Hi i'm Anth0ny, been lurking here for a bit and have been wanting to get an avic z1, anyways..

I messaged the seller on eBay and explained to him about the july 06 avic z1's and he said it will work anyways because his bypass makes the Avic z1 think its not in motion...is this true?

Well, I'm not an expert (my Z1 is getting installed tomorrow morning) but from what I understand about the Pioneer design I don't see how it could work. The Z1, like all newer Pioneer units, uses a gyroscope internally to detect motion.

If you find out otherwise please let us know!

ufd108 is right, there are internal accelerometers which can sense motion and will re-lock the Z1. It will work for a little white, actually quite a while when the unit is first installed. The accelerometers need to be calibrated. His "bypass" cuts out 80% of the things that the Z1 uses to sense motion, but he can't disconnect the accelerometers.

Also when the switch is flipped, the position on the nav will remain constant and not move. But the unit will eventually figure out you are moving and bring back the lockouts. Those work kind of, but not great.
