  1. I emailed Pioneer: Inquiry:I am getting static (occasional and random pops and snaps. sometimes they seem to be more common when going under an overpass) when listening to my X940BT in my 2005 Mercedes C230. This only happens when listening to FM radio. It does not happen when listening to AM or CDs. I haven't tried other audio sources yet. I have only heard it while I'm driving. The installer used a Metra 40-EU10 antenna adapter. What can cause this and what can be done to fix this? Their reply: If possible, the installer can try an external antenna that does not require an adapter to se
  2. Yep, she's a little more chatty now. Still not as chatty as the Garmin, though. It's not necessarily a bad thing. When we got on I-95 to go to Florida, she said something like, "Go 478 miles to <some road in Jacksonville Beach>".
  3. Thanks VBLUE42 (again). Looking at the user's manual, it's not clear that the TTS voices have anything to do with Text To Speech, though it certainly seems to (given the letters T T S). The manual mainly talks about voice control which is a feature of the Z140BH. In fact the word "speech" is not mentioned in the manual and text is not used in relation to nav. I've set it for my car, but I haven't tried it yet. I'll see how it works. Thanks again for the tip!
  4. Maybe I'm clueless, but I can't find anything that implies a text to speech setting. When you touch "Settings" on the main screen, the options that would apply are "Navi Settings (Connection Status, 3D Calibration Status, Gas Mileage, Drive Log Settings, Demo Mode, Set Home, Modify Current Location, Eco Settings), System Settings (Regional Settings, Volume, Splash Screen, Back Camera, Screen Calibration, Ilumi Color, Service Information), Map Settings (Displayed Info, Quick Access Selection, Overlay POI, View Mode, Day/Night Display, AV Guide Mode, Road Color). The other options (AV Settings,
  5. mdman, could you be a little more specific? I wasn't able to find it on my system or in the documentation.
  6. I have a Mercedes C230. It has a short little antenna on the roof above the rear window - I think it's an amplified antenna. The adapter they installed looks like the Metra 40-EU10 (Amazon says it's for my car but Best Buy doesn't list my bar as application!). Are there any better options?
  7. 55 views and no ideas??!! Update: I took my car back to Best Buy where I found out that the reason the functions weren't available was because I didn't have my e-brake set (I have to do the by pass soon!). He also replaced my antenna adapter (since the static - really more of an asynchronous snapping/popping - only seems to happen on FM, not CD or AM, and also seems to only occur while I'm driving). That has had no effect.
  8. I just got my x940bt installed but I haven't bypassed it yet. I had it done at Best Buy. I know not the best place to have it done, but they did alright. I like it so far. One complaint I have is that there are some snaps and crackles when listening to FM (but not CD or AM. I haven't tried other sources yet). Best Buy replaced the antenna adapter but that didn't cure it. Another complaint is that the turn by turn directions do not mention the street names (usually - it seems to speak highway names). The street to turn on is on the screen only. Otherwise, I'm very happy with it. It's also cheap
  9. I've never had a 930, and I've only had my 940 for a few days and the only gripe I have is that the street name is not usually spoken when it gives me directions. The street name of the next turn is displayed on the screen only (unless I've missed some configuration setup for it). I guess I'm a little disappointed in the POIs. On the one hand while waiting parked in a mall lot, it didn't list the older Shell gas station (that I always go to) less than a block away, but on the other hand, it did list a slew of things I didn't realize were near by. I think you can add new POI so I'm not terribly
  10. Uh... You lost me. Are you sure you posted to the right forum? (So you're not confused and think I'm more daft than I really am, the post I was replying to was deleted - presumably because it had no relationship to the subject matter of the thread)
  11. I got my x940bt installed in my Mercedes C230 at the local Best Buy - I know, not the best place but I figured it was a straight forward install. I had them install an inexpensive rearview camera, the Metra Axxess steering wheel controls, and Scosche VW03B wire harness. Of course it's still not wired up completely as there are several functions that are not accessable (greyed out) and the steering wheel controls don't work. I believe at least part of the problem is with the green ground wire. When that was firmly attached, all the functions looked available. However, what is concerning
  12. I'm sorry. I'm still confused. I assume now that the x940bt is a second generation X series. So on post #11, are you saying that the first vid in my earlier post is the correct bypass?
  13. I guess the x940bt is a second gen X series? If so that still seem to leave the question about how to bypass the x940bt unanswered or did I miss it?
  14. Ok, I've always been a little intimidated by doing anything more than simple wiring and now I see different and conflicting methods of doing a bypass. The method on this forum for X series bypass: http://avic411.com/i...-series-bypass/ One method on youtube for the 930bt: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjUq0_hCDLQ And another more simple one for the 930bt: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syl14gmIfSA Can anybody verify which is the correct method? Thanks!
