Just an update. It was the ipod video that went bad. There is a manufacturing defect in video ipods. the sound stopped playing out of both the dock connector and the headphone jack. Called up apple, even though it's 4 years outta warranty, they paid to ship it back next day air, and I got a "new" refurbished one in 4 days. Not bad.

I have a d3 with the bypass done. I downloaded the update dvd and just stuck it in the drive. Updated with no problems.

I have a weird problem, the ipod connection in my wife's vehicle stopped working a week ago. When the ipod is hooked up, the d3 sees it and i can scroll through the songs, etc, but no sound is played. Same for a video file. It's been working fine for over a year now. She still gets sound from the sirus tuner and regular radio. I'll take it apart today and inspect the cables since i've already tried resetting the ipod and unit. Any other ideas i might be missing?
