  1. I found a solution, and it's so simple. I removed all apps from the recent used list, and powered off the phone. Hold the power button until the swipe to shutoff appears, then wait a minute. Hit the power button again. After that, it worked like normal, at least for my drive this morning.

I have to remember to reboot the iPhone after updates, this is not the first time I have had issues after an update that were solved with a reboot.

  2. Yep, me too. And then I can't switch to the iPhone music without doing so from the phone. I have also lost pause, it says paused but keeps playing. Previously Pandora and aha radio were problematic, only working when they felt like it. Now they have taken over because if I bring up the Pandora app and close it, aha radio opens up. I might delete them both and then see how it behaves.

  3. Was this an SD card you have previously used in your system? What size is the card? Do you have another SD card to try? Reformat the card with FAT32 and try again. The updates file structure should be two folders Firmware and Update and one file Cardinfo.cif and they should be in the Root directory - copied from "2013 USA-CANADA MAP UPDATE" folder on your computer.

  4. I ran the battery down on my iPhone 6+ to 65% and then attached it to the Z-130BT with the lightning cable to 30 pin adapter and it worked fine - no errors. While playing I disconnected the phone and reconnected it and it work fine. While checking out Aha Radio, Pandora and playing a movie from an SD card it charged the iPhone to 73%.

So I would recommend updating the firmware on the AVIC and use the latest IOS 8 version.

Specs for clarity: Z-130BT with firmware and software version of 5.000 upgraded using link I provided above and courtesy of misterwoofwoof.

    iPhone 6+ 128GB IOS 8.0.2

    AVIC cable is Pioneer D-IU51V

    Hope this helps. B)

  5. I've only had video work from an iPhone when it was my 3GS. It never has worked with the 5 or now the 6+. So go to this link and look for info on upgrading to 5.1. You will need 3 new cables/adapters and video will be in the AppRadio but then music will only play via another app. Check out the Pioneer website for the Z140 and look for firmware 5.1. Once you have followed the link above, and upgraded to 5.0, you can then do the 5.1 upgrade on a Z130BT. I have not done this because of the hassle of playing music through a sub par app, but maybe your ok with it? There is an 11 page PDF on the Pioneer site under the Z140 firmware link that will explain all the cables and downsides to this update.

  6. Umm, no it's up to 5.0 and for the Z140 it is 5.1 which has shown to work by others on this forum on the Z130BT. 5.1 is specifically for the iPhone with lightning cable but also allows AppRadio with the correct cables but requires an app to play music which is a big downside for me and I've stopped at 5.0.

Read the forum under Hacks/Mods and you will find a thread that is more than 14 pages so far about upgrading and includes the link to download 5.0 along with the modded file needed for a Z130BT. I'm not sure if it requires 4.0 or not to apply this firmware. Pioneer provides this upgrade through Navteq for some $$$, last year to 4.0 and this year to 5.0.

Warning: with 4.0 you will lose VR for navigation!!!!!

  7. Hi everyone,

I had an iPhone 4 when i installed my avic z130bt - worked great. I later upgraded to an iPhone 5 (64 GB) running on IOS 6, bought a 30 pin to lightning adaptor and works great again.

I recently bought an iPhone 6 (IOS 8 - 128 GB). I plugged it on to my receiver and got an error message! It posted "USB flash drive was disconnected for device protection. Do not connect this USB flash drive to the unit. To restart USB, restart the unit."

I looked up the operations manual and found that it can be one of two things:

    1. the cable is bad

    2. the connected usb storage device consumes more than 1A.

The cable isn't bad since the unit still works with my old iPhones. The plug that came with the iPhone mentions that it has a max capacity of 1A so i'm not sure if the issue could be more than what was specified in the manual (i.e. is it an iOS 8 issue, or the unit can't read Higher capacity storage devices greater than 64 gb (just like some sd card readers)?.

Does anybody here have a similar experience with an error message like this and would have a solution? If it's an amperage issue, is there a work around it? I've noticed on other forums in here that when they used their new iPhone 6 with the NEX units it works fine.

Thanks in advance for the help.

What firmware are you running on your Z130BT? I have the iPhone 6+ 128GB with IOS 8.0.2 with firmware 5.0 on the Z130BT and have not seen this issue yet. I will try and run the battery down and see what happens.

  8. Here's a video of what I'm talking about.  My Avic Z110BT has been upgraded to 5.1 and I can't get the horizontal scrolling icons to show up.  Can anyone else comment on this feature?

    http://youtu.be/PjmXkB_scAY

Thanks for your response rgarjr.  I tried and iPhone 4 with the CD-1U51v  30 pin cable and that worked great, I was able to get the App Mode screen.

The problem must be the Lightening pigtail adapter used for the iPhone 5.  When I hook up my iPhone 5 with the Lightening adapter cable, I can't get the

    App Mode screen.

Does anyone know if Pioneer has come up with a solution to this issue?

