cjean
Hi all, Is this function really effective? Can it be by-passed easily by thief? Does Pioneer keeps track of registered unit and will not unlock unit without a proof of purchase? Is a firmware update will erase the password? I plan to purchase an F700BT and I'm little scared. I heard that double DIN unit were not very popular because they were too long to stole, is that thru? Thank you, Charles

Thank you, Charles 1.The function is effective if you have a knowledgeable thief that's aware of the anti-theft device and decides not steal your unit because of the problems he will face.If not then the thief will still steal it but can't use it.Then he will sale it to someone on E-bay and they will be stuck. 2.The unit can be by-passed but not easily and very few know how. 3.True,If you register your unit they will not unlock it without proof. 4.No, firmware update will not erase the password. 5.Anything the thief can see and want,can/will be stolen.Get a good Alarm!! Julius
i have 96 accord i was jus wondering if there is a special cover for the f series... does anybody know anything about this? There's not a cover to buy to hide the F series but people make there on face plate from old OEM stereo faces to hide their Nav systems and some look quite real.I'll look around and see if I can find a thread. Here's one of the many fake face plates: http://avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php? ... highlight=

Well I had a discussion with Pioneer rep this week. I don't know If he knows his stuff but the nature of his answers was telling me that he was completly ingnorant... He told me that a simple RESET erases the password protection??????? Did you tested the password protection your self to come with the above statement? I don't see anything in the manual. Thanks, Charles
Julius
What sense does it make to have a password when you can defeat it by pressing reset? That's why I said you can't listen to the service reps. This is out the Pioneer Manual: Setting the anti-theft function You can set a password for the navigation system. If the back-up lead is cut or RESET button is pressed after the password is set, the navigation system prompts for the password at the time of next boot up. Setting the password 1 With the map displayed, press MENU button. 2 Touch [settings] on the “Top Menuâ€. 3 Touch Area1, followed by Area2, and then touch and hold Area3. Area1 Area2 Area3 4 Touch [set Password]. The password setting screen appears. 5 Enter the password you want to set. p Five to sixteen characters can be entered for a password. 6 Touch [Done]. 7 Reenter the password to confirm the setting. 8 Touch [Done]. Password-protecting is completed. p If you want to change the password currently set, enter the current password and then enter the new one. Entering the password On the password input screen, you must enter the current password. If you enter the incorrect password three times, the screen is locked and operations with using touch panel keys cannot be performed. 1 Enter the password. 2 Touch [Done]. The message “Antitheft is being unlocked. Do not switch off during the process.†appears if you can enter the correct password and the navigation system will be unlocked. Deleting the password The current password can be deleted. 1 With the map displayed, press MENU button. 2 Touch [settings] on the “Top Menuâ€. 3 Touch Area1, followed by Area2, and then touch and hold Area3. 4 Touch [Clear password]. The password setting screen appears. 5 Enter the current password. 6 Touch [Done]. 7 Touch [Yes]. The message for deletion appears and then the current password is deleted. lasrx
The password protection will stop a casual thief but is in no way bullet proof. I'm glad no one has posted the step by step to resetting the password. I've done it and it doesn't take any Pioneer secret knowledge to complete.
