from my car.
  18. Stephanie, do you think its possible to add XM/Sirius radio to the AVIC-500BT.?Or would the hardware components be required for that? When looking at the 500Bt's files I saw xm radio icons in the file. It made me think this might be possible.
  19. The 500BT unit, like the rest of them need a bypass mod in order to have access to video or navigation input. Unfortunately, because the wiring connections are different in the 500BT, all the mods for bypass do not apply for this unit. You could do the software mod and ground the parking brake wire to see if this bypasses the unit. This is the one thing I have not tested.
  20. I have had no problems with my unit. Both bluetooth and voice recognition work well for me. Ipod connects and plays with no problems. The only issue I have with the unit is figuring out a bypass for it and the map always facing north up. But this is a common through out all units. Once I used Vorians settings and got rid of the blue boxes I was much happier. I highly recommend installing his settings. They are more practical and look nicer in the screen. I do wish there was just one plug to connect the ipod to the unit instead of two. Boot up time is slow and wish it was faster but a
  21. I didnt ground the parking brake wire because the person who wrote this mod stated it didnt have to be done. If you got it to work by grounding the parking brake then I may give it another shot. Its just a pain in the ass to get to my parking brake wire in my car.

I should have rephrased what I said, I meant figuring out how to bypass the 500BT unit because the wire and software mods dont work on it. I have tried them both and both dont work.
  23. I just had my data.zip file changed with the software bypass by another hacker and it didnt work on my AVIC-F500BT. Also, I know it was installed correctly because I had Vorians settings and all those got changed back to stock once I installed the new data.zip file in my unit. I think its pretty safe to say it doesnt work on the 500BT. Just for reference, I had the parking brake wired. I can bypass it if I lightly set the parking brake but thats not the point of this thread.

This and figuring out how to bypass my unit is the only thing really buggin me right now. I hope the community hackers figure it out soon.
  25. I just ordered 2, one for the g/f and my Dad.
