1. Hey Guys, So while sorting out my OEM sub to Z1 problem for the thousandth time (which I think it ended up being a bad metra harness, we'll see if this fixes it), I decided to slowly take apart and check all my connections on the Z1 harness itself. Well after putting it all back together I discovered my XM radio, XM navtraffic and IPod stuff doesn't work! Then I saw that I forgot to ground the wire for those two items. So I grounded the wire and it still won't work! I have both of them running their yellow battery wires to the yellow batter wire on my metra harness that

3.
well today I ask my wife if the sub was working she said no, so I was like FUc. so when she got home I went out to the truck to see what was going on and it didnt seem like it was on but then I started to remeber I think I turned down the bass on the eq(I was right) so adjusted the eq better and it was working with no problems just didnt have the bass turned up. good luck Duke grcplaya
Hmm, that's odd on the airbag deal. I don't think any of the wiring has anything to do with the airbag, so I have no clue on that. Regarding the sub, it's REALLY w
4. Best of luck with the OEM sub and the Z1. I'm still fighting through this problem as I have an 05 F150 with the audiophile sub. One thing you'll definitely need to do is ground the black wire from the OEM harness to a ground wire as the aftermarket harness doesn't have this wire. This OEM wire is the ground for the sub shield. However, I did this but I still get static over the sub and it stops working periodically. I think it might be related to the 5V reducer thing that I did that so many people suggest. 1500 ohm resistor is what every shop suggests and I'm going to giv
5. So we're saying the newer Z1s cannot be bypassed with the original bypass setup from Ducati? Duke
6. Well I grounded the black wire coming from the OEM harness and so far so good (knock on wood). The sub hasn't crackled nor cut out and stoped working. I'm so glad this project is done. This thread will be a huge help to anyone with a Ford vehicle and OEM sub. This gives the wiring diagram for the sub, the correct way to reduce voltage from the aftermarket headunit to prevent sub thump, and the correct way to make sure the OEM sub doesn't give you performance problems. Duke
7. I'll update tonight when I try and ground that wire. I just haven't had time to do it over the weekend. Duke
8.
I didn't know for sure on the drain wire so I didn't respond. The shield wire is definitely like another ground, and that is obvious once you start to peel back the tubing most of the wiring harness is in. The shield wires are generally bare and they are run in any high current or noise-sensitive circuits to prevent inducing or receiving "hum" or other electrical interference. It makes sense your drain wire would be an additional ground. Black is generally ground in Fords.
I sure hope we're right. I'm actually going to snap in a wire that will go from t
9. Well I feel like I'm having a conversation with myself. I called Metra and talked to them about it. Apparently the black wire from the OEM harness that doesn't connect to anything is the Shield Ground Wire. This wire normally isn't needed but some OEM amps and subs can be "touchy" and need the extra ground. I will ground that wire later tonight and see if that makes a difference. Duke
10. I've also seen this wire be labled as the shield wire. So does anyone know what a shield or drain wire is? Duke
11. I found this diagram which shows the 4 wires for the 05 F150 audiophile plug. The black wire marked "drain" is the wire that doesn't have anything on the metra harness which connects it. Does anyone know what the "drain" wire does and what, if anything, it should be connected to? Duke
12. Upon suggestion that it might be the metra harness I purchased from CC, I went to CC and talked with the store manager who happened to be an older guy who used to run a car stero shop and worked on this stuff forever. I described my problem and we both went out to the truck (which as usually happens, wouldn't make the noise) and removed the dash panel and looked at the metra harness, Z1 harness and stock harness which are all involved in making the OEM sub and amp work with the Z1. [u][b]We believe we identified the problem. It has to be the connection between the stock sub harness
13.
wow, I've been doing this for years, and you've throughly confused the s**t out of me  Judging by your wireing schematic you dont have an electrical engineering background? The CC guy told you that it might be a grounding problem, I'm not sure he ment the RCA cables. Somewhere in the loop you have a factory amp. If I were you I would first check all connections on the amp (OEM amp Pwr/Grnd/trn on & sub+/-) If all is secure, I would then investigate how the subwoofer signal is getting to the factory amp. Most Factory amps do not use RCA cables, and perhaps a c
14. Found Imageshack. Here is the diagram I drew showing my current wiring. Duke
15. I drew a picture and saved it as jpeg but can't find anywhere to host it. Can someone send me their email address who can post pictures and I'll send them the diagram I drew? Duke
16.
