  1. Here's the deal. You don't need the Pioneer app to use Pandora on your Z120/X series. You just need to start the actual Pandora app and then connect to your radio. Pandora built in the code for connecting to Pioneer and Alpine HU's. True it has to be running to display the info on the screen, but unlike the Pioneer app, you don't have to unplug and replug in the iPhone to get it to work, just relaunch the app.
  2. Worked great for me. In fact I removed the Pandora Link app and am just using Pandora and it works fine. Looks like Pandora built in the link functionality into the main Pandora app.
  3. Thanks for this tip. I am going to try this out on my way home. Pandora actually created Pandora Link for Pioneer and Alpine, but have been really slow to update them. I am thinking that they will start moving the functionality into the main Pandora app and do away with this cludgy mess we have now. At any rate, good find.
  4. Check out the sound staging option. When I turn this on one of the profiles, it redirects most of the sound to the front speakers. This threw me off a while back when I installed the z. Turn this off and you should get rear sound back.
  5. I did my z120 upgrade over the patch level you listed and had no issues. You may have a problem with your unit. The other thing you can try to do a full reset of the system, IE remove negative lead from battery and reconnect it after a few mins, and do a Reset Unit from the z itself to return it to factory and then try the update. Keep in mind that this will delete some of your settings.
  6. Yeah the way this needs to be done is, you insert the first card which does the Maps and operational software update. You then go to bluetooth settings with the first card still inserted and start a firmware update to 3.10. After that is done, you insert the second card and go back to bluetooth settings and select Firmware Update and it will update the unit to 3.11. The second card does not start up automatically since this is just the Bluetooth firmware update which is always done manually. Please post back if you have trouble. Good luck.
  7. Here is my setup Z110 updated to Z120, i4 of course running iOS4. I start Pandora Link first and once it is all the way running I connect it to the z. I then always get the Album artwork and am able to switch to iPod/AM/FM and back to Pandora and still have the artwork. What does not work is when I take a call. At that point you have to disconnect and start Pandora Link again and reconnect. This can be solved by Pioneer by making the Pandora Link iOS4 compliant and using the background audio API's or some of the other API's to reconnect after a call. BTW, I suspect that Pandora Link w
  8. It is. The difference is that the Kenwood knows how to sort the contacts right and the Z does not, or ignores it. I would like to see Pioneer fix this.
  9. I can tell you from testing that this became a problem in ios4. I am an iPhone dev and had access to all of the betas. Early on with ios4 I noticed that no matter how I sorted my contacts on my iPhone, that the z with the original software would default to Last Name/First Name. This did not change with the introduction of the i4 and the z120. Right now I am using the i4 with a z110 updated to a 120 and the only big I can find with iPhone interoperability is the contacts sort order. Otherwise it is rock solid. I dont know if this is really considered a bug per se'. What would be really gre
  10. Now that alot of us have purchased the z110 -> z120 update software, where do we look for future updates. In the z120 section or the z110 section of pioneers site?
  11. With the $200 update to turn the z110 into the z120 I have read that there are some Bluetooth updates with it. Since iOS 4 came out for the iPhone, I have found that there is no way to sort contacts in the phonebook on the z by first name and have them displayed first name then lastname. For those with an iOS 4 device (iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4) who have updated their z to be a z120, is this issue fixed or does the z still show contacts in Lastname, Firstname order?
  12. Today I am thinking of moving my mic from the steering column to an empty button cover in my dash. My idea is that I am going to drill a hole in the cover and mount the mic behind so that the element of the mic just sticks out a little bit and looks like part of the dash. Has anyone had experience doing this or otherwise partially obscuring the mic due to mounting location? I am wondering if things are going to sound really bad on the other end of conversations.
  13. iOS 4 actually fixed this, amongst other things. The iPhone 3GS and 4 work very well with the z's now.
  14. To answer the op's question. Yes the z110bt works great with the iPhone 4, even if you have not applied the z110bt to z120bt update to the hu. In fact with iOS4 on an iphone 3gs or iphone 4, all of the bugs that existed before seem to be squashed. It's almost like someone on the iOS team owns a z
  15. Wanted to update and say that the release of iOS4 today works perfectly with the z110. Any of the little bugs in the beta firmwares have been fixed in the final. Things the iPhone firmware improves: - album artwork is hires - indexing is real quick and doesent demand long reindexes over and over - authorization failures fixed - quick info refresh - quick album artist genre linking If you have and iPhone or iPod touch, get this update. You will be happy you did.
  16. I think the problem is they have other components in place when they test it. What happens is that they release it to the public without those files. I bet it is a hidden file that is needed. We shall see.
  17. Update. I just talked to a Pioneer rep and they have an email going around that the newer update should be posted by tonight. He said to be safe check it in the morning.
  18. Anyone know if the file has been updated yet?
  19. The VA-133 from Pioneer is not so great of a fit. Check the Metra link I posted in the linked thread in the previous post. This fits perfect in MkIV VW's.
  20. Have MSN with my z110bt, it is all activated and I am in a market with a strong signal. I find that most if not all of our major roads here in SLC, IE Rt.15, Rt.215, Rt.80 show the MSN traffic lines right beside the actual road instead of being overlaid directly on top of the road displayed. I first thought that this was due to frontage roads, but it happens even when there are no frontage roads. Anyone else seen this happen?
  21. Check out http://documents.victorytechnologies.com//documents/product/16348.pdf. This is the manual to the kit you would use to give you more of a visual. I hate Crutchfield as their info seems to always be inaccurate. They said my Dub was single din and it clearly is double din with install kits available for it. Good luck with your install.
  22. I used one from Audi/VW on my VW Golf. The antenna had industry standard FAKRA SMB connectors for GPS, Sat Radio, FM, GSM. I could not find the adapters out there not because they don't exist, but more because I did not have time. I ended up doing a coax splice from the shark fin to the Pioneer wire (after I removed the GPS puck antenna from it). Performance is great and everything is clean and integrated. Search and I bet you will find an adapter. Worst case coax solder/splice like me. Just make sure if you go that route that you are good with a solder gun. Also have an ohmmeter handy and tes
  23. Sorry for the delay in doing my writeup, I have been very busy. MkIV Double DIN Radio Install (Sorry for the lack of pictures. I didn't have my camera when doing the install) Note. These are the steps I took to install this stereo in my car and is quite involved, but does produce a beautiful finished product. Install Items Used - Z110BT - Metra trim kit http://www.metraonline.com/products.aspx?s=95-9012 - Canbus interface of your choice. I used http://pac-audio.com/productDetails.aspx?ProductId=278&CategoryID=26 - Euro antenna adapter for VW (Available at an audio in
  24. Yup vr takes 7 mins to do a full 6000+ song update and subsequent updates are instant no matter if the iPhone is on or off when plugging it in. The only problems I have seen is a significant delay when hitting the shuffle all button. All in all though a great update!
  25. OS4.0 works great with the Z110BT. Per my thread on it, it fixes the pixelated artwork issue, the long vr times and general inconsistency there and adds full iTunes control while also allowing control from the head unit. This is going to be a great iphone os update.
