sportsfan21
If I have a car adapter with a cigarette lighter plug on the end, how would I go about removing the plug and hardwiring it into my car?
tjdehya
You can simply cut the wire, find wich one is + and -. Run the + to any 12V souce of your car and run the - to ground. Depending on what you will be hooking up to that adapter you may want to run the + to a 12V source that is only on when the car is on.
VWPASSAT2.0T
When you look at the wires of the lighter there will be three wires two of them thick and one thin. the thin wire is for the little light that illuminated the lighter. you can tap into the thick wires and your good, if you have a mulit- meter you can check +/- Good luck
cntrylvr79
Before you go hacking off a cig plug, make sure the thing you want to hardwire runs on 12volts. I've seen plenty of times a person wanting to hardwire an xm or radar dector that runs on less than 12volts. Well lets just say they didn't work too long. You canget a raw cig lighter recpeticle and hardwire that then plug into it and there ya go. Not to mention gives you the option of removing it and still being able to use it with the cig plug.
