GM Illumination Voltage Reversal
joe.smith replied to joe.smith's topic in AppRadio, AppRadio 2, AppRadio 3
I just wanted to close the loop on this thread and archive the solution: I finally found a positive parking voltage I could tap into within the passenger compartment. It's on the Relay Block I/P, which is located by the driver's kick panel. You can find the necessary signal on C10 or D10 of the connector block. Joe -

It would be a PNP transistor, though, right? Joe -
GM Illumination Voltage Reversal
joe.smith replied to joe.smith's topic in AppRadio, AppRadio 2, AppRadio 3
That's what I was thinking about doing, only I was going to use a general purpose relay to do it. A solid state device would be a more reliable choice, long term, though... Joe -
GM Illumination Voltage Reversal

My apologies for taking it the wrong way. That's the problem with the Internet - you lose a sense of someone's tone/intent with the words. Anyway, I now understand your statement. Yes, there are different profile settings for day/night brightness levels. My user manual for the AppRadio 4 states explicitly, however, that the brightness level will automatically change only if the 'night' brightness level is below the 'day' level. So, I couldn't get that work-a-round working. Incidentally, I talked to Pioneer Tech Support today and they confirmed that illumination polarity is not a user c -
GM Illumination Voltage Reversal
joe.smith replied to joe.smith's topic in AppRadio, AppRadio 2, AppRadio 3
Does it matter? Are you asking "does it matter" that I don't want a bright screen shinning in my face at night? Maybe you're asking, "does it matter" that I don't want a dim one I can't see in the daytime. Or, are you asking "does it matter" because I can just set both day/night modes to the same brightness level, essentially negating a feature of the radio? To that end, what level should I set the brightness? Really bright all the time or really dark, or at an unsatisfactory level for both day and night? Or maybe I can just adjust the brightness level every time I get into my vehicle. "Does i -
I just installed the AppRadio 4 in my 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 and was twisting my brain out trying to figure out why my backlit display brightens when the parking/head lights are on, and dims when parking/head lights are out. This is the opposite of what should happen. After pulling out my voltmeter and checking the factory wiring manual, I finally realized my vehicle 'grounds' the parking lights wire to turn them on (obviously to engage the relay in the engine compartment). It appears the AppRadio 4 expects there to be 12VDC on the illumination line when the lights are on. Has anyone else en

iGo and AVIC APL clocks off by 1 hour?
joe.smith replied to FourG's topic in Problems/Troubleshooting
I just wanted to follow-up on this thread: I fixed my issue with the FL timezone. I modified tzinfo.bin --> (4E5E: 8F). This set the timezone to eastern for my part of the state. Cheers! Joe -
iGo and AVIC APL clocks off by 1 hour?
joe.smith replied to FourG's topic in Problems/Troubleshooting
I wouldn't say it's a Portland, OR thing any longer. I live in Orlando, FL and have been experiencing this issue. No matter what I do, AV.exe is an hour off from EZRider, which has the correct time. My problems started when I traveled into the Central time zone and back home again. Joe -
Are you serious? Did you even try the search feature? Joe
-
Hmm, I did a search on the following criteria: "map updates" 910bt and got plenty of hits. Of course, you would have of siphon through it to find what you want, but isn't that part of the fun of having access to this wealth of knowledge? Yeah, it takes some work but he's the one in search of the information, isn't he?... Joe

Mitch, You need to take the time to search this forum. There is a plethora of information concerning your very question and there's really no need to repeat it here... Joe -

It's safe to unzip the entire DATA.ZIP archive!!!
joe.smith replied to joe.smith's topic in Hacks/Mods
Really?! Odd I haven't found anything on this forum stating that Windows CE has a problem with extended attributes in ZIP archives. I even had trouble searching for this specific issue outside of this forum. Well, at least the information is on here now for the next novice to find with a search. Having this knowledge prior would have saved me a WHOLE bunch of trouble! Joe -
Hey guys! I've read on this forum countless times NOT TO unzip (inflate) the entire DATA.ZIP archive, modify file(s) in it, then zip (deflate) the entire archive back. The recommended procedure is to view the contents in WinRar or WinZip, make the the change(s) in Notepad, and save from there. If not, bad things would happen. Initially, I tried this anyway because I'm a Mac OS X user and don't have WinRar or WinZip. I can tell you that bad things DID happen. This situation always bothered me... Well, after spending a lot of time with Zip and learning some lessons from here: http:/

Let me know if you still need guidance; I just make the linear compass change only to my unit. Joe

This is odd indeed. On my AVIC-X910BT after I reset the device and go to my GPS map, I can see that all of the satellites are red. After time, some turn to yellow, and after more time, most turn green. I thought this meant that the AVIC is receiving the GPS signal from the satellites shown, only the confidence in the signal isn't optimum for that particular satellite (red or yellow status). When the satellite turns green, the confidence is high. Sometimes, when a satellite is about to go out of range, the confidence level never reaches green. The colors - red, yellow, green - make this seem in

I'm curious, do any of your satellites ever show up green? Joe
-
Did you ever find the location/file for the linear compass mod only? Joe
-
Recoil, No mods, you say? Hmm, is the AVIC rebooting with the SD installed? If it had previously been left in, what are the results with it disconnected? Try cutting power but leave the AVIC turned on if the problem persists... (I just wanted to say that. ) Joe

William, Not sure if this will help, but it's something to munch on: when I had a car with a Bose sound system, I discovered the line impedance was 2 ohms. Unfortunately, most non-Bose sound systems work on 4-8 ohm line impedance. There are line adpaters that allow you to match the two impedances. Could this be causing you issues? Oh, and the Bose sound system I had happened to be in a Nissan, as well - 1992 300ZX Twin Turbo! Like I said, I'm not sure if this will help... Joe

I'm curious, did you even try to use the forum search function?...
-
Ah, so this is normal behavior? Let me check the setting the next time I'm in the truck...

I must say, I've noticed this problem with my AVIC-X910BT, as well. It seems to occur when a major junction is coming up. Joe

Mr. Nice Guy, I see that no one has really answered your question. Saying that you did the software hack on a Mac running Parallels or Fusion isn't truly doing it on a Mac - you're still doing the hack in a Windows environment, which happens to run on a Mac. I'm a pure Mac user and avoid using a PC as much as I can (I don't personally own a PC). However, I can see people's reservations as this isn't a general computer help forum. I'm not going to give you a step-by-step on the Mac environment but I will tell you this, learning Macs is pretty intuitive. If you need to know what "Finder" is
