  1. Has anybody tried *recompressing* the DATA.zip file with a lower compression rate? I don't know offhand what the compression ratio is, but the higher the ratio the longer it takes to uncompress - right? So would recompressing the DATA.zip file with almost no compression increase performance of boot time and/or responsiveness of the unit? We would most likely have to change the memory allocation also, but I'm wondering if anybody has thought of this yet...
  2. First of all, let me say that I have NOT YET hooked up the VSS wire for speed sensing to my F90BT. I just didn't have time when I installed it to go digging for the wire. Issue: When I'm going about 80mph and the map is in 2D mode, every three or four refreshes of the page seem to show my car moving BACKWARDS on the freeway - the direction still shows correctly, but it's like my car timewarped back to a few yards behind me. Anybody seen this? Will hooking up the VSS wire fix this?
  3. So is there a need to change anything in the AVIC other than the map files? You guys are talking about Garmin, iGo, TomTom... Can't we just replace the map files that we have with newer files? Which version of iGo does the AVIC use from the factory with the 2.0 firmware installed? I guess it's a bit confusing because there doesn't seem to be any easy walkthrough on how to update maps. Every post I find jumps right into "try this license file..." or "use the 8.0 maps and not the 8.3 maps" or "the 3dl files from 8.0 work in 8.3" or something. ...WHAT license file? Where do I put this li
  4. I don't know if I've actually thought through the issue that far - but I think you're on to something.
  5. I'm an idiot. That's exactly what I should have done. As far as updating the maps goes, wouldn't I have to hack the complete system to do that? I didn't know that you could just easily replace the map data with other data... I'll be searching for that on this site now!
  6. Personally, I like things retaining most of their stock functionality. Unfortunately, the F-Series guys from Pioneer must smoke weed regularly, which is why we're all here on this message board. I did the following (in order of importance) to mine with the help of a few people on this board: 1. Bypass. This one's a no-brainer - without it, you can't even change your route without pulling over. 2. Instead of removing the sounds, I just edited the files to be quieter. In my opinion, this is MUCH better than having no feedback at all on a unit that tends to be a little slow. I need to know
  7. lol Thanx, Boris. I tried this before I left this morning, and it looks like it will let me ENTER coordinates that I want to set, but not grab my current coordinates. Maybe I'm missing something. Anyway, I was able to tell it where on the map I want it to think my home is, and when I saved that it just saves the location with an address that is about 200 numbers off. I don't even think the address that it has as my "home" now is even a real address! I live on a corner and I essentially had to tell it that I live further south on the street - when there IS NO FURTHER SOUTH on the stre
  8. I'm going to guess that you have all of the cables properly buried inside your car somewhere so that you can't see them. The first thing you should try is setting the PS2 on the seat or something trying new cables that are NOT hidden. Your problem sounds to me like interference from a nearby cable that is carrying higher voltage (most likely a cable that you ran to get power to the PS2). In home installations, which is obviously much higher voltage, you never want to run electrical cables within 6 feet of video/sound cables - you can cross over them perpendicularly, but don't run them in
  9. It says in the manual that the navigation voice will remain at your saved setting *unless you are listening/watching from SD card or USB.* ...Then it is variable with your volume.
  10. Update: I tried multiple contacts yesterday, saying them both "Doe John" and "John Doe"... And then I got to thinking - "Home" can't be accidentally backwards... But it was worth a shot! It just doesn't work. Maybe in 3.0?
  11. But then which will it use - my coordinates or my address? Will the coordinates override the address?
  12. Gotcha. I thought it was a semantics thing - some people calling them "landmarks" and others calling them "buildings"... So what landmarks do we have here in LA to look at on my pretty little screen?
  13. I've had my F90BT for about a week now, and I was jotting down some of my general questions this morning on my way into work... 1. What is the ATT setting do for GPS sound? 2. Is RDS a hardware feature or could they unlock this somehow through software? (Maybe it's up to the mod/hack section to figure this out if it's software...)
