Your method should work but like Catch said it's probably not secure enough. Besides, moving the wire over is a much cleaner way of doing it. When I was test-fitting mine the unit would restart every time I moved it somewhat and I narrowed it down to the ground wire that looked like it was secure but it was moving just slightly causing it to lose power. On the plus side if you do start to get warnings you'll know what the problem is

I need some (a lot) of help with something from someone that is good with electronics and electric circuits and all that junk. What I'm trying to do accomplish is convert a momentary switch to a simple on/off (SPST) switch or have some sort of device/board in between the momentary switch and the device to sort of serve as an intermediary. I have seen couple of schematics on how to do it and 1 or 2 theoretical write-ups but I don't really understand any of it. Anyone game to help out?

^ see? This kind of project looks way more complicated before you start it. Once you have all the components in your hands and you start to play with it, everything starts to make sense. Now you get to enjoy it even more because you installed it yourself. Can't beat that feeling.

I've been running forums and been active member in a lot of of them for a long time and I can honestly say that I've been sort of guilty of asking questions that there is an answer for it already out there. Thanks, I figured out few things since then. Also, figured out that the unit will not turn off but that's ok because I will be putting in a master switch for it anyway. That way I will be able to to control when it comes on/off.

Is it only off when you are driving or when sitting still as well? Is it consistently off or does it change? How many satellites are you tracking?

I believe the harness you need is Metra 70-1787. You will also need a double din mounting kit. Pioneer sells one (ADT-VA133) plus dash trim kit. That you will have to find out on your own. I am not familiar with A6 dash.

I've made the image in PS myself and double checked the size multiple times and exported it to .jpg several time with different options. It's not a big deal at all. It was more curiosity than anything. If it starts annoy me I can just play with sizes and figure out what works.

Back from the dead. I was just thinking about painting the faceplate to remove all the labels and color match all trim pieces with the rest of the dash. It doesn't look complicated at all but it's nice to know exactly what's there before you do it.