Wow Duke...I wish I could help you! The only suggestion I could offer is to check your "turn on" voltage and see if your regulator is still working. By the way...is there any way moisture could have got to anything? Someone spill something in the truck?
Nope, no moisture what so ever. Tomorrow after work I'm going to take apart the dash panel again and double check the 5V reducer I built from Ducati's suggestion. I've had the crackeling problem even before Ducati's suggestion of putting in a 5V reducer to get rid of the sub thump. It has t
17. Hey Guys, I used to have two problems with my OEM sub on my 2005 F150: 1. Sub crackling during songs and even when unit is off. Kind of like a buzzing and such. 2. Loud thump on startup. Per Ducati's suggestion I built the 5V reducer with a .1uf cap on one side and three .1uf caps on the other. This got rid of the sub thump. Then I heard from a guy at CC that a bad ground is usually the problem of sub crackeling. But to test it and see if it's the sub, disconnect the red and whites and see if the sub crackles. I did this and didn't have any crackling for awhile.
18. Hey Guys, I searched but couldn't find all the info I need. I'm getting some pictures formatted to install on the Z1. I made "Pictures" file on the CD and a dummy data file with 100+mb of dummy data, no songs. The pictures are .jpg. I can't get it to be the size you guys said is correct to fill the entire screen, 2592x1305. Everytime I go to change the size in Microsoft Picture Manager, it puts it at 2592x1944. Any advice here? Duke
19.
I'm pretty sure the V3m does not have OBEX. There was one version of the V3c which did from Verizon, they accidentally left it in. And the Altel firmware might have it as well, but I think that's just to bring back the Moto UI and kill the Verizon UI. You can flash the V3m with V3c firmware but (and this was taken from HowardForums) V3M users, please to NOT flash your phone with the Alltel V3C firmware, or you will basically end up with a V3C phone... (you loose the use of the TF slot, Vcast music supoort, the Verizon Music player, etc..) From my understanding t
20.
That's good to know, as it will definitely save some time for other individuals. If we can confirm that OBEX will work, I'll update the info here.
Yup this a great thread. Can someone make a run to www.howardforums.com and confirm about the Razr on Verizon with OBJEX BT transfers? I'm going to be blocked for 4 days. Also, we'll have a bunch of new phone options coming up soon from Verizon. Duke
21. I remember reading on www.howardforums.com (before I was banned for posting ONE repeat thread - the mod is a real jerk), the V3M Razr from Verizon actually does do OBJEX transfers and will transfer contact by contact to a BT head unit. The advertising said no for the phone, but when actually used, it worked. When my ban is up in 4 days, I'll provide the link. Or feel free to look for it yourself. Verizon Forum > Phone Forum > Motorola Forum and you should find it. Just don't post a repeat thread or you'll get banned. Duke
22. Found a guy who made a cover for the Z1 for security reasons. 23. Hello Guys, I have a motoroa i930 phone with nextel service. Unfortunately it doesn't come with BT so I purchased the Jabra Bluetooth adapter which is compatiable with the i930. You're supposed to plug the Jabra into your phone, then push the button to turn it on. Next push the sync button till the light turns solid blue and it'll go into "pair" mode. Well I also have the BT adapter for my Pioneer Z1. How can I get to the two to pair up? I have the cell phone on, I plug in the jabra and press and hold the button to put it into pair mode. Then at the Pioneer phon
24. Hey Guys, So I'm trying to fix this all right now. I don't have anything that says "Wired Remote". I do have something that says "System Remote Control" and it's a blue wire. However, I was told earlier to cut that wire and put the 5V regulator thing in. Then the regulator connects to the harness that connects to the stock harness. I can't for the life of me find anything that says "Wired Remote" or has a brown connector for that matter coming off the Z1 wiring harness. I'm really lost. Duke
