I currently have this same problem. I bent the adapter crimped to the mute wire as well. I am going to go back in and see if there is a wire I'm not using and use it in its place.

I installed my D3 yesterday. Everythings seems to be working ok, but I have no idea which wire is the reverse wire. I went into the trunk and took out the liner trying to get to the lights and I couldn't even figure out how one could get in there to change a bulb. I did however find a bundle of wires that disappear into that area that I am sure go to the lights. They are all different colors and I have no idea which one to tap. Anyone got a clue?
