  1. The only update that you will have to pay for is the ones that have a map upgrade. You are not paying for the firmware update, but you are for the map update. That is the reason for the upgrade fee. You have to pay for map upgrades for any GPS system that you buy. The OS is not Pioneers, but rather Windows CE from Microsoft. Also. putting linux on a mobil system is silly as that is NOT what it was designed for. I'm sorry I don't understand what your mean by linux is not designed for mobile systems. One of the primary applications of linux *is* embedded applications. Such as android.
  2. And as usual, Linux would be as useful on an AVIC as glasses on a monkey. It would be useful because it could potentially improve load times, have a media player with a seekbar and bookmarks, as well as rid it of all the other nuanced warning messages, improve navigation and the user interface. But the question posed was whether it would be possible to get a list of hardware, not whether you deem it beneficial.
  3. What hardware comprises the avic700bt? I'm wondering if there's linux drivers for it, and whether linux would run on it. An alternative OS would be so nice. Pioneer's OS sucks imo, and now they want money for upgrades? not cool.
  4. Wait Wait Wait. They want me to pay $120 to upgrade their crap software on the crap product? The previous firmware upgrade was free.
  5. Hey, I just quickly looked through this thread, ... while browsing around I found this; http://freewareppc.com/utilities/obdgauge.shtml Unfortunately the link seems to be dead. Best of luck, awesome ideas.
  6. Through my experience, the music player bundled with the default firmware kinda sucks. I need something with a seek bar, something that can seek faster than 3 seconds per second. Something with bookmarks... and that doesnt take 3 minutes to load up when playing mp3s. Further more if I'm playing mp3s from SD, it doesnt know how to resume in the middle of the track, but if playing mp3s from cdrom, it works better. Any input from anyone would be appreciated.
  7. Yeah, this was caused by a grounding problem. I have a "bad" ground somewhere behind the deck. touching it against the deck enabled the map/menu buttons. afterwards, undoing a change I had made under "back camera"->polarity GND/Battery resolved the issue. Best of luck.
  8. I'm having the exact same problem! I hooked up a camera to the rear view camera, and now it's stuck in there! the menu or map buttons don't work. If I go into test mode now, I can't close the huge "OK" popup. It just turns the taskbar green, and gets stuck like that. The same cam worked fine with Video in. It worked well for a while as a rearview cam, but now the unit is messed up.
  9. I recently installed a cam in my car. Hooked it up to video in. I don't see an audio in to go with the cam, but the F700bt wants to play audio from that av source when it's selected. Anyhow, I would really like to be able to listen to cd's/mp3s/rom/whatever audio files while looking through the cam. Are there any existing solutions or any leads on potential solutions to accomplish this? Also, as a bonus, are there any solutions to record the video stream? Thanks,
  10. Okay, taking this a step further, lets say I put a few albums on there.. How can I make it play them in a certain order? Will it just be aphanumeric ala filesystem... can I put an m3u in the root of the disc?
  11. If I create a data CD, and put each of the mp3 albums in their respective folders, will the avic find it and play them? Thanks.
  12. Wow. Is it a cdrom drive, or just a software limitation.
  13. Has anyone tried to hack in dvd playback capabilities into this unit?
  14. maybe. I'm thinking it maybe defined there by default (out of scope)... and if we add it to like the top of each of the files (hack in like a global scope), something might happen!
  15. has anyone played with line 105 of variable_dev.ui ?