  14. Everywhere I look, I can only seem to find information on how to add 3d landmarks via a HACK for the F90BT. This is a touted feature on Pioneer's own website - but I don't seem to have any 3d landmarks... I have looked right at downtown Los Angeles and nothing - just maps. http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/ ... AVIC-F90BT Where do I get these? ...and yes, I have all of the options turned on in Settings.
  15. I don't know if this is a 'hack' or a 'general' question... The AVIC thinks that my house is about 3 houses north of my actual address. This is a problem because it doesn't ever think that I get home! Is there a way to manually change the location of my house on the map but retain all of the address information? This would have to work with the "Return Home" button...
  16. I can't seem to find anything on here already - which REALLY surprises me because it's a pita - but has anybody figured out how to change the bluetooth popup that shows when you are on a call? It blocks the nearby part of the 3d map... Can you: 1. Remove the background altogether and be left with only the onscreen text? 2. Move the text to a better location? 3. Move the onscreen buttons to the side of the screen or somewhere not as 'in-the-way'? 4. Add a "Pause" button to the popup or something to be able to pause the music that you are listening to?
  17. Somebody here should be able to chime in with the name of the bitmap that is used for Sirius then... You can just edit that one to be one big black box, and then the button will technically still be there, but you wouldn't be able to see it, and because you don't actually have that device you wouldn't be able to click/press it, so to you it would be like just not having it there at all. All you need is the filename - something like this: viewtopic.php?f=34&t=17450
  18. You can probably remove both of them altogether (or at least replace the ones you don't want with a solid black image) - but why do you want to do this? They both launch a different application, so you couldn't just combine them and have the new one still accomplish all functionality...
  19. Actually - I just removed my stock Toyota stereo from an 05 Matrix XR and it went to the next sequential song also. It drove me nuts at first... But on that stereo I could just "undo" random and then "redo" it by two quick presses of the button - that took me to the next RANDOM song.
  20. ...you mean to say "Call Doe John" even if it's stored as "John Doe" on the contacts screen? I'll give it a whirl, but that would be REALLY odd...
  21. Yeah, I was thinking about the podcasts, or sermons, or self help stuff... You really do want to pause it. Is there no way to do this when you are on a call? I haven't had my system long enough to know every feature inside and out, but once you're on a call, are you completely STUCK on that call and unable to do anything else? Can you reach down and hit pause on the iPod? I agree with kkant on waiting for what you want. Personally, I wanted RDS, built-in HD tuner, DVD, NON-motorized screen, GPS, bluetooth, CDText, in-dash multi CD/DVD changer, SAT radio ready at least, dual-zone
  22. 1. Yeah - I guess we deal with it. 2. I can't say I've noticed this... 3. I think we resolved this for you in another post? 4. Check the volume not only on the head unit, but also on your phone. There's probably 3 different places on your phone to set volume that would affect this - hands-free volume, call volume, master volume, etc.... 5. Other than the "active iPod" thing (which is objective anyway) - what else is there? I'm a grammar Nazi and nothing's bothering me yet... 6&7. I don't have an iPod - sorry. 8. I have the same issue - I think I'm finding that there may be phones t
  23. Done. Peace of cake (with the above info courtesy of IDT!!) At first, I just tried the coordinates of the clock for the route info stuff and it was too far to the right, so I had to do a little bit of figuring to find out where it SHOULD be. I also didn't know that the compass needle was a different element - I guess I figured that the whole compass was one thing that rotated, but it's not - there's the compass background and the needle that both needed to be moved. In addition to this stuff, I hated how obnoxious the sounds were when you went to the menu and tapped on stuff, so inste
  24. First of all, yes: the unit is slow to bootup. ...But you should really let your car warm up for 30 seconds ANYWAY, right? lol Second, whatever shortcomings this thing might have are almost completely offset by the fact that you can change it how you want. You want a TomTom GUI? Done. You wanna rearrange the buttons? Done. You want different graphics? Done. You wanna change the sounds? Done. You're not going to find this kind of (unsupported) customization on a Kenwood. The bluetooth for me works awesome. People can hear me fine and it just connects to your phone without any intervent
