  1. also, do not use the t-tap that comes on that wire, cut it off and tap into the wire correctly.
  2. your solution is simple, do not connect your camera wire to the constant power because the camera will never shut off and it will drain your battery over night. run the power wire for the camera up to the red ACC wire at the radio and hook the reverse wire from the radio up to the reverse light. this way the camera will only be on when the radio is turned on so it can be manually selected when ever you want, and also the radio will switch over to it when the car is in reverse automatically.
  3. for the average person or an install in a car, they usually wouldn't need the camera on while going forward, but it is useful to keep a closer eye on a load being towed. great that you got it figured out!
  4. does it still have all of the features that it did when you bought it? pretty sure it does. pioneer is not a software company, they build and sell hardware, it is just silly to expect them to bend over backwards to keep developing software for discontinued models, especially since none of there competition does (alpine, kenwood, eclipse...). fixing problems is one thing, but keeping old products up to date with new emerging technology is just a waste of their time and resources. lets look at the most notorious company for doing this, Apple, every year they make a tiny little update or improvem
  5. a lot of people have bought radios used, and instead of getting the right harness for the nav, the seller gave them a harness for a regular radio, and while some may work, they are missing the extra pins for the nav wires basic radios dont have. OP: however, if the seller does mean that he just does not have the long part of the wires after the quick disconect, but he does still have the short wires coming out of the back of the radio, then you will be fine, you can use any small gauge wire.
  6. correct, the software companies need to get a certian amount of people complaining about certian glitches before they will start working on patches.
  7. before it is installed? it is kinda hard since it need to have power to reset it. but if you have a power supply, then it could be. but if it is installed already, why not just reset it while it is in the car? get the right disc and you should be good to go (as long as there is not any other problems with the radio as you were told)
  8. need?, no, the system will function fine with out the VSS wire or the reverse wire hooked up. what are they for? the VSS wire tells the radio how fast the car is going even when the car is not receiving any GPS info, the reverse wire tells the radio when the car is shifted into reverse. you will not be able to have a backup camera without the reverse wire connected.
  9. wow so much usefull information, i dont even know where to begin! if you cant do a better job of describing your problem, nobody is going to be able to help you. (which is probable why it has been months with no replies) so for starters, did you connect the amp turn on wire to the correct factory amp turn on wire? are you using the correct wire harness? since this is a 6+ year old model, are you sure that it works? if you ever have any problems, you need to start with the exact year, make, and model of the car, any optional OEM equipment (onstar, bose,
  10. the whole point of the password is to keep people from using the unit that do not know what the password is, no amount of resetting this will fix it. if a hard reset would get around the password, what would be the point of setting it in the first place either remember the password, or call and ask the guy who you brought it from. this is why passwords are stupid on radios, they in no way will keep you radio from getting stolen, but they will sure keep you from using it if you forget it!
  11. unhook the VSS wire, reset the unit and see what happens. also, where do you have the GPS antenna located?
  12. well for starters, if you read somewhere that ipods with 1.3 wont work, and your ipod has 1.3, then i think you have found your answer. i would see if there is a newer version of apple software available, if not, you will have to get a hold of older software (which is much harder than updating) worse case, you could get a different cable and hook it up so that you have to control it through the ipod itself.
  13. also, a lot of newer cars dont use the old kind of VSS signal, they use a digital signal that the avics cant understand. this is why the proper harness for mid 2000's and newer gm trucks have such an expensive harness, the harness has a computer module that reads all of the computer commands from the trucks Can Bus and then converts it to something the the radio can understand (ACC, VSS, reverse, and parking brake are all things that this harness needs to convert)
  14. couple of things... first, are you sure that you got the right wire? did you test it with a meter to verify that it is outputting a VSS signal? second, did you reset the unit and allow it time to relearn the cars signal and calibrate itself? (i am assuming that this was a used unit, it may just need to re calibrate as the signal from this car may be different that the signal from the old car)
  15. ok to get bluetooth, you need to have the bluetooth adapter. same thing for the iphone

    Car Seed Signal

it is the signal from the car (usually from a speed sensor, or an ABS sensor) that tells the speedometer how fast the car is going so that the car can tell you how fast you are going. that avic will read this speed pulse signal and will use it to track how fast the car is moving, which will make the nav system a little more accurate, especially in areas where you dont get the best GPS signal
  17. as mentioned in another thread, i would start by painting that metal bracket black to hide it better, then, you could cut a piece of piece ABS plastic and epoxy it to the dash kit to fill the gap.
  18. yup, your avic need the reverse wire (purple/white) connected so that it knows when the car is in reverse.
  19. cool man, the home town of Kicker (stillwater designs!)
  20. maybe check to see if there is a Bluetooth update available for your unit.
  21. well depending on what you did you blow the fuse, you may have fried your avicor blew more fuses, i would check the fuses first.
  22. now i can see a reason to upgrade from a X series to a Z series, but why would you want to upgrade from a 920 to a 940?
  23. he doesn't need to get all 17k songs on his iphone, he has a ipod classic which means that he should have either a 120gb or a 160gb (i thought the 80gb were before they where called classics but not 100%) which is plenty of space with the right compression.