With the 5.1 update, there is an 11 page pdf that states on page 2 for AppRadio mode you will need the following cables: VGA/USB CD-IV202NAVI, Lightning to VGA Adapter from Apple, Lightning to USB cable CD-IU52. Then it goes onto to say: "You cannot play music and/or video files stored directly from your iPhone with Lightning connector using the VGA/USB interface cable for iPod/iPhone without using the CarMediaPlayer app.". And..."If you connect your iPhone with the Lightning connector to your navigation system using a USB interface cable for iPod (CD-IU5IV, sold seperately) and a Lightning to 30-pin Adapter  (Apple Inc. product, sold separately), you will have access to your music files, Pandora and Aha Radio on your iPhone with Lightning connector. AppRadio Mode is not supported when the iPhone with lightning connector is connected with this method."

My take on this is that if you buy the three cables needed and using the diagram on page 8 of this document connect your iPhone - you might get AppRadio mode. Why do I say might? Because Pioneer has a huge knack for promising things and then failing big time.

The other issue, as I quoted above is that music will then only be available through an app called CarMediaPlayer which is a 2 1/2 star rated app. - which in my opinion is 1/2 a star better than the Pioneer Z130BT

And then page 9 of this document shows you the hoops you need to jump through to get it setup.

  9. Thank you both for the info. I'm just not going to fall for the map update gimmick of paying $120 more towards this failed experiment. The maps and GPS system are garbage, Google maps are so much better - and FREE!

Pioneer never did support this product with updates for the numerous glitches it has, instead they expect us to pay another grand or more for yet another in dash system as we cross our fingers that this one is better. My choice when upgrading was to use this system, or build my own car PC. I'm sure there would have been problems with the car PC too, but at least I would personally know the tech and could fix it myself.

I've soured on Pioneer now, and they will not get another dime from me.

For the podcast, I have to re-encode it myself using Adobe Media Encoder to listen to  Leo Laporte or it will crash the Z130. So I now realize that when the audio sales guy was telling me how the other systems needed a reset button and the Pioneer didn't, that was not a plus, but rather a missing necessary feature. Shutting off my car is not the best option for a reset.

Sorry for the rant, but I really feel that spending over $1500 on a car stereo head unit should have meant that I was getting a top of the line system. On the plus side, I installed upgraded speakers and amps and they have always worked flawlessly - they are of course NOT Pioneer.

  10. Has anyone done the 2013 Map Update to the Z130BT and if so, how has it worked out for you? Any problems or quirks like the last update losing voice control of navigation? Do you use an iphone 5 with lightning adapter cable? Does it still work.

My Z130BT does have the 2012 map update, and I use an iPhone 5 with an apple 30 pin to lightning adapter. It works most of the time. Sometimes it will not connect and I have to unplug it or shut the car off and restart. Most of the time it is just an unplug and replug. But at least it works most of the time.

The other issue is that when playing a certain podcast(the Tech Guy Leo Laporte), it will lock the Z130BT up and I must shut the car off, disconnect the iPhone and close the podcast app on the iphone.

BT audio is also very finicky, sometimes it works but most of the time it won't. I was in a Nissan rental last October and the iPhone connected without issue to the stock cheap-as-they-come audio.

So, I'm a little hesitant to update and find out it will now lockup for some other weird reason.

So, any guinea pigs out there?

  11. I have an iPhone 5 with IOS 7.02 and the Z130BT with the map upgrade and BT upgraded Mine works with the Apple Lightning to 30 pin adapter cable. However, the BT is a different story.

What is not working, but does sometimes for some unknown reason, is BT music. The phone connects for calls, but the Pioneer says connection unavailable for music. But when it works, it still says connection unavailable but plays music and controls the iphone.

Recently I went on a trip and my iPhone connected without issue to the cheap head unit of my rental car, every time and without issues. My iPhone played music, worked very well with calls and gave me directions verbally from either Google maps or Apples maps. It was so nice, but now my vacation is over and while my HU, amps and speakers sound much better than the rental, that is only when it works - if it works.

I have come to the conclusion that either the Pioneer is junk, the iPhone is junk, or both are junk. I'm leaning towards the Pioneer as junk, and their financial problems attest to this, while Apples profits skyrocket. Even Apples maps are better than this piece of junks, and that's saying something.

I'm only trying the BT because my adapter cable was still packed. Tomorrow it will be back to the cable and the hopes it will still work. I have to cross my fingers with every update - maybe it is Apples fault after all.

  12. Ok, I resolved this issue. They use different album artwork on Saturday vs Sunday. Copying any Sunday artwork over to the Saturday podcast fixes it. I also noticed the encoding on Saturday says "multi transcode internet go" and Sunday is iTunes V7. I thought this was the issue until I re-encoded a crashing podcast and copied an artwork to it from a Saturday show using iTunes. It crashed, and that's when I noticed the different artwork. Now I will have to fix them every time I sync - but that's better than the freezing Z130BT.

    Now who to blame:

Pioneer or Leo Laporte's Tech Guy (artwork and/or encoder), or Apple ---> especially Steve Jobs!!!!

