After searching "Buzz" OR Buzzing AND Z1, it seems that most people are getting engine noise, buzzing until music plays, buzzing with BT, buzzing from headlights, etc.

My Z1 started buzzing after I started messing with my RCA's on the amp (Arc Audio KAR 400.1). I ended up breaking a solder point for the amp's RCA input. If I pushed the RCA into the amps RCA input with some force, the buzzing went away. The solder point has been fixed, the amp passed all tech tests, and I still got a buzzing noise when I reinstalled it. Even if I push on the plug, the noise won't go away. The buzz is always on, and never stops...even if the AV mode is set to off, my headlights are off, and my car is in accessory mode or ignition On.

I ran my laptop to the 4ch monster RCA (XLN 304), played a song with media player, and the noise was gone. I ran an RCA from the Z1's front L&R RCA output to a portable stereo, and the buzzing was present. It sounds to me like the problem has been isolated to my Z1.

While searching, I saw a thread that said you can ground the RCA plugs. Wow, it worked! I ran some 18 gauge wire from one of the RCA's dangling from the back of the Z1, and the buzz went away.

My question is:

I know grounding the RCA fixed the problem, but what caused it? I have had my Z1 since July 2006, and have never run across this problem.

Thanks for your help.
