Pioneer freeze fix - update failed

Recommended Posts

I've had my AVIC Z2 installed for about three weeks now, the last two of which have been with Hyperite's two wire bypass.

Until this morning, everything has worked flawlessly. When the Z2 came on, it was stuck on the Pioneer screen for several minutes, though the XM was playing and I could control the volume. I pressed the reset button after about 10 minutes, and it came back up the same way. The CD would play but it never got past the Pioneer screen.

When I got back home I searched the forums here and decided to download the freeze fix. When I booted the CD, it went through the entire process, but at the end, it said "update failed" and restarted. Now when the unit comes on, it says "Starting Pioneer navigation system" or whatever, then go to "update starting", then immediately to "update failed, restarting", and it stays in this continuous loop.

I've tried resetting it, and resetting and holding map when it comes back up, and even re-burning the freeze fix and trying to boot from that, but nothing breaks the cycle of starting>failed>reboot.

I called Pioneer and the guy said to try it when it gets cooler. The car has been sitting in the driveway for two hours now, and it hasn't gotten about 60 degrees outside... can't imagine how much cooler it needs to be.

Alternatively, I can send it in to Pioneer for service, but I'd rather not do that because I don't want to uninstall/reinstall and be without my stereo for a week.

Any thoughts from the experts here?

EDIT: posted in the wrong forum, can a mod please move this to the Z series problems/troubleshooting forum? Thanks!

Yeah, I made sure to finalize and choose mode 1, per the Pioneer instructions.

I don't know what the hell happened, but after letting the car sit for about two or three hours, I came back and turned it on with the second CD that I burned and it worked on the first try. I fix was applied and my two wire bypass still works flawlessly.
