  1. Just an FYI. My East disc burned and updated fine. haven't checked to make sure all the features still work. re: some problems some people have reported. I'll be checking tomorrow. but the maps load and default wallpaper is different now. so far so good. I burned it on verbatim DL, pioneer 112D burner, using the mentioned layerbreak (I think this might be important) also, my burner auto-sets the booktype to DVD-ROM (not sure if this is important or not). so those having problems. might be either layer break, booktype and/or the brand of media. Thanks again.
  2. Just wanted to give a huge thanks!!! I'm so pleased to finally be able to grab these. currently d/l east disc at around 530kb/sec. 2 hours to go. also just wanted to confirm. These are the upgrade discs correct? and not the ones that were bundled with new units?

    clock setting

It also took me a while to figure this out when I first got my D3. The time zones are changed by using a +hour value in the nav settings area (can't remember the exact location off hand, sorry). The default unit time zone iirc is the set for west coast. So, you'll have to add "4 hours". That is, +4 in the clock/nav settings. -> the time displayed on the unit "should" be the same as it is in Vancouver before you change the settings. Also don't forget daylight savings, you'll have to add an extra hour. I'm hoping you'll be able to advance the clock by 5 hours. But my fear is that i
  4. At work as well. I'll see if I can find some time this afternoon to give a call. the day has been pretty thus far so it's unlikely. need to sell my D3 still. c'mon RFD.!!
  5. Interested in Ontario as well. are most people here in the GTA? maybe if we got a bunch together they could ship them out to us? -> that's an Ontario, California. store. not an Ontario, Canada store. just fyi. 909 is california.
  6. The posted US manual has reference to the SDHC logo at the back (copyright info etc). my guess would be typo for 8gb max. another downer... looks as though (again) the US model has fm radio RDS stripped from the unit (D3 was the same). The EU manual had details for RDS operation, no mention of it for our manual. you'd think something that was already in the unit would be easy enough to leave in.
  7. Just throwing out ideas. not sure if this is how it would even work or not. but as for the parking brake. does the parking brake provide a low current voltage when engaged? if the AVIC brake line was something that could be hooked up to say, a remote line.? to trick the unit into thinking it's engaged? I'm guessing that if there was a computer signal for the brake being active. A. it would be different from car to car. B. the unit wouldn't know how to read it. -> I re-read the previous post. interesting that it's shutting off after about 10mph. would it still do this
  8. many thanks for the link. should answer most questions. A+ for a QWERTY keyboard!!! best new feature! I'll miss the button press map<->AV source switch from the D3 though.
  9. Just wondering if there's been any word yet on the bypass for this unit. RE: if it's the same wire switch as the D3? I'd really hate to lose on the fly nav changes while driving. I know they have to do it, but it's so annoying that they forget that people don't always drive alone in a car. Many thanks for the awesome video and look at the new unit! Can't wait. Lets hope I can buy one and have it shipped to Toronto.
  10. I'm hoping that JasonH will have an answer on this soon. I'm going to be selling my D3 to upgrade, but not being able to bypass would likely stop me from selling. It's not just the video (which aside from being illegal, is REALLY dumb to be watching while driving -> unsafe), but being able to change destination and/or other nav related stuff while driving. Not everyone drives by themselves, and being able to have my girlfiriend do searches for stuff while I'm on the highway is def handy.
  11. thanks for the tip. makes sense... and I thankfully managed to find my spares. installing in the am tomorrow. it's going into a DPDT switch. On the car brake line side it will throw between nothing and the AVIC. the other side will throw between ground and the AVIC. I would assume then that flow for the diode will go from car to the AVIC correct? stopping the car from picking up an odd signal from the avic. yes? like so: car brake wire ---->|---- AVIC-D3 I hope so. that's how I'm wiring it in. haha I'll be taking pics. it's supposed to be sunny.
  12. def. I'll post up how I wired in the switch when I do the install next weekend.
  13. Thanks for the replies... Just have to see if I can trace the brake wire back to a wire bundle rather than trying to remove the whole center console. (Pontiac G6 in case anyone knows where it is) and yes, it's for one of those "just in case" situations. I don't anticipate I'll need it very often, if ever, but it would be nice to have. also, it's really easy to do during pre-install wiring.
  14. Hi, Just got my D3 and waiting for mounting parts to arrive. I saw the flash tutorial sticky for the bypass. simple enough (I was surprised). However. I'm interested in putting in a switch to disable/enable the bypass. A DPDT (double pole, double throw) switch will do nicely and is pretty easy to wire up... My only concern is flipping the switch on the fly (car running). I don't want to damage A. the D3 B. my car. anyone know what sortof effect this will have when powered on? Thanks. been browsing here a few days. great website.
