  1. The firmware update instruction document on Pioneer's site explains how to find what you are running now...something like long-pressing the little tools icon in the upper left of the service information display. It brings up a hidden screen with firmware revision and map data version info.
  2. Also, find the guy and threaten to kick the crap out of him. What was his eBay username?
  3. Actually...follow up question... The X920BT looks like it will only cycle through distance, time, and arrival for the NEXT WAYPOINT, and not any later waypoints or final destination...at least the old D3 (god, I hated that f'ing thing) used to switch between WAYPOINT and FINAL destination data. It appears the only way to see the arrival info for the FINAL destination in a multi-point trip is to bring up the little on-screen mini-menu and tap on the route overview button....this seems to show the checkered-flag, final destination data across the bottom of the screen. Am I missing so
  4. Some (but not all) of the new Pioneers reportedly DO use Parrot, and the connectivity is WAY better than the older units, like the AVIC D3 (god, I hated that POS). The new Sony units look FANTASTIC (see my other post in these forums about that) and are competitive in price on eBay and Amazon. However, they may not have voice-recognition under as many circumstances as the Pioneers presently do. Sony doesn't even advertise that they have it...one has to look in the online manuals to see that they have SOME sport of VR capability, but it's odd.... Still, they are SWEET.
  5. Check all connections again and review settings on iPhone??
  6. Pioneer has NOT been that punctual with updates. For example, the first map data update for the old D3 (god, I hated that thing) came out NINE months into the new year, and they used data that was even older than that. By the time they got the data, verified it, modified it for use with the D3, and released the update, it was worthless...18 month old data. They were not prepared to update new data from the providers. And that update cost about 50% more than competitor's map updates....something that persists with Pioneer.
  7. 1. Did you splice or cut the microphone cable in any way whatsoever? 2. Did you make sure to mount the mic in such a way that there is at least some air BEHIND and around it (i.e., not encased in epoxy, glue, tape, etc.)?
  8. I think by "laggy" he's referring to scrolling through the AV sources, the songs, etc. And yes, that is the case with these units. The reason is that scrolling is always tricky on a RESISTIVE touch screen (which these are). Because resistive touch screens require a bit of physical pressure, it can be tricky to get the right sensitivity to pressure (and the programming) to make scrolling work well. That's why CAPACITIVE screens (e.g., the iPhone) are so much better at quick, responsive things like scrolling. Most devices that use resistive touch screens shy away from scrolling types
  9. All that stuff seems to work fine on the new X920BT I helped my buddy upgrade to. Not sure why you're having issues. On my buddy's X920BT, we do notice the RDS info can take a minute or two to show up while it gets decoded from the analog FM data stream...but it eventually gets there. The navigation seems fine on his unit...very similar to one of the better Tom Tom models...and WAY better than the crappy old AVIC D3 he and I both had...man, the D3 sucked hairy, rotting moose dick.
  10. According to the following site: http://www.pioneer.eu/eur/support/software/AVIC-F900BT/index.html#download_1 Step 1: You MUST download and install the software V2 update according to THESE instructions Step 2: THEN you may download and install software V3 and map V2 according to THESE instructions. Also, here is a person with a similar situation as yours...
  11. Hmmm...I agree the AV screen is a little less modern on the Sonys, but when driving, isn't that what some people would prefer (not saying it's better than the AVICs...just saying less clutter means less to take your attention off the road)? By the way, I just read those Sony's have a feature almost EXACTLY like MusicSphere....Sony calls it SenseIt or something.
  12. Read the manual?!?! What a bogus piece of advice! ;O)
  13. Hmm...dunno. Holy cr-p! You're the FIRST member of these forums?!? I think I just heard trumpets sound...it's like a rare item showing up in a MMORPG.
  14. You DEFINITELY mean iPod [Classic] 4th Gen and *NOT* iPod Nano 4th Gen, correct? If the former, is it running software v2.0.2? If the latter, then it should be working.
  15. JasonH had a car and an in-dash navigation unit in JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL? Did you have your learner's permit?? Aren't people like 13 years old in junior high??!?!?! I had...like...a bicycle in junior high school. Geez...
  16. Interesting. The mystery of "JasonH" starts to unravel. Of course, his replies thus far beg the question...if he's a college student NOW, wasn't he in...like...junior high school when he launched this site five years ago? Early start...?
  17. We disconnected it from the power harness twice in the course of making adjustments to the installation...he says he noticed the problem at least once before and after the second time. However, I don't believe he's done a hardware reset. Good thought. I'll tell him to give it a shot. I wonder if the unit would allow him to re-install the firmware update just to check the corrupt software load theory (which I think is unlikely...)?
  18. Maybe... ...but it's hard to imagine what kind of defect would cause this. A corrupt software load would likely show other glitches as well, not just a delayed message stack pointer issue (which is what I think this is...I wonder what programming language they used?). And it can't be any sort of hardware defect that I can think of. Really odd... I still wanna' see if anyone else chimes in with this issue. Even with my buddy's unit, we're not seeing this frequently...just enough to confirm it's not a one-time error or glitch. We shall see...
  19. UPDATE #3: Holy crap...the Sonys appear to have voice-recognition dialing for phones. Take a look at page 41 of the manual at THIS link... It works if one's cell phone supports Voice Tags, which many do. From what I've read, there are two kinds of voice tagging. One version is when you can record YOURSELF saying your contacts' name and store the snippets as part of the contacts themselves on one's phone. The other kind is when the phone's OS just creates a tag based on the words in the contact name. A Sony online chat rep just seemed to confirm my interpretation.
  20. UPDATE #2: The higher-end Sony is available on eBay for as little as $900! And the smaller screen one is available for as little as $750 or so. Wow...this is getting pretty compelling...
  21. Yeah...we'll see if they live up to the promise and potential here. By the way, I know you've seen me talk in here about how Kenwood decided to use Garmin as their navigation solution. Well...you'll notice Sony went with TomTom for these units. On both cases, my friends and family can get in my car and immediately know how to use these units from the passenger seat (or if they borrow my car). The problem with the Pioneer/iGo/whatever navigation software is that it's so unlike any of the mass-market navigation software that nobody who sat in my car could ever use the D3...and my buddy
  22. Man...looking at the Sony's again... Just realized they come with FREE map updates for the first year, and are something like $80 after that (compared to Pioneer's $120). AND...they have traffic information based on ACTUAL TRAFFIC SPEEDS collected from over 6 million drivers rather than just relying on posted speed limits and traffic reports. They call it "IQ Routes." Sounds a lot like the traffic speed scheme used for the ones made by Dash out in CA. I've been screaming about in-dash units not having ACTUAL traffic speed data for years...they're finally catching up with the possibi

*sigh* Why not bypass the 17 different threads already answering this question on these forums and go right to the step where you crash into a tree because you were illegally watching a DVD while driving?
  24. All: My buddy's X920BT seems to suffer from a delayed message and notification issue that's not a huge deal, but is more of an annoyance. It seems to mostly happen with Bluetooth and phone-related screen messages on the AVIC. For example, if he has a problem connecting his phone using Bluetooth for some reason, he sometimes gives up and goes inside. The next time he comes out to the car and reconnects -- whether it be an hour later or the next morning --, the "successful" connection message is first preceded by an error message ON THE AVIC from the DAY BEFORE that the AVIC never manag
