Can you delay startup of Z1 till after engine start

I have a diesel that has to warm up glowplugs before starting engine. When I first turn the key switch on, I have to wait 10 to 20 Sec for the glowplugs to warm up prior to starting the engine. The z1 will start to boot up when I first turn on the switch, and then when I crank the engine, the z1 will shut off and then reboot. Is there a way to delay the startup of the z1 till after I acutally crank up the engine. I have the unit mounted in an H1 HUMMER with a 6.5 Turbo Diesel. The z1 is hooked up to the stock radio harness.

Not to be a smart ass, why would you care? So it boots up and then restarts, does it bother you that you hear music for 10 seconds before you crank the engine over? It doesn't hurt anthing. Most of us deal with this same thing, just not to the same extreeme since I think most peoeple turn the key on, wait a second or 2 and then crank the engine. We still get a partial boot up, just don't hear any sound.

I was just concerened whether booting and then rebooting the unit within 30 to 40 seconds EVERYTIME the car starts would damage the unit over the long run.

No, I highly doubt it would hurt anything. It's meant to turn on and off. And actually when it senses the power is shut off, it actually goes through a shut down procedure. I honestly don't think so many boot up and shut down procedures will hurt it in the least.

You could use a timed relay to interrupt the ign. lead for 20 seconds or so, but then you are faced with no music for 30 seconds, hopefully you're not impatient. You could also use a relay triggered by the gloplug light signal.

That would be cool and not that difficult to implement! But like Steve said, it won't hurt anything like it is. Just annoying.

Just did that on my buddy's GMC Duramax, very high on the cool factor chart.

On my 03 Silverado HD Duramax I can turn the key on and the Z1 starts booting up, and stays on booting even when cranking. It has never flashed off or anything like that. Interesting...

There's another option for you. Instead of hooking the red wire from the avic up to the red wire in the wire harness, you can run a lead directly from the ignition to the avic. Tie into the pink wire at the ignition. Just make sure you fuse the lead you run. Then when you actually crank the engine the avic won't turn off since the pink wire doesn't lose voltage.

That may work most of the time, as long as the voltage in the ignition line doesn't drop enough to reset the acc. turn-on in the Z1. Also, you will lose the RAP function in the vehicle.

That's true, though with a couple relays and a diode you could regain the rap function. But that's another can of worms.....
