  1. I'm guessing it didn't work for you because there wasn't enough power, not sure. A typical usb powers at 5 volts, 500 milliamps [i believe], and when you use a hub there is less power to go around. Many [you may be aware of all of this already, sorry] external notebook drives have a funky cable that has one usb male coming from the drive going to a split with two usb males going in to a computer. It has two go in because it wants the power. I tried 3 external notebook drives before I found one that could be powered off a single USB port (on a different pioneer stereo). Now I'm guessing
  2. Yes it does. More precisely it will only support devices from the same type at a time, depending on the selected USB Function Client mode. I'm not sure what you mean here by same 'type'. You mean you can connect two thumb drives but not a thumb drive and ?? [all I can think of is a usb wifi card (but there's no drivers I know for them)]? What other usb device works when connected alone, but not when on a hub with a thumb drive? or what part am I missing here?
  3. I'm unclear on a few facts: >is the iphone capable of the bluetooth 'DUN' profile? (some phones try hard to disable it) >is there anything stopping us from installing the DUN profile on the F-series stereos? With a DUN connection you don't need WIFI to connect the pioneer to your iphone... you can connect via bluetooth with no additional hardware. read the first link and the third it looks: http://www.google.com/search?q=bluetooth+dun alternative answer: GOOGLE IT!!!! <--being sarcastic
  4. Here's what I do know. I hooked my girlfriend up with a pioneer deh-7900bt stereo 2 years ago. It has bluetooth and was usb ready. I coughed up $100 for the usb box. I found an external notebook drive that had a low enough power consumption requirement to run straight off the USB cable (which isn't as common as it sounds). I think it was a 120 gig. Then I learned the USB boxs limit was 80 gigs(??) something like that. No problem, the 120 gig still worked, I didn't mind losing the space. Next, I learned a relatively low mp3 count caused the stereo to lag horribibly.. taking several m
  5. It looks the WINCE drivers for the WL250N-USB Wireless-N are not freely downloadable. I'll try to find another. Random thought: Will the F-Series WINCE OS see two USB sticks if a powered(or not powered) USB Hub is used? (could probably put the sdio card on the USB via an adapter, and also have a usb stick or portable laptop drive on the other and still have the sd card slot free)
  6. get the hell out of my thread. I've probably done more searches and helped more people on the net in 1995 then you've done in your life. You are exactly what this thread is not about. I don't need to know you.
  7. huh, it crossed my mind to google '802.11n wince' and I found this http://www.ambicom.com/prod_detail.php? ... 0Solutions wonder what their return policy is any reason this item shouldn't work even though it has drivers for wince? (802.11N is important to me because if we're going to sync with my car in the driveway we'll need the range N provides)
  8. I haven't bought my F series unit yet. I was just about to finally order a refurbished F90bt moments before saw his post and got a large spike of buyers anxiety. I love these F Series and Don't trust them. These fit the profile of a pain in the arse hackable device, much like a vx6700 wince phone I had a few years ago.. it could do everything.. really slowly and entirely unreliable. At point blank: Are these units an unreliable pain in the ass if you don't hack them? Cause I could live with that and back off the hacking if needed be. Anyone?? I really want to get one. I'd like t
  9. I almost brought up the eye-fi and how it was NOT a solution, but pondered, because that would be two mute points I made. I was trying to figure out if the eye-fi could be used as a wireless card, but it looks like it can't, though I'm just short of conclusive on figuring that out. I'd like to get a USB 802.11N[/N] stick to work with the F Series. I don't imagine there are a whole lot of USB wifi sticks with WINCE drivers though (think about it). I'm hoping to figure out an angle to discover a generic driver the works with some USB stick. Unfortunately, I've had problems being bril
  10. did you put 3.0 in there? You got me nervous--I'm about to buy an f90bt. how long have you had your unit, and what is it doing that is making you so mad? edit: I just read your posts about the scan, volume, etc buttons staying down and that you did the 3.0 update. People, are these kinda problems typical for these units after the 3.0 update? I'm focusted on getting the f90 or f900, but I don't want a stereo that will drive me crazy and get me killed. anyone share their honest opinions on problems (especially people plan to keep theirs, but will admit any short commings)?
