  1. I didn't need any can bus converter for my 07 GTI. I know which one you're talking about, but the install, including the bypass, was done without any specialty converters. As far as your previous question about alpines, when you hear them side by side with Infinity reference series speakers, they sound a bit harsher to me personally. But I also have a friend who works in car audio who says the infinity's sound harsher to him. I would definitely go in and listen to the speakers, since sound is so subjective - or failing that, just look for the frequency range of both speakers. Keep in mind
  2. are you trying to be able to use the ipod through the headunit, or do you plan on scrolling on the ipod itself?
  3. Also, in reference to your issue about amp size, Alpine makes a nice 4-channel amp to run a set of 6.5" infinity component speakers (about 75 watts RMS per channel) that only measures 12x12 inches. It's pretty small and very efficient for a 4-channel amp, especially if you get the component Infinitys at best buy, which put out about 90 watts RMS. And check out the new Rockford Fosgate amps this year. They are ridiculously small for how much power they can push. You definitely pay extra for the quality and compact size, but it might be worth it to you. Great for pushing subs.
  4. I work at a Best Buy in the car audio section and I schedule these installs all the time. It sounds like you're getting ripped off on something that we could do for cheap, and offer a lifetime warranty free on the labor. Also, most installers at best buys (at least the one's I've known) are MECP certified... and as a side note, you don't have to tip them, cuz theyre not allowed to accept tips. Pioneer Avic D3 = $1200 installed (unit, labor, dash kit, harness) Pioneer Bluetooth = $270-300 installed (best buy sells the BT box online only for 200) Pioneer XM-Nav Traffic = $150 installed
  5. That's interesting. I wonder what specifically gets changed in the EQ and Balance settings then, b/c when you click on a staging setting, then check the EQ and bal/fader, they have not changed. Unless the D3 changes the levels without actually letting you know what levels have been changed. Hmmmm......
  6. Does anyone select the options in the "Staging" section of the sound menu (like music studio/dynamic theater/actor's stage/living room)? I have gotten the levels the way I want them in the EQ, but I have a friend who insists that the speakers sound way better with the staging off, and I say it sounds better usually with the "Dynamic Theater" setting. I know that sound is subjective, and I have my theories about why I like this better, but I'd like to get your input and find out whether or not I'm just crazy. p.s. the speakers in my car are component infinity's in the front, coaxial infin
