  1. my question (and thoughts) are this....I have no problem paying $70 for map updates, the firmware fixes should be on them, and they are forcing payment by combining the two...that being said, are they really? One of us with talent needs to get our hands on this....it could be that there are actually two seperate pieces, the firmware, and the maps. it would make a lot of sense (and easily done) to lock the maps by serial number as this is a third party app and i am sure they have to track and honor a royalty agreement....getting around this would be questionalble (ethically - technically,
  2. I guess as annoying as the damn message is you would think it would be as easy to find as the bypass info if there were a solution.....do I like tbird's answer not really, but then again, that crap can be avoided by using the search function and locating the other 5 million posts in regard to this. At least if the OP follows those instructions we would have an original post
  3. Count me in, and let me know what is going on as far as hotel reservations. I have all of our business travel cordinated with holiday inn and we get some pretty decent discounts on both rooms and meeting facilities. Last year we had attended a trade show in orlando and ended up being able to use a large conf. room for 2 days far around $80 per day....worked out great and became party central.
  4. I have thought about the triangulation method, and actually experimented with using a strength of signal method to determine radio proximity to my relative location. It actually works, but the limitations are huge...first and formost, by detecting radio signals, the radio you are looking for must be broadcasting (as in if the officer in the car is not the one TALKING on the radio they dont show up), the other part that you cant account for when it comes to relitive proximity is latency generated from surounding buildings, terrain, or other electrical interferance. Now...on another thought
  5. I stand corrected....from playing with mine tonight I get nav instructions from both front speakers unless I am listening to sd or usb, then I get it from the rears as well...sorry for the confusion
  6. that was more or less my reason for saying it sucks...also coming from a carpc background, i really miss being able to either selsct a specific artist, or specific playlist, or even genre. As it stands right now I am running a 250gb usb disk so that I can have my music sorted they way I may want to play it back...every song ends up on there at least once, but some of my tunes are in 6 different locations (as in 6 copies of the same file so I can pull it by artist, playlist, etc), and that seems totally insane. I am thinking about doing the ipod hard disk mod as I have an old 4gb mini sit
  7. it will still mute, but if you have your music cranked you will also get your directions cranked. also directions will come through all 4 speakers when listening to usb or sd, any other source it only comes through the front left. also, the navigation through songs sucks...it will only play in the order you copy them to the stick; id3 tags are not utilized for anything
  8. This is a bit premature as I have not yet done all my research, and I know this has been discussed a bit, but not really hammered out...The USB/SD player sucks, and I was curious how hard it would be to replace it with mobile media player. At least with that we could sort of ID3 support. My first random thought was to look into reprogramming the SD button to launch media player and go from there, but like I said, a bit premature as I have not even confirmed that mp is installed on the unit. Just throwing out a thought and looking for feedback. As a side note, special thanks to those
  9. Fortunalty i paid around $300 for my 700, and as much as another $100 is not a big purchase there is something wrong with the idea of buying a product, and then paying again to have it work as expected.....in my mind its kinda like if you bought a new benz for $90k, and when you went to pick it up you found it sitting on blocks...the dealer walks out with a smile and casually asks "oh, you want tires with that; there another $1500" In the big picture another $1500 is not that big of a deal, but you would deffinatly be shocked (and pissed) they were not included
  10. I knew buying it the volume knob suked, so the day I ordered the unit I nought the Thom Knob, and I was prepared for long boot up times, but even with yer 2, it still is borderline acceptable. In short, I am satisfied and would do it again, but only because I picked up my f700 for $320 (factory refurb w 2 yr warranty)...if I paid anywhere close to the $700+ most people paid I would be downright pissed. for the money I spent it was worth it...for the money others seem to have spent you can do MUCH better
