defjux921
I was wondering if it's possible to record audio to the hdd from a burned CD? I ask because on page 112 of the manual I see this: Recording (or copying) to the music library is not possible from recording media (such as CD-Rs) in which a CD or other data is digitally stored. This is due to the Serial Copy Management System (SCMS) that was developed to prevent second-generation or serial copies. Does this mean I can't make myself a custom CD and have it recorded to the HDD? Also, I know MP3's can't be recorded to the HDD, but can they be played off of a DVD? Yes, I searched but couldn't find a good answer

If you burn them with cd-text, it will also automatically take the cd and track labels..
GnatGoSplat
As long as you burn your CD-Rs using a computer, you're fine. Computers don't respect SCMS. Standalone audio CD-R recorders, which I'm not even sure you can still get, will encode SCMS on the disc and those won't record to the HDD. They also needed special Audio CD-Rs and didn't use computer CD-Rs. I don't know anyone that uses those anymore, they were more common about a decade ago and looked like a standard audio CD player home deck, but with two trays. No, I don't believe MP3s can be played from a DVD.

CaptainInsaneO
You CAN make a music dvd disc and have it play, it just won't rip.
GnatGoSplat
You mean a DVD-Audio disc, not one with MP3's?
defjux921
i mean't a dvd with mp3's, not dvd-audio. it'd be nice to fill up a dvd with almost 5 gigs of mp3's to have lots more music...
GnatGoSplat
Yeah, I think CaptainInsaneO meant DVD-Audio though, because I'm pretty sure the Z3 doesn't play MP3s from DVD.
Nim
I don't think you can do either. DVD-Audio I have tried and could not be read. And MP3s wouldn't read off of a DVD-/+R either. Only CD-Rs. At least in my experience.
