  1. Maybe my frustration is getting the best of me, but you mean to tell me you are satisfied with a mapping display that will not display any further out than a mile on screen?? I cannot believe you would be happy with that. The problem is, the mapping software sees an exit every mile and will not expand any further than that! If you have exits every 5 miles, then it will expand out further. But there is no setting that will allow you to bypass that unless you manually expand the view...then all sorts of crap on the screen and it will not keep you centered in the map. I can't believe anyone
  2. No, they don't work worth a crap. You just don't know it because you didn't research it as well as you thought you did. You live in a community of barely 100,000 people. Go to a place with a few million and lots of feeder freeways and come back and tell us just how well they work. If you want to be able to see 2 miles in front of you (that's right...I said TWO!) you can't do it. Expanding the setting out as far as they will go may not give you a mile. So you pinch the map out and it fills the screen with crap and your location is no longer centered on the map...it will scroll right off i
  3. Yep...sucks big time. The navigation piece isn't bad. But the way the maps are displayed is beyond belief and acceptability. I am thinking hard about going to a 4100NEX and adding the U250/260 nav unit to it. But I need to see the maps first. Of course, the the 4100, I could always use Android Auto or Mirrorlink and use my phone. Right now, if I need maps, I have to use Waze on my phone. The maps on the 8000 are worthless.
  4. It's the worst mapping software I have ever seen in a big city. It will only zoom out about a mile (unless you do it manually, then it won't track and fills the screen with crap). Hell, I CAN SEE A MILE!!!! And in many cases, it doesn't give the name of the street until you are practically on top of it. Worst I have ever experienced.
  5. Can someone please tell me what mapping software (database) the 8000 uses? Is it Navteq? Or something else? I can't tell you how much I hate that piece of the unit, so I'm looking at alternatives. Just want to make sure what I'm looking at. Thanks in advance for your help!
  6. If you read the thread, you will see my opinion of the maps. For me, it's a deal breaker and I'm going to do something about it...including considering going back to a Z series. The maps in that are so superior. However, the NEX series is superior in every other way...especially Bluetooth. No comparison there. Navigation is about the same for either with a slight nod to the Z series because it's not so annoying. But the NEX navigation is still pretty darn good.
  7. If there's a setting, I can't find it and Pioneer doesn't know about it. I would love to hear it.
  8. Waze zooms in and out great! So does Google maps. I'm not sure what problem you are having there. I've tried various mirroring apps for my phone so I could use those maps, but unfortunately, all the apps reduce the screen size of the maps...which kind of defeats the purpose. Android Auto shows promise, but you have to upgrade to the 8100 or 8200 to get it...and if I spend money on anything, it won't be on a Pioneer. It will be something that gives me the mapping software I want. The maps in all my AVIC-Z* units all zoomed in and out manually without any loss of function. Impossible on t
  9. you guys are happy with the maps?? I have an 8000 and it's the worst mapping software I have ever laid eyes on. Navigation has always been fine. But the maps...oh my #@#$R#@ GOD!! Try starting down the freeway and expand out so you can see the highway and what's ahead in 10 miles. Unless I have a defective unit, cannot be done. If you expand the map, it throws a bunch of junk on the screen and does not follow you. I've never seen anything like it and I'm going another route because of it. I KNOW WHAT'S A MILE IN FRONT OF ME PIONEER! I CAN SEE THAT FAR!!! Sorry for the rant...
  10. Let me think about that one for a bit and see if I can come up with a solution for you. You know, you might be better off just wiring it direct to the battery and using some sort of voltage monitor to cut it off once your voltage falls below a certain point. I need to think about this for a bit.
  11. You battery back up is a very easy solution. You can buy 5V voltage regulators all over Amazon. Good ones. Some are designed to supply power to a USB port for charging. I would be shocked if you pay over $10 US. Next, purchase a TR7 relay...also available from Amazon. Simply program it to delay shut down to your voltage regulator for a few minutes and you are good to go. You wire constant battery power to the relay. You then wire an ignition source to the relay. Then program the relay to supply power to the regulator any time it sees ignition voltage, and to delay power shut off after
  12. I'll have to see if he has any. Of course, I can't post any pics here...and the other options are such a pain in the ass.
  13. I think the Android stick is a very viable solution to a lot of things...it just has to have GPS to make it work with a lot of things. I'll get that happens soon. My son integrated a Samsung tablet into his CTS-V. We put in a premium amplifier so whatever he listens to through it sounds incredible. He has a ton of apps that offer so much. He can use Google Maps, or whatever else he finds available...but he pretty well sticks with Waze. It would take me a couple of days to explain all this thing will do. And it it totally integrated with the vehicle. Turns on and off with the ignitio
  14. Let me ask you guys this. What is the difference between AppRadio, and Mirrorlink? Won't Mirrorlink do everything you are after? Project your phone to your screen, allow the use of steering wheel controls, sound system, etc? It seems to me that is a very viable solution to this. After reading about all the issues people are having with Siri and Carplay, it looks like you better not count on that feature to be seamless...or even usable in some situations.
  15. I've done that. It doesn't do what you think it does. It does not change the aspect ratio at all. All it does is cut off or open up how much of it you can see. I've got it wide open...and it still doesn't change the height of the image. I'm like you...I thought that was the answer. But it didn't fix a thing. Makes me wonder if it's the phone or not.
  16. Let me ask you guys this. I currently have APR Unchained Reloaded on an older Droid Maxx connected with HDMI and USB. I get a screen that is greatly compressed on the top and bottom. (about a half to 3/4 inch of unused screen top and bottom) I would love to include a picture, but I'm not allowed to insert any photos. Hopefully you understand what I'm talking about. Is this what I should expect out of all Android phones using AR Unchained? Or is it my phone? Or a setting I can't find? I am about to swallow a bitter pill and go with an iPhone because every single demo I see with them sh
  17. Waze uses the GPS data from your phone. As does Google Maps. AppRadio simply projects the results (the nav map) to your head unit. What APR Unchained Reloaded does, is allow the GPS antenna of the head unit be used for the app. (If you have Reloaded, it already comes with the GPS transfer software) However, what I was told by Area51 was Pioneer does not allow that transfer to take place. Here is information I received when I inquired about purchasing the app for using GPS from the headunit: That app is not to be used with the Reloaded app as it is already included. However it only
  18. Unfortunately, I think you may find yourself very disappointed there. After talking to Area51 (the ARU Reloaded developer), Pioneer does not allow the transfer of GPS data from their unit to the phone (or Android stick in this case) That blows this option right out of the water for me as I really need to be able to use Waze or Google Maps. Now, if they were to include GPS capablilities with a stick, they would really get my attention!!
  19. I have to admit...that really surprises me.
  20. I got my hands on an old Droid Maxx with HDMI and was able to finally get it rooted. That was a chore all it's own. If we hadn't been able to view the .bat file used, we never would have. It kept looking for files that weren't where they were supposed to be, issued commands my pc wasn't able to execute, etc etc. I was able to add the software to my pc that was needed for the commands, and we were able to build a path the program required. Finally, we had to go into the file structure of the phone and add a file it kept looking for. It finally rooted successfully. I installed AR Unchaine
  21. Wow! Thank you for the great info! A couple things I didn't realize. One, you can run Waze on your iphone and Nex if you are using AppRadio Live instead of Carplay...if I understood everyone correctly. Two...you can have Google Maps on your iPhone?? I didn't realize this was possible due to the hatred between the two companies. If you can have Google Maps and Waze, will Chrome run on it as well? That may be a stretch... I've just about made up my mind. Right now, I'm down to a Samsung S5 and an iPhone 6.
  22. One other question... Let's say I'm using Maps with Carplay on my iPhone and I want to listen to Sirrius/XM radio at the same time. I can do that with an Android phone attached...Pioneer has a way for that to happen. You can actually listen to just about any other a/v source and still use AppRadio. Can you do the same with Carplay?
  23. It's very disappointing how they limit the apps you can use. So I take it Waze won't work? It sounds like AR Unchained Reloaded and Android is the best way to go if you want the most flexibility. I did look online at Apple Maps and they do appear to be a huge upgrade to what we get on the Nex. Man...that software is just pathetic. I assume (and that could be a huge ass mistake) that an iPhone 8 with iOS 8 will work with the Nex 8000 (with firmware update)? And does anyone know what connection cable will be used? Lightning, USB, ?? Thanks again folks. Since I'm going to b
  24. Folks, do these all play well together? I am looking at trying out an iPhone 6 (yea...I know...I can't believe it either) I have been using ARU Reloaded with an Android phone and it works...but it's now what I would call seamless. I think that Pioneer caters to iPhone, so I have a feeling Carplay will work better for me. Besides, I hated losing my voice activated phone from my Z2. (incredibly stupid Pioneer) What about things like iHeart radio, Sirrius, etc? Do those work with the iPhone and Carplay? Thanks in advance for your input.
  25. That is good to know. But I don't know how you would keep your phone from updating. Anymore, it's pushed to you and you either allow the update or put up with their annoying warnings forever it seems.
