  1. i have the boyo 400. its a complete license plate frame and is black metal. i absolutely love it and it has a great picture. ive had mine for over a year with zero problems. bought it online for around $100-120. oh and i mounted auxiliary backup lights on my trailer hitch ($35 from cabelas and you dont even have to drill a hole). at night in complete darkness i can see like it was bright daylight! like someone above said, i use it to pull right up to my trailers and then just drop onto the ball. works PERFECT and is worth the cost of my entire setup just for that feature. i use
  2. FYI - i bought my unit from crutchfield b/c i didnt want to risk buying one off ebay and not having a warranty. i called friday and explained what happened and they shipped out a new unit that day. we will see what happens with this one, but definitely great service on their part!
  3. my unit did this once last week but i turned the truck off and restarted and it worked. today it did it and i could never get it to work. tried resetting the unit, made several stops and turned the truck off for various periods of time (30 seconds to 3 hours). on the way home the a/c was blowing and inside of the truck was cool. also, today was cloudy and not that hot (80) and weve had much hotter days when my unit acted fine. i was PISSED about this and fixing to call crutchfield but thought i would check here first. definitely sounds like a problem with the units. btw, my unit is a
  4. i just put a z2 in my truck a couple weeks ago and debated the same. basically there are a lot of differences and reasons the z2 is better, its just none of them are huge deal breakers. my theory was that if im already spending all this money on a system to put in a truck that i will be keeping for a long time, why not just spend a little more and go all out. in the grand scheme of things $1000 aint a lot, especially on a $50k truck. the biggest issue for me was the HD. i dont want to be switching discs every time i want to look at the map for a second. thats a huge PITA. bigger scre
  5. it only worked for me for about 5 miles before i got the error. the wierd thing with mine is even when i hit the reset button, my status screen still shows "3d hybrid", it doesnt reset. i lose all presets and stuff, but the speed pulse is still a really high number (cut my VSS so its not incrementing any more though) and the status doesnt reset.
  6. installed the peripheral peswips steering wheel control inferface last night and it works like a charm 3 wires and a 30 second "programming", piece of cake. took longer to pull the dash apart. also tried the "backdoor fix" for watching dvds by switching the parking brake lead but it only worked for about 5 miles.
  7. got the dash kits and wiring harness from crutchfield. you can go online enter your vehicle and they will tell you the ones you need. finally got the steering controls adapter yesterday so hopefully i can install that this week.
  8. hi all. new here and found this place while i was researching what unit to get. lots of great info, thanks to everyone who contributes. one thing i found was there is not a lot of install pics (during install) so i figured i would help out anyone who is going to do an install. here is the final product: i went with a Boyo VTL-300 backup cam and love it. great picture, sturdy metal unit, $160 shipped, super easy install, works great at night (with the reverse lights i added you cant tell day from night), what else can i say. bought it from 'barneyselectronics' on ebay, they sh