  11. where'd you get it? I saw one place that claims to have them new for $450, but they look totally scammy. no ratings.. wanted western union, but seemed to take paypal.
  12. I remember back 5+ years ago I saw sdio cards (sd wifi cards) WITH built in memory. I went googling for them and came up pretty much empty handed. I did see this model: http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Connect-2 ... roduct_top It's 256 megs and 802.11b in 2003. DON"T GET THIS CARD. It is very old with old drivers and not 802.11g. I'm just showing it to show there are or were sdio cards with built in memory. It may be a mute point because I can't find any, it looks they went the way of the dodo as pocket pcs did.
  13. Eye-Fi is a special SD card that has wifi. It is made for digital cameras. It automatically connects to your network and uploads the pictures from your camera to a computer on your network when in range. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eye-Fi I'm looking for something that does the same thing, but in reverse: something that grabs mp3s from a folder on your network and downloads them to the card. One of these would let me drop MP3s in a folder from home using a laptop, and watch them show up on the sd card in my pioneer. Eye-Fi doesn't make one that works in reverse. The solution
  14. My first random wantonly asked question that could blow up in my face is: Using the USB connection on the F900BT, how many MP3s can the unit read before getting sluggish? Based on similar situations in the past I know the sluggishness is caused by the count of mp3s not the space usage. For example, 100 MP3s that have a file size of 20 megs loads up just as fast as 100 MP3s that have a file size of 3 megs. The number of MP3s make the 'list' longer that the F900BT has to load up. The longer the list the bigger the lag until the lag makes the stereo unusable. Do we know about how man
  15. I'm the quick study type; I have been that with many things for a long time. The downside about being a quick study is I can figure out many complex things quickly, but rack up a slew of--largely--remedial and some complex questions that google fails me (unless I spend 30 min to figure out each yes or no question like, say, if the x series uses the same software as the f series) So I'm making this thread for 'noobs' ask quid-quo-pro tempo questions. And having read about 400 pages and watched 20 youtube videos in the last ten days I can lead with a slew of questions You'll surely see my
  16. You are correct, I mis-spoke. When I called I asked about the F900/x910 and thought we were talking about the F900BT the moment I wrote that. Sorry. I do that time to time.
  17. Thanks for the concise spot-on answer. That leads to a another question I never figured out.: Is the higher voltage output important? Is it trivial or significant? is it worth, say, $40 more if I plan to put in a decent amp? I never figured out how it could improve things.
  18. The DVD player is supposed to be quieter than in the F700 according to a Pioneer tech on the 800 number. The knob is different.
  19. How did you go through 4 of them? were you bricking them via software or simple hardware failure or what?
  20. I can't figure out the differences between the two. As far as I can tell the F90BT is Premier with a 2 year warranty instead of 1, has the word 'Premier' on the bottom of it and that's it. Are there any other differences? like does the F90BT have higher quality circuits or something? I'm inclined to just get the F900BT because the word 'Premier' on the stereo might just get the stereo stolen faster. Anyone know the differences? got any thoughts?
  21. I plan to hook the mute button up to my steering wheel. Will grounding the mute wire to perform this mod mess up my ability to mute the stereo with my steering wheel button? If not, what do I do? Do I tee the wire, ground one and have the other go to the steering wheel??
  22. I'm wondering if a USB to SD adapter would allow the sdio card (SD/wifi card) to be used through the pioneer's rear usb cable, freeing up the front sd slot. The adapters are widely available; i believe I just saw them at Office Depot for $9.99.
  23. 160 km/hour is 99.41939 miles/hour so there shouldn't be too much problem. On the other hand, if the one time you were really really in a hurry it would suck to watch your gps lock up
  24. I'm very happy to read your post! I'm still shopping for an F-series unit right now, but I'll be playing with the wifi option in the future. Specifically, I'd like to install a software app that will keep an mp3 folder synced with a folder on my home network ... so I can just drop mp3s in to a folder at home using a laptop and have them appear on the pioneer's sd car. And/or install a podcast agregator on the pioneer so I can get fresh podcasts autosynced. It would be nice if there were an sd card with 802.11n wifi, but I don't see any on the web. P.S. I'd be good if someone you)
  25. Is this expected to work on the f700bt and f900bt models?
