  1. Figured it out - The rear speaker negative wires had not been connected. I connected them and VOILA the buzz goes away completely. Sweet
  2. the hum gets worse when I turn on the headlights - if that helps. And the headlights trigger the illumination....
  3. Reinstall today in my new Audi, so I know the head unit is fine. When I set the Power Antenna setting to Antenna, I get a hum in the rear, but the speakers and sub actually work. If I turn it off, and play the iPod, I only get front speakers, but no hum. Bazooka powered sub is tapped into the rear speakers - grounded pretty well. Also added in the Bluetooth adapter if that matters. Any ideas on where to start? Does it sound like a ground problem, or a voltage wire in the wrong place problem? Thanks!
  4. Actaully - I'm talking about the AM.FM antenna. Audis and VW's have proprietary plugs which require an adapter - and they are notorious for not fitting tight. Yes - the cage fits directly into the faceplate and the whole assembly slides right in....
  5. Hey dude- I installed the D3 in my 04 A4 recently - there are some tips here that you will find useful. In addition to this you should know: 1. you will have to tap directly into a headlight lead to get the illumination to work - or use a workaround found here in the forum 2. if you buy the faceplate I did [search for a picture] you should cut off the ends of the tabs that lock it in place - if you don't you'll NEVER get it out again. In fact - the fit is extremely tight. 3. you WILL need an avic-d2 cage to do this install. 4. You can run the rear leads directly into the rear amp [
  6. Thanks for the head's up. I have hired a professional, mobile installer who's coming to the house next Friday to install. He's charging me $250 complete, which isn't gonna break the bank and will keep me from busting something up. I'll make sure he knows about the brackets being riveted to the Symphony stereo. Thanks for the help! For what it's worth - Abes of Maine delivered my AVIC-D3 in a few days from order - it was $849. Very satisfied... KB
  7. Good info so far.... What I got is what's in the picture. Someone told me that there are mounting brackets on the side of the Symphony stereo I'm taking out, that I will need to screw into the side of the D3 - and that solves the mounting issue. I'd be curious as to whether or not people here who have done this agree. Good to hear the Avic Trim Ring will work with this kit and make for a nice clean fit..... Is it absolutely necessary to use the speed wire?
  8. this is it - Looks like I'll either be fabbing mounts out of something, or buying a cage. Does the trim ring that comes with the AVIC work - or did you have to fab one of those out as well?
  9. AGRO- Well it's factory. The factory radio is double-din sized, yes? It takes up the whole top of the dash. What I meant was that my dash kit needs to be modified to accept a double din radio. Do you think there will be a cage in the dash I can re-use - or do I need a whole new one? Thanks! KB
  10. Hey dude - this is exactly what I'm trying to pull off. Do you happen to have an itemized list of stuff they used for the install? I'm wondering if I need a cage.... Also - do you mind telling us how much the install was? I'm debating whether or not to do this myself, or get it done... Looks awesome. Thanks! KB
  11. Hey all- I'm collecting the pieces necessary to do this install, and just received the dash kit from Crutchfield today [details for reference below] and am wondering if the AVIC-D3 will come with a cage? This appears to be the only thing else I'd need - if I even need one. I've seen things about getting a D2 cage - and if that's something I need - please let me know where I can get one quickly. I'm hoping to do the install later in the week. My AVIC D3 shipped today so I don't have the box yet..... thanks! AVICD3 - Abes of Maine $849 + 22 shipping Dash Kit - Crutchfield $34.99
