medbusiness
Hi guys...any help would be greatly appreciated. My custom installer is going to put an Avic-D3 in my 2007 Saab Aero Convertible which has factory XM...no Onstar. Wanted to know if and how to use the OEM "Shark-fin" antenna on my trunk with the new Avic-D3 and new XMNavTraffic unit...the installer tells me he does not know if this can be done...I hope it can. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
jtav2002
No, don't believe so. I'm getting mine installed in my '07 Impala SS this weekend. I was hoping to reuse the "sharkfin" too but from my understanding you cannot.
oachalon
I used the factory antenna on my saturn aura. Which i guarantee has the same shark fin antenna and plug as the saab (same platform) and the impala. All you do is unplug the antenna from factory xm take off the plastic connector and then i bought an extension cable because i had to run it farther and it fit better in the pioneer xm unit. SMB female to SMB male if i remember was the kind of cable i got.
impalacustom
Oachlon is right, I am installing the "sharkfin" on my Silverado which never came with XM. You can splice on a Fakra connector to the Pioneer 920xm unit's antenna if you don't want to buy more cable. I am going to cut and solder splice my connection and I am set.
