Hunterj
I am brand new to this forum and am looking for some opinions. I have been using an n2 since June 2005 in my truck for business and am completly addicted to it. I do not even carry back up maps anymore. When I bought it from Circuit City I opted for the extended warranty which turned out to be a great idea as on New Years Day the n2 went belly up. Nothing worked, no flip out screen, radio, nothing. The good news is CC is going to replace it with an n5 with nothing additional out of my pocket. My dilema is they said I could have a z3 for an additional $300.00. Part of the added cost is to go to modifying the dash as it would be going into a 2001 Ford F150 which I guess has an opening not quite 2 din high. So is the z3 $300.00 better than the n5? I am of course completly familiar with the N series but have only played around for a few minutes with the Z in a store. Thoughts?
gfisher99
I would take the Z3 over the N5. Mostly because the nav data is on the hard drive instead of a DVD. Its faster, and you dont have to worry about those nav DVDs evr again. Also, its pretty easy to upgrade the Z Series when new software comes out. Lastly, I beleive you will like the large, sturdy screen on the Z Series. If you dont mind them doing custom things to your dash, I think the Z is the way to go. supermixer
Yes definitly go with the z3 if you can. i have a z1 upgraded to a z3 and it rocks. btw - may i ask which circuit city you are dealing with? i have a similar situtation that i'm in right now but with mine ihave sent my unit in for repair which they cannot fix . i've asked CC to search which store still carries the z series and want my local circuit city to know which store still has it. you are welcome to private msg me if you'd like ... thanks Jamie
04mach1
I do not know that cc had the z3's. I wish my cc had them !!!!
supermixer
well according to their website, they dont carry the z series. (best buy does on their website) .. I'm real curious to know if any of their stores across the US carries it. You would think they would along with the F series.
04mach1
It would be nice to know if cc can get them.
supermixer
i spoke to a rep at cc corporate today. according to them, they wont carry it because its now older technology and are only carrying the F series. i guess you could probably hook up an external dvd player to the z1 and play dvd's that way. not sure how u would do that though. maybe use the aux or any of the other free inputs the unit has available
Hunterj
I wasn't able to check in until just now. The CC does not carry the z3 or the n5. As I understand it the car audio installation manager at mine somehow got authorized to buy them elseware in order to honor the warranty. I don't know any more of the details but will share anything new I find out. Don't want to rock the boat until I have the new one installed. I decided the z3 at this point is not an option as I misunderstood that the $300.00 I would have to pay to upgrade to it included installation. It doesn't, they want another $150.00 to install. I can't pony that up so will go with the n5. Thanks for the feedback.
