  1. ...And I'm done with Pioneer now as well. I can't say I've had many of their products, but a Pioneer DVD player I bought a few years ago suffered from a failure of a digital audio output (I think the fiber optic, but not the RF), and now TWO failed F500's. Similar failure symptoms for the F500; brickified. While Dual may not have the features, it has one feature mine doesn't: it powers up and operates. I'm thinking of going to Kenwood... Going with In-dash nav now like I probably should have before.
  2. Update on this story: I don't think the update had anything to do with the old unit failure. They replaced it under warranty (different SN came back) something about the motherboard, I think. Never did get a clear story on what was wrong. So the "new" unit (which had a big "FACTORY REFURB" sticker on the back) seemed to work fine, with the usual bug of occasionally dropping the date and time, until a couple weeks ago. Got out at a WaWa (local Kwik-E-Mart chain in Philly) to get some coffee on the way to work. Unit worked when I shut down the car, and that was it. Getting back in,
  3. OK, thanks for the guidance. I tried loading Testmode; nothing seemed to happen. Downloaded Testmode.zip (from another sub-forum, for F series units), unpacked all files and transferred to SD card. Powered up unit with SD card; bluetooth light comes on, no flashing, no nothing.
  4. So I decided to update the firmware to 2.006 today. Equipment: US version of F500, no other amps or options connected Downloaded the firmware off the Pioneer website for F500, version 2.006. Followed the directions to unzip and load the folders onto the SD card. Installed SD card with power off, powered up car. Came back after 15 minutes, unit had updated and rebooted. Checked firmware page, indicated 2.006 Followed instruction for TTS updates, but it seemed they were already done. At this point, I think I powered the unit down, BUT FORGOT TO TAKE OUT THE SD CARD! I powere
  5. Mine has done similar things (full reboot after a long period of not driving the car); no add on amp, just hardwired in to the 12 VDC line, and the 12 V lighter plug that switches on and off with ignition. I noticed in the last few weeks that it was re-booting every time I get in the car now. The annoying thing is it assumes it's 0300, so it takes a few minutes to re-orient itself. That and I have to acknowledge the safety tip screen, AND the parking brake interlock thing. I think the battery has now died; I charged it overnight off the AC adapter, and that same day it still did a fu
  6. I tried manually updating the time, system didn't seem to like that. I think it completely threw off it's position on the planet. I couldn't change the time zone and then set it back to "auto" time update. If I did, then the time zone would change back to mine (Eastern). I did notice today though that the time is now showing Daylight time. So until the fall, I guess it's fixed. Kind of frustrating, my dad's GMC Envoy with factory Nav has an option to select Daylight or Standard time.
  7. OK, so I got an AVIC F500bt, and got all the bypass stuff hooked up. It plays video from the camera input, but won't play video off the SD slot or USB port. I've updated the firmware to 2.0, that all seemed to go pretty well. For videos created on a different camera, and downloaded to the SD card from my laptop, I get audio, but no video. The controls are there on the screen, but it is black otherwise. When I disconnected the parking brake ground wire, the "Caution" screen comes up, then when I re-connect the ground, that screen clears. So it's not a bypass problem. For vide
