  1. Ill be the bigger person here and chose to ignore the first part. Now lets dissect the hack. "stop nav". Two words. One a verb, the other a noun. Using basic grammar and logic skills, one can safely assume that the "stop nav" hack gives you the control to stop the navigation.
  2. That doesnt make either of us wrong. I stated that anyone on this forum knows to ground the wire, while VBLUE42 correctly stated that grounding the wire is not enough to permanently remove the graying out of functions. Also, being a mechanic does nothing for your credibility. And please at least use correct terminology: Its called a "parking brake". They do nothing for you in an emergency situation, and are only designed to hold a parked car.
  3. If youre going to ask a question, then at least ask an intelligent question that can actually be answered, and ask it in the right place, like the thread(s) pertaining to the hack you have a question about. As it is, your questions are too vague to be answered and you are doing nothing to make them any more specific. Ill leave you with this: It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt . -- George Eliot
  4. As was said by VBLUE42: Use the unit. As I said: Read the threads. Ill add: Read the Operator's Manual. Everything you could possibly want to know will be answered in one of those ways.
  5. Sorry to burst your bubble, but everyone who has spent more than 2 minutes on this forum already knows to ground the wire rather than connect it to the handbrake at all.
  6. Your question was generic, as was my answer. Most of the mods are self-explanatory or the threads about them say what they do, why they were done, and other things of that nature. So again Ill say: People do the mods to make the unit better as per their personal preferences. They add features they want, change ones they dont like as they are, and remove features they dont want. Anything more detailed is best searched for in the individual mod threads or by asking the creator.
  7. Simply: Why not? In reality, the stock setup isnt perfect. Since the unit can be hacked, why not make it perfect. Or better yet, perfect for the specific user. The half dozen mods Ive done in the week and a half Ive owned my 700 have all been to make the unit more friendly for me by either eliminating steps in processes (delete route button in the route info screen), adding features I think are cool (altimeter), or adding functions that should have been part of the unit from the factory (nav voice mute button on the map). To answer your question, people are replacing, fixing, or adding
  8. There is a reason that radios (and a ton of other factory systems) lose power during cranking. The starter motor draws a ton of power from the battery. Having any extra drain on the system can severely effect a battery's life span, as well as potentially shortening the life of starter components. The other issue of course is that in such situations where the starter has to struggle to begin with (extreme cold, for example), accessory draw may leave the starter motor without enough current to actually start the car. In a nutshell, dont do this without another battery as a backup for the rad
  9. The last code made the difference. And I was already hooked. Before this I did about half a dozen established hacks and some custom button icons to go with some of them. This unit is a ton of fun to play with.
  10. Success! The re-assigned button works exactly as I hoped it would
  11. Mine is currently right above my rearview mirror. Unfortunately It cant stay there since there is too much wind noise from the convertible top. I cant even imagine it in the summer. I think I may have to follow Pioneer's advice and find a way to mount it to the steering column.
  12. I was doing that during my test. Ill try the new code in the morning. Too cold to be running back and forth from the parking lot. Thanks again for all of your help so far
  13. I tested it. It works great with one thing left to fix, which is entirely my fault for not specifying beforehand. When it returns to the map it does not return to the current GPS position, but rather to the destination.
  14. Id help out, but I havent been above 700ft in six months. At least not in a car, or on this continent.
  15. Have yet to test it. I have to run to the store, so Ill report back after
  16. I already had the button renamed. I just had to add the "nextstate st_NavigateMap" to the code I had figured out on my own.
  17. Thanks a bunch. I got the confirmation to pop up to cancel, just never found the code to get it to go back to the map once confirmed. Im assuming this does so? Time to test it out i suppose
  18. On the metal subframe? Sounds like youre using the entire vehicle as an antenna. Mines going quite well on the dash. Nowhere else to put it. Convertible = no back deck, and theres no way Id ever run wires over the outside of my car
  19. I had to splice a different antenna adapter onto my wire to install the unit. I just soldered the inner wire well, wrapped it in etape, then reconnected the shield by pulling all of it to one side of the wire and soldered like mad. After sealing the whole thing Ive had a perfect signal with no noise issues.
  20. Something like this, or is there something more specific you wanted? Larger badge, off-center? I also took the liberty of scaling it to 800x480
  21. My simple in-progress screen for my Saab 9-3. I was thinking I may end up doing a color version and making the griffin 3D. I only have a bit of image manipulation experience, so who knows.
  22. He has them for $299.99 with free shipping now. That annoys me. I just paid $399.99 at their ebay store only two weeks ago.
