1. IIRC, you can DL the Gracenote on your home computer and then burn to CD and then pop in the AVIC and update the database that way, correct? Apart from the new maps and POIs, there doesn't seem to be a compelling reason to pay $250 for the disc. My unit works fine with the bypass circuit. The GPS sucks as everyone already knows, but it's functional and gets you there. I have no echo on my bluetooth and have not done any firmware updates at all. The old rule seems to apply: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Jay
2. That's what I needed to know. I'll do some more reading on these two topics and tackle this at some point. Where are most people purchsing the upgrade disc? Does this disc also update the Gracenote library or must this be done via Download and burn to a CD? Thanks Jay
3. Ok, it's been months since I've visited this site and lots has transpired since then. I've read through many posts but seems my particular situation predates most others, so here's the question. I have one of the first batch of Z1's built...bought about a year ago. DucatiBoy's bypass circuit installed, NO updates of any kind installed, XM module, Blue Tooth module, iPod module installed. NO echo, no issues what so ever....works perfect. My question is what advantage, if any, is there in this Z1 to Z2 upgrade? I'm not too keen on pulling this beast out of the dash to have to rewire
4. Damn, I figured you'd say something like that. Maybe I'll reset and repair the phone. Mine works great, no echo even without the cd fix....if I could just fix the dropping issue, it would be perfect. Jay
5. Ok, 03...how did you pair your phone and Z1? I have an 8525 and got it to pair, no problem, but the blue tooth will drop out after about 2 minutes into the call. It will then hook back up again after the call has ended...then will drop again. I got it to not drop a call one time but that was it. It's frustrating getting it to work only to have teh call drop out in the middle. When the BT drops, I can pick up the handset and the call is active on teh handset. This does not happen with my handsfree headset I use in my other car. Jay
6. I placed both the GPS and XM antenna right on top of the AVIC unit. GPS works fine, no issues at all. XM cuts out when I'm driving North, so I'm going to reposition this most likely on my roof. Got a big truck so I doubt anyone will notice it there. Jay
7. I stuck both the GPS and Xm antennas on top of the HU itself and then slid this into the dash. Both sit just under the dash, no metal in the way, clean shot through the glass. No issues at all, works great and no ant farm outside the car. Jay
8. I bought a camera from the same buyer, I got the 50ft infrared night vision one there on the far right. I mounted mine between the bumper and bottom of tail gait. It use clears when opening and closing the gate. I still have to hook it (and the other camera) into the AVIC but I'm hoping it works out for me. Jay
9. Keep the June unit. Get a Ducati circuit. I did and it was about as easy to wire up as it gets. Worked right out of the box, perfect, I've been watching Caddyshack ever since....only while parked of course. Jay
10. I have a 2001 HD I'm about ready to install my Z1 into (was originally going to install in my Z06 but plans changed....I'm going car computer in that one). My trucks opening is a 1.5 DIN so I've got a radio bracket and dash bezel coming in next week. I don't think I have the bose in my truck (don't think it was offered in the first year of these trucks) so I'll just use the AVIC's onboard amp for right now. Eventually I might go with a 5 channel surrond setup but for now we'll use the stock speakers. Jay
11. The other thing I'd like to know is does this digital out carry all the audio signals coming out of the Z1 (i.e. AM/FM/mp3/cd/dvd etc..) or does it only carry those that go to the 5.1 decoder...i.e. those from DVD's? Does anyone out there have the 5.1 decoder that can look at the plug in adapter that comes with it so we can get some more information? Jay
12. Thanks. Did you ever get a change to loof for the F55 connector? Reason I ask is that I purchased one of the rotary toggles switches that go into that little hole for the F55 option. I want to use it to toggle the butterfly valves in my Z06, but I poped it apart and it looks like it toggles the lighting instead so I'm not sure how the lighting in these cars works as I would like to back light the switch AND toggle the butterflies but they seem to be connected somehow and I'm not sure what's going on electrically Jay
13. It's basically a mini plug like you would use on a set of ear phones. The manual then shows it going into a converter box that looks like it converts it to a Tos-link connection. Funny I looked for this today. I was wondering if you could take this digital out and pipe it to an external D/A converter for better SQ or to Pioneers DEQ-9200 for EQ and Time alingment features. I found this site http://www.turboegt.com/Audio/Car%20Audio/Car%20Audio%20Main.htm the other night explaining how to add a Tos-link connector to basically any head unit. I think using this optical out on
14. And just because you've already done all the hard work, which wire is is? Jay
15. I did some more looking and it seems the mic is on the drivers side A pillar. I'd like to take a look at a car with the factory nav as mine doesn't really seem like there's a place for a mic. Wondering if the A pillars are a bit different for the factory nav vs. no nav. Jay
