drmccollum
I'm about to pull the trigger on buying either a z2 or d3 with ipod, bt, PAC SWIP for steering wheel control and xm with traffic and I'm having a hard time making my choice. I hear that many people are not happy with the routing that the D3 model makes and was wondering if the Z2 has the same problems. Also, what's your opinion on which unit to buy for someone who will be using an iphone and the xm with traffic. I live in Atlanta and having a good navigation is a big plus. We had a big storm here this morning and it took me 2.5 hours to get half way to work before I turned around to go back home because of all the streets closed due to downed trees and powerlines. Thanks!
drmccollum
So no one has an opinion of which Nav works better?
dwhitley0381
I have both... I have a Z1 in my truck... and a D3 in the wifes car... ok this is the deal easy... Z1 is the Lincoln and D3 is the Ford... I like my Z1 better map seems to be cleaner. D3 does not have the same functions. Like the D3 because she chooses the color to match her buttoms... other then that Z1 is the high end of the two... Oh I use nav traffic on both and it shows free traffic better on the Z1... just more crisp image.
whtcrxghst
I have both. The Z is nice because its quicker, both in plotting routes and when I drag my finger accross the screen to look at the map. Plus it has more driver view modes. My D3 gives me exactly the same routes and works just as well, plus the ETA to my destination is always spot on, where the Z is always off. NavTraffic is the same on both If I were to buy again, I would probably buy two D3s. Cost difference is huge and I would rather have a nice ipod interface than the built-in HD for music storage
BigFloppy
I've got a Z in my car, the wife has a D3 in her car BOTH work equally well... given the choice of Z? or D3 think I'd go with a D3 (much better iPod interface) everything else is basically like for like
drmccollum
Thanks for the replies! I stopped by a local car audio store at lunch and the guy there told me that the z2 actually weights each road and intersection and will give you better routes. He also said it will learn based on your past route habits and that the d3 will always route the same no matter what. Was he BSing me?
drmccollum
Thanks for your help everyone. I finally decided that the Z2 wasn't worth the extra $500.00 is would cost me. I was able to get crutchfield to price match al-eds.com within $20.00. Total for the avic-d3x, xm with traffic and the pac swips was $995.00 Thanks again!
