AVIC-Z1 in a 2004 Hummer H2 with stock Bose amp and speakers

I've read so many pages here on the bypass methods on the Z1 I can't see straight. What I have not seen is any one attempting an install with bypass on an H2.

Any advice out there??

donno about the H2, i installed it on my H3, no problem at all. I got a July 06 unit, so the new bypass worked for me like a charm. The install was pretty straight forward and I am sure it will be the same on an H2. My h3 came stock with the Monsoon 6 disc indash changer with xm, and i still have full function of the subwoofer and amp. I actually like the sound better than stock. the z1 will be able to function with the bose, same as monsoon, kinda of.

Did you check the hummer forum, some H2ers must have already installed this in the truck, the H3 section is full of Z1 installs, if you need some help im sure someone there would be able to help you out. Theres some installers on there who could help you out with the H2.

The H2 illumination wire is almost always on, so I have used a normally closed momentary pushbutton switch to interrupt the illumination wire. It's cheap and usually works, but it's not automatic....or you can use a Peripheral PTR-7 with a VT-3, pain in the ass to wire and program, but it's automatic and always works.

The only thing I know about the H2's is that to get the radio out you have to take the center console out (at least this is what people tell me).

And it doesn't matter what vehicle it's installed into, the bypass is for the unit and will pretty much work in any car or truck.

There are 2 ways to bypass the Z1 and it depends on the date your Z1 was made.

June 06 and before you need to flash your headlights. When these were the only ones out there, I designed this circuit to do this automatically without programming (like the TR7 requires).

Then some time in July 06, Pioneer made a chance, they took out the ability to flash the headlights to bypass the unit and put in the ability to bypass the unit by grounding 2 wires (in the top link then scroll to the bottom of the page).

You need to figure out when your unit was made to get an idea, and then try one or both of these methods and see which one works for you.

Some say that they have July 06 units that still need flashing of the headlights, but most July 06 and newer units just need the 2 wires grounded. We aren't sure when exactly the cut off date (between flashing of the lights and grounding of the two wires), but June/July is pretty close.

Yeah, ducatiboy's bypass should work, as long as it is an early unit. Installing the Z1 in an H2 is a bit of a task, but not too bad. The bucket under the armrest comes out, the shifter surround snaps out (watch out for the retainer clips-they fly off), 4 10mm bolts under the bucket, 1 under the shifter bezel, 2 7mm screws at the front of the shifter opening, slide the console back, 2 allen keys at the top of the radio surround, unplug the 3(!) lighter sockets, yoke the radio out, chop some plastic behind the radio at the bottom of the opening............get a beer, install your Z1, reverse, another beer, done.

If it's an old unit, one of my circuits would work for you. If it's a newer one you can save your money and just ground 2 wires.

hi i installed ducati's circuit in my h2 and it works great.. i used the illumination wire going to the light for the shifter. in the center console.. works perfect everytime.! let me know if you have any questions on how to do it.

Wow - thanks for the hint on the illumination wire on the shifter - I thought I'd be stuck with an "always bright" screen in my 2003 H2.

BTW - I'm using a Post-July 06 unit with the grounded bypass flawlessly in a 2003 H2.