  13. I've been stepping through a bunch of troubleshooting steps to find the issue.

    Things I've done:

I downloaded episode 933 directly from the Tech Guy website. The hoops I had to jump through to get it on my iPhone have convinced me to go with an Android next time around. I had to shut off iTunes Match before it would let me sync this onto my iPhone. It would not see it as a podcast, and could not match it, so it refused to included it from playlists, albums etc.

But, in the end that also locked up the Z130.

I changed the Tag info with Mp3Tag, and that also locked up.

I re-encoded using Adobe Audition without changing anything, keeping all meta data. That too crashed the Z130.

I then re-encoded with Audition and excluded the meta data, that one worked. No freezing, but then also no data on the screen.

Next I must compare and even vs odd numbered shows and see what is the difference.

Any suggestions for a program on looking at the meta data? Will Mp3Tag do this?

Before I do that I am going to use iTunes to manually add back the info and album art and see if that works.

  14. So this problem started on podcast number 917 and has continued on every odd numbered podcast that I have listened to through 933. What happens is that it will begin to play for about 2-3 seconds, the meta data will not show up on the screen and the Z130BT with firmware upgrade to Z140BT will freeze. Nothing will work, not physical buttons, screen, or steering wheel controls. Disconnecting the iPhone will restore the functionality. Then I must manually delete that podcast from my iPhone 5 so the Z130 can't find that podcast and will either play the next one, or pick its favorite song from Van Halen.

I have yet to experiment with changing the number to even - I doubt that works, or downloading the podcast from a separate source than iCrapTunes and trying bluetooth.

    Specs:

    Z130BT ---> Z140BT

    iPhone 5 with iOS 6.1.4

    Pioneer stock cable

Apple Lightning to 30 Pin cable adapter

  15. Are you using the Pioneer cable with an adapter purchased from Apple? If so, reset your iPhone, mine works but has occasional hiccups now and then. Like currently my Z130BT locks up on any odd numbered podcast from the TechGuy and sometimes it just will not connect without my shutting the phone off and restarting. Sometimes, just closing all the apps works - even though thats suppose to be a list of recent apps and not actually running apps.

So if you have the correct cables, it should work.

  16. A few updates as I have been testing it out.

    Z130BT with map/software update to 140BT

I didn't mention App radio but did show a picture of the screen in my gallery. It does not work for me but I only have the AppRadio app and CarBrowser installed. Maybe I'm not using it right, so I will look into that more later.

Aha radio fails. I only tried it briefly with NPR and it played. But now it really just hangs and won't do anything. That is pretty normal even for the 3gs which I pretty much why I never use it.

When switching from Pandora back to ipod music, the player goes to the first song it has always decided to play when first connecting - an Ozzy Osbourne song No More Tears. It has always played that song with my 3GS and now 5 when first connecting. Steve must have liked that song :evil::twisted:

I was able to force the lightning dock adapter between the cracks of my Otter Defender case and that works for now while ditching my ProClip mount. I ordered the cable version of the lightning adapter which should fit this case fine and will move the iPhone to a dash cubby hole. Two to Three weeks for delivery, nice job Apple.

Hope a fix comes for the Aha and resetting of what I was listening to on the iphone.

I will update again if I find anymore issues.

I modified my previous post above, I've also discovered iCloud was not available while on the cable, only while on BT.

  17. I received my lightning to 30 pin adapters from Apple this morning, and they are not worth the money. After I connected the iPhone 5 to the adapter and Pioneer cable, my Z140BH went crazy playing a second or two of each song then changing to the next song, then the next song, over and over. I put the radio in app mode and tried the CarMediaPlay app, and it was doing the same thing, but extremely slow trying to change screens and freezing up. I finally put the radio in direct control from the phone and it worked letting me select my songs from the phone, but still hesitated occasionally. As we heard, no video out, only audio. After the wasted money on the adapters, my recommendation is to use Bluetooth. It works with no issues. Like I said, the adapters are a waste of money.

OK, the good news and bad news about the lightning adapter. For the above poster, it doesn't work, for me IT DOES WORK AND VERY WELL! OMG! I just did a few minutes of testing, and I actually went in and shut BT off as I was so surprised after reading the above post. It worked way better than my 3GS ever has. It was fast, had all my music even from iCloud, when I selected Pandora and Aha Radio (more testing shows Aha not working) from the iPhone it connected and fired up on the Z130. I have not done a thorough check of all Pandora and Aha functions, but they looked good in my two minute check. Songs skipped forward and back with my steering controls and radio controls.

So, it does have iPod out - it charges too.

Edit, does not include iCloud music on the cable, only with BT which I don't think works while on the cable.

P.S. I have done the map and BT upgrade to my Z130BT

    P.S.S. Album art works too!

P.S.S.S. I did have to remove my case for the connector to work with the iPhone. The cable version of the adapter might be better for this, but not with my ProClip dock.
