1. I JUST received shipment notification from 6th Avenue that at least part of my order shipped. I ordered on Monday the 3rd, and considering they told me they were expecting a shipment sometime this week, that doesn't seem to bad. Now the question is what will be in the shipment!
2. The last thing I want to do is challenge your smart ass supremacy! ;)
3. As long as he has a Z1 at least. :)
4. Because Crutchfield really pushes the DIY aspect, their fitment guide makes things as simple as possible. Technically the opening in your car is not designed to receive a headunit that uses the DIN style mounting method, so they say it won't work. In reality, it will work just fine, but you'll need to either purchase a double DIN install sleeve, or use the included mounting brackets to ISO mount the Z1 in your dash.
5. Oops, that was me, I forgot I cleared my cookies (is there anyway we can force a login to reply?).
6. Has anyone heard anything about a replacement for the ND-BT1? I've heard a few rumblings that Pioneer is going to replace this module, although I have no idea what the changes will be.
7. Sounds like the Z1 uses the same connector as Nokia mics, which are relatively high quality. I've got one laying around that I'll try out if the factory mic doesn't get the job done (hopefully that's the weakest link and not internal hardware).
8. Your post got me thinking, so I spent a little more time researching that retailer, and here is what I found. Start by reading these reviews, and pay particular attention to the one by PeterGould, he has some really good info. This is definitely a case of if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is.
9. Well that's certainly not what I was expecting for, but as long as it is usable, the integration will be worth it. Do you have a link or more information about mic swap that ruined a unit?
10. I ordered mine from them and it's not in stock. Maybe they took it down because they already have too many back orders for it?
11. Did you find the sound quality better with your Parrot kit, or are you just talking about the functionality, pairing and phone book sharing? So long as I sound clear to the other person, and I can hear them, I think I'll be pretty happy.
12. It goes where ever you have room for it. There is a molded in cable with connector that is plugged into the back of the Z1, but it can be mounted a ways away if you don't have space next to the headunit in the dash.
13. Okay, so the camera is essentially always on based on switched 12v power, and you can either call it up manually, or set it to switch to that input automatically if a reverse lead is connected to the harness. That makes perfect sense, and get me even more excited to have this thing installed!
14. That almost looks too good to be true. Based on my experience with electronics, margins are typically around 50%, which means $1370 would be a loss for that retailer. Let us know if you decide to do it though, that could be a good resource for board members.
15. Hmm, so it requires a hard trigger to enable the camera, I'm surprised by that. From an integration standpoint it would be a lot better if the backup view was automatically enabled when shifting into reverse, but then could be called up at anytime through the menu for towing.
16. Alpine was the first to offer mobile navigation, and their newest nav computer has some great features. It also has some drawbacks, so it just depends on what features you value the most. The Zagat guide is nice if you like food and find yourself in new areas frequently, but it's the 2003 version, so it's probably outdated, and my taste in food has never seemed to match up with Zagat very much. The biggest issue I had with the 872 (when paired with the IVA-W200 which is the equivilant of the Z1) is the Bluetooth integration. That's one of the biggest selling points of the Z1 in my
17. Do those of you that have a rattle have your Z1 installed ISO mounted, or did you use a DIN sleeve? I've found that the DIN sleeve will rattle if the screen is tilted out on most double DIN pieces. I'm not sure if that's the problem or not, but you can test that theory by putting your finder under the screen to isolate the source of the rattle.
18. I haven't received my V1 yet, so I don't know what to expect from the VR and voice quality on calls, but I have to think on a device like this, that highlights the voice command as a main feature they would have used a relatively high quality mic. If it works as well as the OEM system in my Acura I'll be thrilled, and that's the benchmark I'm aiming for.
19. I'm curious how the Z1 handles the back up camera issue. Does it automatically switch to that input when it detects a signal on the composite connector, or do you make a connection in the wiring harness to a backup lead? I just ordered the first camera above, so I'll report on how it works once I get my Z1 (6Ave is saying it will ship next week). I would like to be able to make use of the tow view feature, and I'm worried that won't work if the camera isn't energized all the time.
