Does that mean that the D3 you are using is the USA version?

DVD NAVIGATION EUROPE: DISC REPLACEMENT NAVIGATION APPLICATION DISC

Is that the European D3 update disk? Because there are no US upgrade disks and European disks do not work in the US units.

Well I'm not sure why it wouldn't let you use the disk it came with... Unless it locks you out if you are trying to use a disk that covers an area other than where the GPS signal tells you it is? Try unhooking the navigation antenna, do a system reset (with the power on, push the little pinhole button for a few seconds on the top right of the face), and start over without the nav antenna plugged in so the unit doesn't know where it is. It might not be the problem, but it's fairly easy worth a shot.

You say you burned the DVD... It's not an original copy of the disk? If it's something you downloaded and burned to a disk, how can you be certain it's the correct disk? If it's a copy of the disk you got with the D3, it could just be a bad burn, try burning another copy and see if the same thing happens, or use the original disk.
