Emergency Brake By-Pass For Pioneer AVIC-Z1

Here are the steps:

1. Make sure your system is “properly” installed (from a wiring aspect, dimmer wire connected to the headlights)

2. Make sure your emergency brake is in the “off” position

3. Your radio must be in an operational mode other than DVD (i.e., XM, SIRIS or radio) when you start the car. If the DVD player is in the operation mode, the unit will engage and the bypass will not work

4. When the Z1 is starting, flick the lights on and off 3 times before the unit becomes operational (prior to audio playing through the Z1); otherwise, the bypass won’t work.

5. Afterwards, check the navigational menus to verify all commands are operational. That’s it. Happy DVD’ing!

Emergency Brake By-Pass For Pioneer AVIC-N3
Here are the steps:

Note: The AVIC-N3 is just a toggle switch in back of the head-unit hidden beneath a silver “void warranty” sticker

1. Pull the sticker back and slide the toggle switch over

2. Ground the light green parking brake wire (ground to the car chassis or the black ground wire for the radio system)

Note: Obviously, the warranty will be voided on the AVIC-N3 (as soldering the two pins on the AVIC- N2)

3. Afterwards, check the navigational menus to verify all commands are operational. That’s it. Happy DVD’ing!

Couple things, #3, is not necessary, it will happen no matter what it's set to.

#4, technically all you need is one change from light off to lights on or lights on to lights off that occurs between 5 and 7.5 seconds after you turn the car on. The screen will say "Starting pioneer navigation" around this time. You can flash your lights 3 times, but it's unnecessary. All you need to do it turn them on at the right time, or start the car and turn the lights on immediately, then when the screen says "Starting pioneer navigation" turn them off.

I also sell a little circuit to install which will do this automatically:
